Xbox 360 - 2K9 2nd Tournament Prep Thread

Ok I've set up a test league and sent invites to Scotty, Phill and Gary. When you guys can, just check your invites within 2k9 Live League Options, accept it and enter ozcardleague as the password. Just to see how it works, I need Phill to take the Bulls or anyone in the East, and the other 2 guys to take anyone in the West. I'm sure it will be set up just like an AFL league with no divisions unlike NBA but would like to find out.

Just one more thing, an update on the numbers situation;

We've got 4 definites here, if Ducky wants in that's 5 from the last tournament and not sure about Clerk, if he's interested or able to play.

I've just checked my live contacts and I've got a total of 13 players on there within Oz and one guy from NZ. Now if everyone was interested, I doubt it will go that way but let's just put it into perspective; Would everyone be happy with an 18 team league? Or should we maybe aim for 16 with 8 playoff spots which would be perfect.

Just messaged all these guys along with the OZCT members, not with invites but just to see who replies and who is interested for now and we'll go from there. If someone can confirm that the message has gone trough that would be great. :v:

Scotty you got time to sort this out tonight? I can't do anything with this test league until all 4 of us have joined the league, just need you to accept your invite. Will take us 10 minutes if you got it spare to work out the settings, sim a draft and sim the season. I'll leave my xbox on and should be online for the next 2 hours. Gotta get an early one but if you got time let's get this done mate before interest dies down. No reason we can't kick this off next weekend.

Just a quick mention of the numbers; So far we've got the 4 of us and ducky wants in aswell, looks like he may have a mate that will play and I've got 2 yes replies from my contacts. So far we're looking at 8. I'll message again tomorrow night if I haven't heard back from a few more.

I think we're limiting this one to Aus and NZ members to avoid any scheduling and connection problems. Most guys are limited to getting a game going of an evening so that limits times they can play and makes it harder when organising a game with someone in another country. It's nothing against you guys at all and I think you'll find plenty of leagues and tournaments run out of the US far more organised than this. :v:

Thanks mate. I'll add you as an admin so you can make adjustments too. Will you be online tonight? I'm gonna jump on at around 8:30pm. Let me know if there's a better time. We'll go through it all, sim the draft, sign some free agents, do a trade and then just sim all results to see how it flows. Once that's done we can set up a proper league.

Just had a look at it now;

Once everyone has joined you have the option to manage users although there are no real options asides from viewing who is in the league and what teams they have. No options of having two league admin either, I thought that would have been an option but seems it isn't the case. I'm happy for Scotty to run it again, he started all of this, I just wanted to put the wheels in motion kind of thing.

So anyway, I scheduled the draft which was the only other option and came to a screen where I had to organise the date, time and round limit. Being 9pm the earliest time I could choose was 10pm and the ealiest date I could choose was the 2nd of June (tonight being the 1st), I'm guessing it has to be scheduled 24 hours in advance.

Round limit is what threw me off, we have the option of 30 seconds counting through to 45, 60, 75, 90, 105 up to 2 minutes. This brings me to the conclusion that a simmed draft is not possible and all players would be required to be online at the time of the draft to make their picks.

The only way I see a simmed draft possible is if no one makes any picks and the computer goes ahead and drafts for each team once the time expires. I've set it up for 11:30pm tomorrow night, I've got a night class but I'll be home by 11 so should get an idea of how it will work then and will post up the details soon as I know.

One thing is for certain is that anyone in the league can check out the draft page in advance and make picks that they'd hope to get. So if you couldn't be online the computer would try and get those guys for you if they hadn't been picked. I don't think there's a specific order of preference, you just click A on the players you like and it puts a tick next to there name. Could be an option for a live draft if the simmed plan doesn't work.

Anyway, will know more tomorrow night.

Looks and sounds very similar to the Yahoo Fantasy Leagues, where you pre-pick in preference your players, and if they're available, you get them at that pick #.

If for some reason the simmed draft doesnt come out in how we'd like, perhaps we just use default rosters, with trades?

Well let us know how it goes, and we should be able to get a modified season happening real soon.

I think the best way is to do a draft and you check the players you want in advance if you carnt make it. As much as i love my current squad (-Deng and Kirk) i think playing with a simmed draft is more interesting as it gives you the GM'my feel as you have to make do with what you got. Also that way it makes the team you use just for the jersey so it wont really matter what team you pick (but im bulls anyway)

so i vote for draft with trades..

I think we've got 5 OZCT Members (Taz, Gordon7, Westriot, Ducky, Myself) plus Ducky's mate and 2 non OZCT members, looking at 8 so far. I'm going to send another mass PM to all the contacts tonight and start hitting them up as I see them online to see if there's any interest.

This is weird! Looks like the draft had already happened. I did schedule it for 11:30 tonight so not sure what happened there. From the results it looks like a simmed draft is possible so long as we do not choose any players. Did any of you guys end up messing with it?

From loking at that, the only way this going to work kinda fair is if there's 10 or more teams. We'll have a far better spread of talent that way.
