Beckett Grading ruined my card!!!!!!!

if theres video on every card they receive, they should be able to prove it was damaged when they received it shouldnt they?

Me: Hi Jeromy, one part of your statement I don't like - "The only people that actually know what to look for on cards is our graders" - according to Matt the crease is fairly obvious and one that he "definitely would have noticed".
At the very least, as a gesture of goodwill, would Beckett be willing to refund the cost of grading..? Matt is going about filing an insurance claim but I still have to pay him back for grading that we would not have proceeded with had the card been in that condition when initially received.

Beckett: I am not sure why this statement bothers you. The people that know what to look for on cards is graders. Their job is to grade cards and that is what they did. They saw a flaw on your card and downgraded it. They noticed the damage and marked the grade accordingly. The rest of our staff does not examine flaws on the card. That is the graders job. I stand by that statement.

I am sorry but I can’t refund the grading fee because we graded the card and shipped it back to you. The damage issue aside on this. We provided the service you requested. Where the damage took place is another issue and refunding the grading fees simply can’t be done. I am sorry.

Basically "we are a big company and don't give a toss about you and your stupid complaint, so bugger off"

That's pretty bad PR right there. I think you are asking very little in asking for the grading fee to be refunded, but they seem to care so much about their measly few dollars to grade the card that they would rather keep it than try and appease one of their unhappy customers after initially denying that they damaged the card in the first place.

Yep, exactly. While they can't be proven to be at fault, so they're not obliged to refund, it would be good PR/goodwill for them to have done so (it was only like $26) but they have chosen to just ignore it. There is no way in hell I would ever send anything to Beckett for grading now.

What a load of rubbish that is. Im getting cranky just reading this. They might as well have sent this back-

Dear Mr Hairy - Go f*ck yourself. Thanks, Beckett's

I don't like one word that guy has to say in reply, pisses me off so bad. Big time douchebaggery right here.
And I still can't get over the fact they would grade a card in that condition and not contact first to make sure you that's how you sent it in. Unbelievable.

whats this guys position at beckett? take it higher. he might be covering his own ass too.

i say try and get an email address for Mark Anderson...apparently Director of Grading and Authentication.

dont roll over hairy!

I agree, I always take stuff higher up, currently I'm writing a letter to the manager of a bank who owe me money on a lost transaction. They found it but haven't returned it, 3 months later

Also had to write to a higher up at Telstra once after receiving a $500 bill for charges I wasn't supposed to be charged. The lower level Managers weren't helpful & usually aren't great at managing pissed off customers, they seem better at managing operations. From my experience the higher up you go the less they want to worry about it and they swiftly dealt with it.

Make it strong, professional and go as high as you can, they seem to listen then.

As discouraging as this whole thing has been you need to keep fighting this G and like others have said you need to take it higher.
They can easily give a refund without worrying about it being an admission of guilt by using suitable wording.
Carl don't get me started about Telstra. To cut a long story short they nended uo paying my Mum $1000 in compensation for cutting off her phone the day of my Dad's funeral, All we did was ask that it be transferred into her name after dad passed away and they went and cut it off,

wow what a pisser of a thread to fire me up for the day! As has been stated by many on here, why didnt they contact you when they saw the massive crease? yeh like we all want to pay to get our 2.5 cards graded!! this brings me to another point, regardless of `who` damaged the card, i would like to know `how`. I mean i have 1000s of cards around the house and even when sifting through commons or sets that i dont give a hoot about i still have never managed to damage any of my cards!! So it mystifies me as to how its been damaged, all i know is someone isnt being 100% honest with you. I dont know whos to blame but its definetly put me off ever sending them anything!! the only graded becket cards i have were like it when i bought them! is PSA in australia or overseas? Hope this gets sorted for you mate dont let up on it though!!!

Whats the pop report on the Wilt retro's?
I've always wondered if the graders themselves had certain cards in their own personal collections with low pops if they'd do things to purposely keep the value in their cards. Wouldn't put it past them.
Think about it a pop 1 9.5 Wilt would be a huge premium, now if a 2nd one were to be graded 9.5 the value drops significantly so a subtle bend and presto still only 1 pop 1 9.5

Problem with fighting it is that I don't really have a case... I never saw or held the card, I trust Matt that it was fine but we don't have any evidence that it was as we didn't photograph it. Plus they're saying he might have damaged it when packing (which is BS as he knew this was valuable and was very careful). They've got me by the balls on this one.

There are about 19 BGS 9s and 21 BGS 9.5s. No 10s (this wouldn't have gotten anyway) and one 4.... :(

"refunding the grading fees simply can’t be done"

Well it can be done - it is called a REFUND.

This is a disgrace - the more I read the worse this gets. For you to be knocked back a miserable refund for the grading is just horrendous customer service. Mate you totallly need to take this higher, you are wasting your time corresponding with this Jeromy peanut. He has a manager he reports to, and so would the clown above him, so take it to the top. I am flabbergasted they are going so far out of their way NOT to give you one cent in compensation - can't even refund the grading! Unbelievable.

Don't throw in the towel mate - keep on pushing. This is just plain wrong.

Just keep keep going higher up the tree and peppering people with emails. I would even attach the link to this forum post. At some stage you would think someone will throw some money at you. Do let these *****s get away with it.

Yeah I think with persistence and enough emails eventually you'll hit the right person as you climb the managerial ladder who'll say "shut this guy up" or less probable but possible "what the hell is going on here, somebody fix this" :D

**** this has been on my mind for the last 24 hours. just cant beleive the hole Beckett is digging themselves. do they realize how many people are on, or view these forums?! if they have stuffed you around on a Wilt Auto card what hope is there for the rest of us! i saved and enlarged and played around with the ebay photo of the Wilt card and whilst its not the best pic it certainly isnt the worst and my eagle eyes and editing couldnt find anything wrong! i would simply use that pic as proof that it was fine beforehand! to me you have a clear case, they didnt even contact you to ask whether to grade it with the crease its just so frustrating. youve already used a lot more patients and calm than i would in the same situation!!

Unfortunately they have a pretty good argument - SBF handled and packaged the card, so it didn't go directly from seller to Beckett and it was 'likely' (though they're "not saying that's the case") that he damaged it while packing - which is just not true. And also because we can't prove that they damaged it they win.
