Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

yeah, just looked at their roster. They've got 2 old players signed up for 3 years in carter and marion.

Marion looked to be the only one with any sort of value, but why would a team take him. They do also have about 10 million in trade exceptions

Both VC and Matrix are past their prime with contracts no one wants. Only hope is to add a scoring pg, Lin, Sessions or Arenas, and maybe grab Randy Foye or OJ Mayo to sure up the backcourt. They should've made a run for Eric Gordon - though NO have already said they'll match any offer.

What a morning of nba news, love it. This Free agency has got to be one of the best in a long long time. The Lebron one I was just shocked that he, Wade and Bosh all signed for Miami.

This has loads of HOF'ers moving all over the place.

Lakers have improved massively. They still need some bench guys if they want to win it. A good 6th man will help them out.

Kidd to Knicks is an excellent pick up.

Dallas WTF, what are you doing???

There's some good buys still. Camby and Kaman in the bigs and Ray Ray and Mayo are the standouts.

What a shake up.

Clips continue to get better adding players. I'm sure LO will be good this season, probably cos he's fighting for another big payout.

As for the Mavs, Matrix, quite possibly, depending who you ask (no one asked Lebron or Durant or Kobe), was the DPOY last season, and is still a GREAT defender, his trade value would be reasonable, but no one pays defenders money these days. Also, I doubt we'd WANT to move him on (they thought about it if we were to get D-Will and another big named player).

Haywood still holds a lot of value believe it or not. Given he can be amnestied, someone could instantly shred $8m!

I'd like to see us sign Camby for a year, I'm sure it's possible. I'd like to see West return, I think that's a given, but FA-wise, I'd like to see the Mavs look at players like Anthony Randolph, Nick Young and Carl Landry for long-term deals. They're not old vet's and they're not young guys, they're in line for a decent pay this year, and the Mavs surely ARE in a rebuilding stage. These young guys WILL play given no one wants them, and especially their old teams.

Ray Allen remains unsigned, and I'd love to see the Mavs put an offer out for him, at least TRY!

Mavs' non-moves are digging deep with Dirk:

"I'm too old to rebuild"...

http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/mavericks/post/_/id/4690648/dirk-nowitzki-im-too-old-to-rebuild
From the clip-and-save department comes this from Dirk Nowitzki.

After a few weeks to absorb the first playoff sweep of his career, Dirk was asked how he would view the Dallas Mavericks' free-agent pursuit of Deron Williams, considering the price of doing so was not re-signing Tyson Chandler from the 2011 title team, if it came up empty.

The question was posed to him during a May appearance on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM's "Galloway & Co.," and, as usual, Dirk answered it openly and honestly.

"It’s kind of tough," he said. "I’m like the grandfather of Dallas sports right now."

He was asked if he could ever see a time when he would request a trade if the pieces didn't come together as planned. Nowitzki, with two years left on his deal, and Kobe Bryantare the only players in the NBA with no-trade clauses in their contracts.

"I’m not sure," Nowitzki, 34, said. "I’ve always said I want to finish my career here and obviously the championship season topped it all off; that’s what I always was chasing and dreaming about so that kind of sealed that deal on that front. If we really come out with nobody this summer then maybe they want to rebuild and, obviously, I’m too old for that. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens on that front. But I still think I got two, three good years left in me and if we get some players in here we can be right back up there and compete."

Ouch Dallas.

Surely they would look to move Dirk next? Dirk for Pau would be pretty even moneywise???

Lakers might just be licking their lips.

Would Cuban do it? Well, Dirk would have to ask anyway as he has a no trade clause.

Can't see how the Mavs can make it work. They could possibly miss the playoffs this year.

Alot of teams are getting better and Dallas got a whole lot worse.

I still think if the Lakers could get Dwight for Bynum and trade Dirk for Pau they would not need much else after that.

Now that is a team. Sheesh, would'nt be good for the Spurs but I would like to see Miami vs Lakers in the finals.

Ha ha.

Ha ha.
geez if that happened, having

Dwight
Dirk
Metta
Kobe
Nash

who would challenge? I think that would even be to much for Miami.

Dirk's still saying he's got 2-3 years left in him, if that be the case, they should play out this season, shop big next season, and send Dirk off with a bang!
Dirk can only be moved if HE asks for it (no-trade clause).

Seeing some tweets about Cuban warning other owners on spending big on new agreements, per the new CBA? Nothing out yet, but keep you posted if I can.

Also, looks like Roy is off to Minny, and something about Batum at Minny too?

John Hollinger ‏@johnhollinger
KAAAHHHHHHHNNNNNN!!!!!!! RT @AlexKennedyNBA Brandon Roy has agreed to a two-year, $10 million deal with Minnesota, according to sources.

John Hollinger ‏@johnhollinger
If this dollar figure is true, Minny either has to amnesty Darko and renounce Tolliver, or offer Batum much less $.

John Hollinger ‏@johnhollinger
I'm guessing -- guessing -- that Sota told Batum they wouldn't give him offer unless they knew Blazers wouldn't match. Ergo, recent tactics.

^ If Blazers arent matching Batum offers, the Mavs should DEF jump on his arse, he's a great perimeter player! Something the Mavs lack.

EDIT:
Blazers saying they'll match any offer for Batum.
http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/8...ch-offers-restricted-free-agent-nicolas-batum

PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Trail Blazers have met with restricted free-agent Nicolas Batum and told him they'd like to keep him in Portland.

A Blazers spokesman confirmed the meeting and reiterated the team intends to match any offer that the French forward might attract. Portland earlier extended Batum a qualifying offer.

Reading now about Mavs/Knicks doing a sign & trade for Kidd???

http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/222101/Knicks_Mavericks_Discussing_Jason_Kidd_Sign_And_Trade
The Knicks, Mavericks and Jason Kidd are working on a sign-and-trade deal.
Kidd agreed to a deal with New York on Thursday, surprisingly choosing a new team over Dallas.
Negotiations are ongoing.
The most the Knicks can offer Kidd is $9.7 million over three years, by using the so-called mini-midlevel exception.
Kidd changed his mind about re-signing with the Mavericks on Thursday afternoon.
A person familiar with his mind-set said that Kidd “so much wanted to get to New York” and was clearly conflicted about his decision.
