Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

Dirk's still saying he's got 2-3 years left in him, if that be the case, they should play out this season, shop big next season, and send Dirk off with a bang!
Dirk can only be moved if HE asks for it (no-trade clause).

Seeing some tweets about Cuban warning other owners on spending big on new agreements, per the new CBA? Nothing out yet, but keep you posted if I can.

Also, looks like Roy is off to Minny, and something about Batum at Minny too?

You're probably right. Dirk may not leave and they can try retool in next years Free agency. BUT, this year had some good ones and Dallas cleared cap space specifically for this free agency and have come up with squat. Can they afford to do that again?

Love how Cuban is sending out warnings. He went over the cap about 30 mill for that championship.

Owners can do what they want. They'll need to, it's the only way they'll stop Miami.

How long does Dirk even have left in him? I know he's pretty fit, but you gotta think he ain't gonna stick with the Mavs till he can't play anymore. He wants to play in Germany before retring, he has won a ring, so makes you think....

Next years free agent class.

Chris Paul
Dwight Howard
Andrew Bynum
Josh Smith
Monta Ellis
Andre Iguodala
Kevin Martin
Manu Ginobili
Tony Allen
Shawn Marion
Dorrell Wright
David West
DeJuan Blair
Paul Millsap
Al Jefferson
Lamar Odom
Devin Harris
Tiago Splitter

There's also some very good restricted free agents also.

But out of the above, I'd day Bynum and Dwight will have sign and trade deals so may not be free agents next year. That leaves only 1 guy that will change your franchise and that's CP3.

He'll surely see out his last 2 years. Then it depends on if he'll keep playing in the nba. Mavs may want to get something for him. They could get something good right now.

Batum and Wolves agree on terms

Jon Krawzynski: APNewsBreak: Timberwolves agree to terms with Batum on 4-year, $45M offer sheet with bonuses that can push it past $50M. Batum wants MN. Twitter

Jon Krawzynski: Olshey seemed pretty adamant that Blazers would match any offer. We may find out when Batum signs it on July 11 Twitter

I'm thinking for Knicks to keep JR, they'll need to do a sign and trade for Kidd, and in that case the Mavs will be asking for something in return. You know the Knicks want to match any offer on Lin, so to do that they'll need the money from a Kidd signing to do it.

Yeah you're right about Cube's spending up big, but there's something in the new CBA (remember what kept this season to a shortened one?) that about signing new FAs, I don't know what it is, and hopefully it's revealed soon so we all know what he's on about. lol.

Really, when the Mavs let Chandler and JJB go, they were counting on Dwight to opt-out of his final year, as well as being able to chase after D-Will. They were very close on Williams, and well we all know Dwight signed on for another year (even tho he wants a trade, lol), so they were close, and really only missed out on 1 guy (D-Will).

They then failed on Plan B, C, D, E, and so on.

What the problem now is (as a Mavs fan) is knowing what they're trying, and who they're trying to sign. We all knew their initial plans, and now they've all be exhausted, we're confused, and don't know what's happening.

I can't see Dirk leaving, full stop. The guy's as honest as they come, he's not going to do a Dwight and demand a trade, and then sign on again, and then cry for another season. His comments do make me slightly worried, for if the Mavs can't attract some surrounding names WORTH playing with, he make some rational decisions.

^ Blazers have to match to keep him now. That's a fair hike in value if you ask me.

Crash Wallace got 4yr/$40m, I thought that was too much. These dudes arent REALLY worth $10m a yeah, yeah? Lebron/Wade/Bosh are making $15m...

Not saying Dirk wants to be traded, rather if the Mavs don't do much in the next 2 yrs, you may find him heading home o/s while he still has something left in the tank!

Lebron should be getting 25 really. Especially if Kobe gets 30.

Wade is worth more like 17 - 20, Bosh up there also.

We all know they took less money. I mean, Joe Johnson is on like 28??? Crazy. But when you're not a top level team, you have to pay top $$$ for those kind of guys.

10 is alot, but Wallace is an All Star and can flat out ball.

I still cannot get over the horrid off season that Dallas has had. Just think how different their roster for next season will look, compared with the roster that won them a Championship just over a year ago. No Kidd, no JET, no Chandler, just Dirk and some role players (no offense Matrix, but that's where your at these days). I guess the "putting all your eggs (DWill) in one basket" approach has clearly NOT worked for Mark Cuban, and I think it will take some serious luck in next years lottery, or Dirk being willing to be traded, to fix up this mess in anything less than 5 years.

Also sucks to read that Roy has chosen Minnesota over Indiana (amongst others), but it sure makes the T'Wolves look pretty good for this upcoming season. Would it be safe to say that T'Wolves will take Mav's playoff spot next season?

And then there is Houston....wtf are they doing at PG. 2 weeks ago it was a position of strength for them with both Dragic and Lowry still technically both Rockets. And now what do they have to show for those two quality young players - a lottery protected 1st round pick - wow, way to stink up your roster, sounds like Mavs all over again.

So with alot of the top FA's now having found homes (alot of new ones:)) what FA's are still worth pursuing? Is Ray Allen pretty much a Heat player at this stage? I would love Indiana to grab Mayo, but given Hibbert's larger than expected deal Pacers may not have quite enough money to throw at Mayo as I hear that he is asking quite a bit.

list of 12-13 free agents from ESPN - http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/page/FreeAgents-12-13/nba-free-agents-2012-2013

given that list above, do the Mavs tank this season (of course they wouldn't do that). Get a top draft pick (5 out of top 10 are SG/SF - http://nbadraft.net/2013mock_draft), then throw money at dwight + CP3.

It would be downright stupid to put all your eggs in the CP3 basket. They could'nt pull Deron away from the Nets. I give them little chance of getting CP3.

Maybe the Mavs should grab Juwan Howard. He's a gun:whistle:

I must also add, it's a shame the Mavs are looking like a laughing stock. I really liked their team over the years. But they are looking a bit silly.

And now with Cuban tweeting, he's just gonna make himself look dumber.

I think it's pretty obvious we'll see Dwight in another uni by the All-Star break. If not, he'll be a FA for anyone's picking.

Can't see the Mavs tanking, they'll still fail at that, and win more games and be ineligible for the lottery lol.

Nothing concrete on Ray Allen yet, apparently someone from MIA (reporter or something I think) was tweeting that they had him, but has since apologised. There's still some young and talented guys on the FA list. Mavs should def be making a run for Camby or Kaman, at least to fill the paint. PG, they're rumoured to be signing Sessions, but that remains to be seen.

LOL, just read a tweet, that Lin and Gordon played a total 44 games, and have been offered $88m! Over $400m in contracts have been handed out in the last 72hrs.

Gordon wants to play in PHX, but NOH won't let him go, and same with Batum, wants to play with MIN, but POR won't let him go.

Surely if they signed howard, CP3 would be more interested in lining up with howard & Nowitzki than Griffin & Jordan
