Which Stats Are Better ?

Re: Are we too stat obsessed??

yeah.. they're going to now, but I just dont have respect for the cavs.. such a over acheiving team.. like the pacers are.. the cavs are too up and down... very hard to predict

geez... mings really having his way with... kwame brown, any second tmac will break out... once he gets off the bench

Re: Are we too stat obsessed??

Take it to heated discussions maybe??

But thats been said once before already hasn't it.

Re: Are we too stat obsessed??

Well no one will why you are going on and on about this. It will get moved and split up me thinks.

So are we talking stats over achievments, or are we talking about the games on today, with their players' stats (T-Mac, Ming, etc, etc, etc).

You guys have some interesting points, putting stats aside if you really want to know why he is the living ledgend that he is just watch some of his early games and compare them to some of his lastest. Early on he dominated by althetic drives to the basket, speed, monster dunks and moves you would see in an x-man movie.....towards the end of his era he developed the best J - shot in the game, could rack up assists like a point guard and shoot 3's like freethrows even though he lost half a step in speed and a few inches off the verticle.
What made Jordan the best player is how he kept his game on top and himself deadly even as he got older. Alot of the new players - Lebron, Penny, Kobe all have had great starts to their careers and produce great stats but can/will they still be the gun players at the end of their careers when their bodies aren't as fresh and new blood come into the league who are quicker.faster.....?? Stats will show you anything you want to see.....Besides statistically speaking the more times you say statistically in a sentence the more chance there is you will be believed - statistically speaking that is.:^o

2) lebron will be a great player, but wont accomplish a great deal, let alone get to the playoffs (though he should.. the east is as weak as ever after detroit)

lol I can't resist this one. Have you actually seen Lebron play the game? The guy is a monster. He could be one of the all time greats. He is 21 years old. Ummmm just think about that for a minute.

Oh yeah, I think you get it.

How can you make a call like that and keep a straight face? Can you please offer a book on this?

*whoops, just realised I contributed to the off-topicness of this thread

hmmm no.. i mean i've only got like 50 dvds of his games, and seem to have watched most of them.. the guy isnt the type of player jordan was that can carry his team anywhere he wants it to go... if anything, the cavs have a better equiped team than what jordan had in the mid to late 80s and yet the cavs are yet to make the playoffs with "god james" playing for them.. oh and jordan was never booed by his own fans, and jordan took his team and scared the hell out of the celtics if you dont recall.. he took his team to the playoffs.. he acheived alot more than lebron will in his whole career.. dont ever compare him to mj

yeah i was thinking that.. i mean he has done some good things on that team.. but seeing he's the 2nd option on that exact rockets team, so he should.. but now he's the man without tmac.. lets see what he gets done on the court.. who else is going to clean up the boards and score points with/without tmac? wesley? j howard (who i admit is playing well)? / swift? anderson?

Prob. not anderson seeing as he got traded the other week. Should be interesting to see if he can handle the load over the next couple of weeks (and all the double teams they should be throwing at him).

I cant belive people are putting Lebron in the same catagory as Jordan already. It seems as though when ever a young player comes along there is all this hype about them being young and so good they always throw out the jordan shouts.....

i agree, you can never ever say anyone is as good as jordan until they accomplish everything.. or close to what jordan has.. lead the league in scoring quite a few times, win mvp as many times as mj, win 6 titles and capture mvp while your at it, lead a team to the playoffs and beat quality teams, get the defensive player awards or at least be in 1st all nba defensive team.. cant be bothered going into more than that but you know where its headed... even if you do all the above and more, your not michael jordan, your not as much of a threat as the guy, your team good/bad wont go anywhere near where jordan took his alone or with a supporting cast..

Where was Jordan when he was 21????

At what age did he actually get a reliable outside shot and start winning titles???

Even without comparisons based on what Jordan eventually achieved and what Lebron can you have to admit he looks good to go on with it. Early on in Jordan's career people were saying the same thing. He is great but will never go on to lead a team to a title.

The Bulls even with Jordan were not a real threat early on in his career and got no respect.
