COMC Mailbox Thread

Ok guys,

Here's some information regarding redemptions and your mailbox service. I emailed comc directly and got an answer.

It was a pretty long winded email so ill make this brief.

If you have redemptions sent to your mailbox, comc will now give you an option of having them redeemed if you wish otherwise they will be placed into your mailbox and shipped to you just like every other card.

I hope this clears it up for some people.

I believe its $3.00 for the stuff listed on their site, but I've heard of people processing 20 - 30 cards and only having to pay about $5 for postage. I'll know next week once my mailbox gets processed haha.

Ok so just to clear it up.
It's not $5 per month for the mailbox.
It's a minimum of $5 when you ask for your cards to be processed into your comc account . This can be done 1 day after your cards arrive. This will also be done automatically on a monthly basis.

Meaning that if your first delivery is on the 15th of march and you do nothing, the cards will be automatically processed into your account on the 15th of April. At a cost of $0.50 per (normal sized) card, with a $5 minimum. So it's best to have at least 10 cards.

I had 18 cards (normal) processed from my mailbox to my account at a cost of $12.30 now if my maths is correct it should have only been $9 ($0.50/card) but that's another story.

In response to your question, it will depend on a few things.

1. How many cards you are getting posted.

2. If you need top loaders. (50 cents each I believe)

3. What type of postage you select. Eg. priority, normal, express and so on.

If it helps, of the 18 cards I have in my account I asked for 10 to be sent by normal postage and I think I cost me ~$7-$8

Hope this info helps.

Thanks for posting this, Scaura.

You're probably right, but we completely weren't expecting anyone sending us items that they didn't want processed. That may sound naïve, but the COMC Mailbox was never intended to be a drop-ship service; we'd imagined it as a helpful way for international customers and folks who bought many small items (group breakers etc) to get cards up into their COMC accounts and save some money. We'd never considered that our price point would make our service a compelling alternative to existing dropshippers. In fact, the Mailbox service is what lead directly to our Redemption service. Right away after launching Mailboxes we had people sending unscratched redemptions to us and we worked directly with those users to develop the Redemption service as it currently exists.

For those who haven't heard, COMC is now able to redeem your unscratched redemption cards and list them up for sale on the site while you wait for the manufacturer to send the redeemed item. Traditionally folks had to either not redeem their card and try to sell it unscratched, or redeem it and then wait for the replacement to arrive. This new service we've developed actually lets people get the best of both worlds since you can redeem it while simultaneously listing the card for sale on our site.

IF YOU DON'T WANT YOUR REDEMPTION CARDS REDEEMED: Let us know. Just shoot us an email once we get your package and we'll put your redemptions into your returns/rejected items section. Once you have anything shipped to you, we'll include your returns with the order.

We apologize for our lack of foresight on this one, and we hope that this takes care of any concerns.

Thanks,
Jeremy, COMC

I just started to get some items from my mailbox ready for shipping. These were received in one touches and toploader (as the submission photos show) and now it looks like I have to pay another 25c to get them shipped in toploaders, I have sent COMC an email as surely, this is not correct as potentially if I receive a card in a one touch, they then take it out of the one touch and I have to pay 25c to get it sent in a cheap toploader...

Hopefully this is not the case, but I'll await the response

Come to think of it, I have 45 cards arrive last week from my mailbox.

All cards arrived at comc in top loaders as per my emails. When I received them last week the cards weren't even in sleeves.

Thanks for reminding me

wow... that really isn't good enough on COMC's behalf

Let us know what response you get. I bought a bowman mini auto and bought it off a particular seller due to it being in a mini toploader which i would not have to source myself. I am hoping they can at least send that one in it's original toploader.

Can anyone at COMC explain why our cards are arriving 'toploader-less' once in hand with the customer'? If without toploader, how do you propose in packing our items (some highly valuable)?

Thanks

Hopefully we all follow up with direct emails as well to COMC as to me this is as big an issue as the redemptions were (if not bigger). I understand we are all learning with COMC and I have huge faith that a resolution that pleases everyone will be reached as I still believe this is (and will be) an awesome service for us, we all just need to iron out the creases and go through the teething process together, supporting COMC and allowing them to work through issues and learn from mistakes with our support.... I received a reply to my email from Nathan (account manager), here it is,

"The second thing you asked was about the toploaders. By default we remove cards from their toploaders when we process them. While we can process items in their toploaders, because of how they have to be handled differently, they are still charged the $0.20 adding a toploader to the shipping of the item. Because this system was put in place for consignment, and the use of mailbox to ship internationally is a newer thing, we will look over revising this policy in the future. Here is what I can do for you now though, please let me know how many items arrived with toploaders, and I will add store credit into your account equal to the amount that would be needed to have them put back in toploaders."

While this is more than ok for now, it is definitely not a solution I will be happy with moving forward. If one of my cards gets sent in a one touch or toploader, I expect to receive it in the same. Having said that, this response tells me that COMC will be on top of it and I have complete faith in COMC and this is just a bit of an oversight.... But we all need to let COMC know the importance of this to us so a "win-win" solution is achieved asap.

Hi all...I can't add a whole lot to this right now, after Nathan's response. I can tell you that this is a process that we're working through, and as we're working, we're discovering new and different things that just hadn't come up during the initial planning process.

For example, the Mailbox. We thought it would be a nice and easy way for those who enjoy case breaks or who buy their cards on other websites to get their cards to us. That was when the redemption cards started coming in. At first, we weren't sure what to do, as this wasn't something we had considered. But, after some thought, we realized that there was no reason why we couldn't handle them as we did other cards - and, even manage the redemption process for our users.

Of course, we know now that some folks would rather do the redemption themselves...I still feel bad about that, sorry.

I just wanted to say thanks again for your patience and your input, as we all strive on making this a service that works for everyone's benefit.

I've sent the following query through to COMC to try and get clarification on the shipping rates:

I've seen on forums from fellow collectors that cards sent to your COMC Mailbox don't qualify for the $3 flat rate shipping. Can you confirm if this is correct?

Can you also advise where on the COMC website it states this? I've gone looking and couldn't find anywhere on the site, especially the shipping page that states this.

If cards sent to the COMC Mailbox do not qualify for flat rate shipping, can you please advise as to where it states on the site the correct shipping costs for these cards are? Also, if I have cards that I've bought from COMC sellers and cards that have been processed in from my COMC Mailbox in my inventory, how are shipments that include cards from both of these sources handled? How will I be able to tell in my inventory which cards came via which source?

I've purchased in a number of cards which are being sent to my COMC Mailbox - some to for sale on COMC, and some to be shipped to me, along with cards I've bought on COMC that haven't shipped yet. This was all based on the info I could find about shipping, which appears to be around the $3 flat rate.

As far as I can tell, COMC are advertising a $3 shipping rate. If that doesn't apply, then I expect them to update their page on shipping information with when it does apply, and what the true shipping rates for their other services, as people are making $ decisions based on the info they're providing. If they suddenly turn around and say "they don't apply" even though there's no way of their customers knowing of this beforehand, they're going to lose a lot of goodwill. The FAQ states that if you have cards in your inventory, they can be returned to you, and that standard shipping rates apply.

Hey mate, I can't help with the exact shipping rates and where it states what they are but I can tell you that I had 25 cards shipped from my mailbox and it cost $6-$7, I'm about to ship 49 cards in the next day or 2 and it will cost $11.

Agreed - they're not huge amounts, and COMC are usually reasonable ... but according to the website, both of those should only cost you $3 ... making the actual cost a 200-300% markup on the advertised cost :)

Hi all; I'm sorry for the slow reply - I was waiting on some info before I replied to this thread.

Just to clarify the shipping fees - there is a flat $3 fee for shipping, and we charge $0.25/item to ship the items from your mailbox.

And, this happens after we process your mailbox items and place them within your COMC account. And, as discussed before, we will place a hold on any unscratched redemption cards until we hear from you, as to what you want done with them.

I hope this helps, and if you have any more questions or concerns, we'll be right here. Thanks!
