ESP NRL Traders 2014 Thread - Checklist Added (Pg 18)!!!

My 2.5c for what it is worth...

I only got back into collecting NRL cards in 2010 after a ten year absence and in hindsight that 2010 Champions was the worst set ever made. Dull, repetitive inserts, boring commons and parallels. 2011 Champions would not have been much better apart from the Star signature series which saved that set. If you look at the 2011 Champions there were only 7 guaranteed hits per box the same as Traders although I will conceed that the low level inserts were slightly better but still very tired with 2 sets of rookie inserts which doubled up players and also had players with a few games who never played again! I can recall a poll toward the ned of 2011 on the Select website asking if Star Sigs should be in the 2012 release and the response was over 98% in favour. The 2012 Champions were a great release IMO but lacked the killer punch that a continuation of star sigs would have brought so Select obviously didn't listen to their customers.

2011 Strike was okay, really only saved IMO by some good quality TP's. 2012 Dynasty was awesome and will take some beating and for me you can't go past 2008 Centenary as the best NRL set ever released. I would bust a box of Centenary or Dynasty over any other Select or ESP product anytime ATM.

In saying all this I liked Elite and aside from all the obvious teething issues which have been done to death on this forum I think ESP are moving in the right direction. It would appear they must have listened to some extent as each series seems to improve and I like the fact that Elite were readily available in newsagents. Overall I am really looking forward to 2014 Traders and see what ESP can bring to the table. I love busting packets / boxes and I am glad to have something to open!

I thought things were looking up like you said brendan with elite and each release getting better and then limited 2013 happen whereby you had to buy a case of 2012 to get your hands one 2013. Wouldve been a great joke / prank only they werent joking

I haven't seen the 2013 LE in hand so can't comment on the actual cards but you are right the way the release was structured was poor and made it near impossible for your average collector to obtain a set or at the least individual cards for their PC. I believe ESP thought that by cutting back the production of this set and making the release boxed as opposed to over priced packets it would sell quickly. It may very well have if they didn't tie it on with the 2012 LE. I will however applaud the NRL mega pack concept. This was not only a great deal for collectors but a very viable way to get rid of excess stock as opposed to tying it up with the 2012 LE or flooding the market with discounted packets and boxes.

Will agree with you here Girds. Ikon had a lot to do with it though. But it was still ridiculous.

2013 Ltd have been available on the net for months...

- How exactly are they "near impossible" to collect???
I've personally bought 4 sets of them and not bought 1 case of 2012!!

I was referring to the initial purchase of the set from Ikon where you are required to purchase the case of 2012 LE. For a collector on a budget the prices on eBay for the individual sets or sigs are a bit out of reach. Prices on OZCT are somewhat better but again I am not keen to pay overs for an RR sig.

Not yet, but all's people seem to be doing is complaining about this and that. Getting really boring. Collectors should just be greatful that we even have NRL cards to collect.
We do tend to go round in circles a little. I know esp read these threads so any feedback, positive or negative, can only help them and us in the long run

thats the thing though talking about being grateful for things to collect, so many people have sold up because a loss of interest in what esp have produced and how they have handled things.

I really cant see why collectors have sold up over a few average releases and how ESP conduct their business? Seems a pretty weak excuse and just toy throwing.

Surely you would want to give ESP more of a chance, since they are new to NRL. Its a pretty drastic thing to do selling a past collection over something that is really minor in comparison, those same collectors would be kicking themselves if ESP improve out of sight this year or next. Imagine if the next major release is much better than Elite, on the same level as Elite was so much better than Traders lol.

I sure as hell would not sell up over something so petty, I'm just happy to collect decent cards which IMO ESP produce.

Wake Up!!
Esp have had one year in NRL cards... Nobody sold up after 2010, Now there was a rubbish year!!
People are selling up because they're over it... Not because the don't like ESP.
Anything else is nothing but a cop out!!

- Not liking the new stuff has absolutely nothing to do with appreciating the stuff you already have!!
