I'm thinking for Knicks to keep JR, they'll need to do a sign and trade for Kidd, and in that case the Mavs will be asking for something in return. You know the Knicks want to match any offer on Lin, so to do that they'll need the money from a Kidd signing to do it.
Yeah you're right about Cube's spending up big, but there's something in the new CBA (remember what kept this season to a shortened one?) that about signing new FAs, I don't know what it is, and hopefully it's revealed soon so we all know what he's on about. lol.
Really, when the Mavs let Chandler and JJB go, they were counting on Dwight to opt-out of his final year, as well as being able to chase after D-Will. They were very close on Williams, and well we all know Dwight signed on for another year (even tho he wants a trade, lol), so they were close, and really only missed out on 1 guy (D-Will).
They then failed on Plan B, C, D, E, and so on.
What the problem now is (as a Mavs fan) is knowing what they're trying, and who they're trying to sign. We all knew their initial plans, and now they've all be exhausted, we're confused, and don't know what's happening.
I can't see Dirk leaving, full stop. The guy's as honest as they come, he's not going to do a Dwight and demand a trade, and then sign on again, and then cry for another season. His comments do make me slightly worried, for if the Mavs can't attract some surrounding names WORTH playing with, he make some rational decisions.
