Beckett Grading ruined my card!!!!!!!

And there's the card ....

And people wonder why I can't recommend BGS ever!!!

Very sorry to hear that Graeme.
I really don't see you getting anywhere with the claim on getting them to admit liability ... but best of luck.
Professional grading service, they should be bloody ashamed of themselves.

I remember years ago (gee I'm starting to sound old!!) Chad had a rare Larry Bird Courtside Auto card bent by BGS....can't remember what the outcome was though.
Yup, absolutely the same thing. I can confirm that Chad's card was mint before sending it to BGS and that he received SFA for their carelessness. From memory, a big collector on HK found another Bird courtside and sent it to Chad free...an amazing gesture (edit - just read G's link and the story of the 'replacement' card is discussed). Because of that, I have never and would never look at slabbing any of my collection.

I feel sick that they would treat such an iconic card like that...I really do feel your pain...

Matt thinks, based on the crease and how he packaged, that it's likely from them taking the tape off when unpacking the card - so they wouldn't have known what card it was - but the fact is that we followed their instructions (both of us wanted a hard case or something) and we've been fukked... :(

I can not see how a regular top loader is not better then those flimsy junk top loaders except to cut them open for the card.

Get on them mate, that is some serious $$$$ laid out for a great card. Best of luck to you!

Sorry to hear hairy and now very ANGRY fella...Beckett Grading Services | Submission Form I can't believe that they think this method is the best method to ship. Crazy.

Oh true. Will be interested in seeing the pics after being graded. I've personally had about 40 cards graded by bgs who send an email of grades given before sending cards back and had no problem but human error can happen and if the grading company did damage It and not admit fault that is shameful.

How do you normally package your cards when you send them to BGS?

Oh so brutal. When I saw that I had to laugh. Not because It's funny - but because Beckett have the nerve to damage the card, grade it a 2.5 then send it back to the owner. Absolutely deplorable!

I'm only new to the site but I have noticed that you have copped a few low blows recently. Hope you get some justice from this and some kind of compensation mate. Pretty amazing how things like this happen when all the precautions have been taken, so wrong. :yellow:
Puts some of the everyday poor dealings we have in perspective.

Thanks mate - I'm feeling pretty down - I try to be a good guy and help people and I just keep getting rooted. I'm tempted to just give it all up to avoid any more heartbreak...

Yeah, I couldnt imagine how your feeling mate :( I have never plonked that sort of cash down for a hobby (well 6K on speakers doesnt count does it lol :)) so i hope you get this sorted. I hope BGS come to the party in some way, you should be demanding a certain number of free gradings.

They can get stuffed... this was the first thing I've ever sent for grading, and it will be the last... even if they're free

Far out - what a complete load of BS.

Its an awesome card Graeme. That totally sucks what happened.

From the BGS Operations Manager:

Thank you for the email and submission. It is our policy that if a card is damaged while in the possession of BGS, to immediately contact the customer. Our staff is encouraged to bring stuff to management if they damage an item. We have damaged several cards over the many years in business, some of which were several thousand dollars in value, and each time, we have stepped up and admitted that to the customer. We would not be in business long if we were not honest with our customers.

In your situation, I show no record that the card was mishandled by anyone here at Beckett. If the package would have arrived damaged, we would have let you know so that you could file a claim with the post office but there didn’t appear to be any damage there. We have seen some damage to pieces though without a damaged package. We don’t keep record of how a card is packaged. From all the information I have, it shows the card arrived, was graded, and shipped back in the same condition. I simply have no proof that any damage took place while in our possession.

I am very sorry if there is damage to the card but without any proof, I simply can’t compensate you for this damage. You have to understand that without proof, how can we know you didn’t send the card to us with damage or that the shipping company didn’t damage the piece. I am not saying either of these happened but it is something we have to look at. Without proof that our guys mishandled your card, there is simply not anything I can do. If you have any other questions or comments, please let me know.

Extremely valuable lesson - scan everything before you send it to be graded!!!!!!!

That's crap! Even if you scan it before you send, how will that prove that they damaged it? They will easily claimit was the post office. Sorry about the outcome. Hope insurance pays out enough and don't take too long. Lets hope you canpick another nice auto up, but dont get it graded this time!!!!
