NBA 2K9 & NBA Live 2009 Official Thread

Lots of big announcements recently though. I like the idea of the "living rosters"

Check out this link for anyone that hasn't read the new info yet - NBA 2K9 Updated Hands-On: Living Rosters and Association 2.0 - Xbox 360 News at GameSpot

I was just reading about the Living Rosters!

I was amazed at this:

2K have employed someone full time, a real person, to keep track of the NBA over the course of the season and continually adjust the game to reflect the real life happenings. So say OJ Mayo turns out to be a disaster in the NBA, his ratings will take a tumble, and going even further, he may even lose his flashy dribble package or move specific animations he started with. On the other end of this spectrum is players who perform well may have their packages improved or if they develop a killer new move during the course of the season, it will be added into the game.

Obviously this won't work for the offline gamers, but those that are online, wow, what a feature!

Guess what ... just for a change (large hint of sarcasm), they're delayed ... latest release dates:

NBA 2K9: 17th October (reference: dstore Australia)
NBA Live 2009: 9th October (same reference)

Both referring to Xbox360.

Nooooooooooooo...... I so need to play this new release. 2K8 just doesnt cut it now (well it does, but you know what I mean).

Thanks for the update!

Ah, at least it's earlier...

Isnt Live usually out first?

I think it was last year, as I tried it, and it sucked, so I swapped it.

Awesome! Thanks for letting us know, Scotty. I will be downloading shortly, too!! :D

Offical release dates for X360 versions remain:

Live - This Thursday
2K9 - This Friday

I know ... I need a life!!! Hey ... I'm working 7 days a week at the moment - gotta have something to do once the wife goes to sleep!

Well, I downloaded the demo last night (of 2K9) and I must say that I am somewhat disappointed! It plays very similar to last year's effort. Certainly, some bits and pieces have been tweeked, but I really don't think they've made great strides.

The graphics were only slightly improved, which is a real shock considering they've had two-three years now to fully realise the hardward capabilities of the X360 and PS3. We can only hope the "Franchise" settings are a substantial upgrade on last year (which it looks like they will be).

I'm now starting to lean towards Live 2009 again.

Anyone else's thoughts?

I think we'll see a delay on the release date as usual but since 2007 2K sports has always been my preference. Here's some screenshots for those that haven't seen. Looks alright to me.

Thanks for the screen shots!!

Played it the other day (Demo), and yeah, was slightly disappointed. That was until I remembered I was playing a Demo. Graphics and playability will be improved with the full game.

I couldnt find the alley-oop tho??? Maybe it's just because it was a demo?

I doubt I'll be looking at Live this year, 2K fan 4 life...

Oh, and I need to get a life too!! ;)

Grabbed a copy of Live 09 yesterday and had a quick play last night. Thought the game plays was great, however somewhat disappointed with the Franchise setting. Navigating through the menus is very slow ... almost like the controller is not responsive! Kinda weird.

I decided I'd buy both, work out which one I like best and flog the other at a $20-$30 loss ... no big deal. Sign on a hardcore console bball game player! :)

the Aussie team on NBA Live has the right names (not the olympic team, but right names of the players they have in the line up), but besides Bogut the player faces dont really look like em.

There is Bogut, Neilson, Anderson, Saville, Helliwell, Mills, Luke Schenscher, Andrew Ogilvey, Jason Smith, Sam Mackinnon, Newley, Worthington

I bought NBA 2K9 on 360 two days ago, and it is AWESOME! Surpasses 2K8! Graphics are awesome, the highlight reels at the end of each quarter is impressive. If I have ANY criticism, it's that the new commentator, Clark Kellogg, talks too much when he is on. And it has a new online feature that updates your rosters for you straight from the NBA. So if there is a trade or signing/releasing in the NBA, it will be reflected in your game!

Noice! Well worth the money!

just bought NBA2K9 (on PS3) in my lunch break just before - i went home and played a small match...looks very good, very happy with it. the crowds make the game exciting to play

Picked it up earlier & It is very impressive, the fact that Patrick Ewing is finally in the game for the first time in the series is music to my ears but even better is the fact that you can release legend players into the free agency & then assign them to their teams. New prospects/rookies can be edited to meet your needs.

The stats & tracking is more in depth with awards history & Game high performances. The live rosters makes this game a winner hands down and there is already an update available with the rosters on XBOX LIVE. Graphics & the addition of real footage is amazing. I'll be creating some classic New York rosters from the 80's & 90's, Knicks 2008/09 Championship here we come.

I also picked up 2K9 (got mine today). Been working my arse off outside in the garden, and guess what time it is...

2K9 TIME!!!!

Be back later with a report, if I havent fallen asleep....
