What happens to forum members who rip other members off

Agree. Another issue, what would stop someone using a prepaid number, then disconnect it when sh!t goes down? Too many issues involved with verifying a number.

I brought this up a while ago re garding providing a phone number(think its in Dave's thread about been scammed),some memember jumped up and down about privacy/security etc, funny that people are willing to give an address but not a phone number, i would be happy tp provide either a number to the mods or even the person im doing a deal with, why would you be worried about providing a phone number on a big deal, people provide all sorts of info day in day out, yet you wouldn't want to provide a phone number if you had were sending a rare/expensive card, or transferring $500 - $2000 etc...

Good idea in theory but how are we going to verify it? I don't know about Matt and Graham but I sure don't have time to ring people and ask is that X. Of course we could look them up in the whitepages, but not everyone is in there and it would be easy enough to pick a random number from there and say it's yours

and then there is the whole swag of privacy issues/concerns

Just remember AY there are some kids on here 14 and 15 years old. I dont think their parents would appreciate calls to their kids from strangers.

Billyhoyle is right - holding someones personal details on your website has a significant amount of legislative requirements attached to it via the privacy act. If that info the got hacked into and released they would be fined a hell of a lot of money. Max fine is $50,000 per breach.

Owen is there a clear legal precedent in the legislative requirements? :p

Why is it up to us to verify the details of someone YOU are doing a trade with? If it was a deal where you considered it to be highend, then wouldn't you be getting all of this information from the other person and verifying it yourself before proceeding with the deal.

I liken it to walking up to someone in the street that you don't know and handing over a couple of hundred with the promise they would send the cards later. There's no way in hell I'd be doing that without protecting myself in some way but over the internet people seem to have no second thoughts with doing it.

totally agree people need to take some sort of ownership on deals... Peter from Gametrading is running a comp join his website be in the draw to win a box of NRL/AFL cards, people freely will join in the chance of winning by providing all personal details but don't want to provide a phone number between each other when doing a big deal.....

Owen im refering to large deals, if 14 yo are doing deals involving $500+ then yeah i would want a contact number from them, if a 14yo has that much money to throw around, then i get worried.... and i understans all the "pedo" stuff that your alluding to that could/might happen....

I believe the high end deal Shaun was involved with was on another forum. Not sure what the story was there...but im pretty sure it was over a pricey Star Wars Galaxy 6 sketch card....Dave might know more.

Would the mods approve to the creation of a 3rd party verification exchange and allowing it on this site. I think there are several people who has the same idea as well so not claiming this as my idea. Especially for high-end cards, lets say for anything greater than $1000 (or any other discretionary amount set by the mods), both sellers and buyers need to use a third party to transact for a small fee (to cover costs). It might cost more to transact but at least it provides protection to both parties and saves the mods in dealing with massive fraud cases. The third party can also provide a bank gurantee to Ozcardtrader so that he does not play up as well. Well let me know, I'll be happy to set up a third party verification exchange for high-end cards here on OZ card trader. Cheers Alex

Are these guys normal ? thieving cards how low can you get and to think they both where highly respected members!

Also trying to Get Ray Jordan-23 banned on SCF , geeze those mods on there are absolute sleepers though did not realise who he was with countless threads on there forum , then to add salt to the wound ,Ray the moron is making threads and they are responding to him .

I don't know Ray personally but does that douche make my skin crawl i would love to catch up with him for a coffee and a chat ;) .

Shaun had a big deal on Scoundral, I was actually contacted by the fella who was dealing with Shaun so we could compare notes etc on attempts to contact. My deal was not huge but it was still the second piece to a two part sketch panel from SWG6 which, for me at least, makes it all that much harder because I will never complete this panel and I cannot in good conscience sell it because the other party would not complete it either........ :(

It all sounds great in theory Alex but i think your underestimating the costs and potential issues involved. Bank guarantees are a pain in the ass to set up and what happens if i send you the card and the it goes missing in between you and the buyer?

I know its not perfect but anyone heard of paypal? I know Bolli lost out to Steve but if he followed the Paypal processes he most likely would not be in his current situation.
