Xbox 360 - 2K9 2nd Tournament Prep Thread

I was actually thinking similar along the lines of Oz only (NZ included), and Tassie included of course, who else can defend their title???

Nothing against Intl members, or anything at all, I just think with a more detailed competition, we're going to need to be online around the same times/more often to catch up for more games, etc.

Stevo, don't shoot off any invites yet, until we've finalised discussions here.

We can certainly make use of the 2K forums, we only used this one last time, as we're all members here. We had it available to us to use:
2K Sports

I'm keen for any sort of tournament, just need people to agree on whatever it is we choose.

I'd like to do a short season rather than just a playoffs, or if we do just playoffs styled, stretch it out to best of 7 or at least 5.

I'm also keen for fantasy rosters, but am happy to run with standard rosters.

Who's up for what????

No problems mate. like I said I'm only gonna fire off some PM's through Live once we all agree on what we're doing exactly and just to get an idea of how many of these guys are interested and how many more spots we can fill through their contacts. Good point with the time too, I think that's one of the biggest problems when we got players from here, there and everywhere. If we're all in Aus then getting a game running on the fly or organising a time is a breeze. Most of us are just online of an evening anyway.

My Vote is for a short season. I'm gonna check it out properly after dinner and see what options are available. I'd prefer standard teams chosen by a lottery type deal through random.org but I'm happy for a draft if that's what everyone wants. Also with the time it takes to invest to get it running, we'd probably benefit more from something that will run a little longer and as I've said before, everyone is involved alot longer. When running just a playoff style tournament, we're always going to have a few of us that are out of action in the first week.

And of course we want the Tasmanians in it although I'm sure you know I was just poking fun. :v:

Just my thoughts, keen to see what everyone else thinks. :)

If it's possible for a simmed draft, that's the only ideal way we could do one. Otherwise it'd mean we'd be up til god knows when with a live draft!

If it's standart rosters, we'd give everyone a number, and random it up yeah, and then pick our teams. Should work fine.

C'mon guys need more comments/ideas....

Ok, checked it out just now quickly.

We can have a minimum of 4 teams, counting up by two's right through to 30. So 4, 6, 8, 10 etc. We just need to scope out how much interest there is and we're really not limited here. If we had say 9 definites, we just need one more to make an even 10 teams. Just an example and we'll cross that bridge.

Playoff Spots are determined by how many teams are involved and we can customise that. So if we have 8 teams, we can have 8 playoff spots or a minimum of 4, the only two options available and you wouldn't need to change that. Anything under 8 and the min/max is 4 playoff spots. If we could get more than 16 then we'd have the option of 16. I'm thinking if we can get say 12 or more spots filled, then go with 8 playoff spots. The goal should be qualifying and it defeats the purpose otherwise.

Season length is a minimum of 10 games ranging to 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40 or a full 82 game season. I like the sounds of something between 20 and 30 games this time around. If it runs smoothly we could always organise a longer season.

I'm pretty sure if someone drops out we'll have an option to replace that player or there's always the alternative which is simming the game and the active user get's the W.

I vote trades active. Will be more fun and that way we don't have to fuss around with a draft in order to acquire a player. Also suggest each round goes for a week. I'm pretty sure that will require 2 to 3 games each week just like the tournament did. I'm not fussed, will depend on how many games everyone can play every so often and all that. Would also like to see the Playoffs upped to best of 7.

I think 8 minute Quarters on Superstar with the Fatigue up a little more than last time around would be ideal. I had to force myself to use my bench where I easily could have had everyone in the whole game asides from the bigs who tire easily. Just up it enough to force the use of the bench.

Let me know what you guys think.

Oh just to add, Simmed Fantasy Draft is possible. I'd be happy to take the luck of the draw there after we've sorted out which teams we got. Could make things very interesting and everyone would have to learn how to use that squad from scratch.

Ill be in but i just dont wanna have to wait a million years for it to get started.

i reackon a simmed fantasy draft and we just take a number and have to manage the team as is. Trades should also be active aswell. Best of 7 series and just to put it out there im Chicago :)

Also if were doing a fantasy draft we have to figure out what to do with the rest of the free agent players. as all the players in the nba carnt be assigned to 10 12 teams.

I'm keen for everything here.

10 teams with only 8 playoff spots, meaning you have to qualify.
Simmed draft, just to jazz things up.

20 game season, I reckon that'd be enough. That means we all play 20 games each, yeah? So if there's 10 teams, we play each other twice (one home and one away) - no advantages.

Allow for picking up FA's (if that's an option), I actually have a few faves that wouldnt normally be drafted.

Trades = on - that's a good option as some people have faves they always have to have.

It would be great if we can get 10 members from here, but if we can't I'm sure we can make up the numbers outside OCT.

How's everyone else feel about the specs above?

How do we pick teams? Like if there's only 10 teams can we stipulate which 10 teams are used?

all good with the above

should picking teams be the same as last time?

ppl pick who they want (i carnt play anywhere but Chicago.)

I guess we could test that out. If Phill is online later, or anyone else - I'll see if I can kickstart a small 4 player season and sim it all the way. I'll go out of my way to choose Three Eastern Teams and One Western and see whether the computer breaks those teams into fantasy conferences which i'm pretty sure it will. I'll check out the FA situation too, find out what happens with those guys and try a trade ot two. At this stage I'm curious whether the computer will sim the whole league of players amongst the 4 active teams or the whole league. If it's just the active teams then they're going to be pretty stacked. If it's that whole league obviously we're going to have alot of players we'd like to trade for unavailable unless any undrafted players not in the 4 active teams actually end up in the FA section. Rambling on a bit there....

20 games sounds fine to me, if we had 10 teams it would be perfect. Do we want to limit it to 10 teams? I guess if we did we don't have to worry about filling extra spots and finding out how many people are interested, we just set it up and fill it which should be easy.

As for picking teams, I'm fine with first in best dressed so if Gary wants Portland, Phill wants Chi etc etc I don't have a problem with that. If the rosters are simmed I might just take step back and pick my team last although you know who I'd like to take. I'm also happy with the random.org idea. Not fussed with how we do it.

Just thought if anyone has any other suggestions on what to test, let me know.

sell some of your excess cards and get yourself a cheapo second hand one :)

I don't have enough to sell LOL But argh... Now I want to find out what it would cost me to get one and 2k9 and play!!!!!!!!!!

Can you play multiplayer games with only the silver live membership though? I don't wanna have to pay each month for access to play multiplayer online.

Naah you need to have the gold. If you hook up a credit card through your xbox account then you can get away with a yearly membership for around $70. Anywhere up to $90 if you go through a store but you'd get your headset aswell which would kind of even it out.

Think I'm best just sticking to my PC multiplayer games... won't cost me as much lol but good luck guys :)

I'll just have to come and visit scotty to woop his arse again (as if that ever happened LOL).

Sounds cool picking our own teams as long as it's fantasy draft, other wise, it's back to randomising it all up so we get a draft pick (for picking our team).

Steve, let me know when you're doing it, and I'll try and jump at the same time to check it out too.

Wll do mate. If we're both nominated as League admin, for the test anyway, then whe'll both get an idea of how it will go and be able to mess with the settings. Probably between 6:30 and 7:30 tonight. Missed the game today so holding off for the replay at 7:30 tonight. Otherwise I should be on again later after that finishes.

i was wondering if you can play xbox live people on the pc version of nba 2k9?

Not too sure about that mate, if I had to guess I'd say it wouldn't be compatible.

Can anyone jump online quickly? I need 4 players including myself so another three of you guys just to accept invites quickly and choose a team. No playing involved...

Oh crap, sorry bud, won't be available tonight.

If you get on, let me know how it goes.
