The Official NEW YORK KNICKS thread

How he plays means nothing of he is in NY, Asians will go made for him no matter what in that market. My wife's Chinese cousins that know nothing about basketball wouldn't shut up about Lin, anyone would think he is Lebron
Yao was the perfect example of this - being voted into the Allstar game even though he spot most of the season (if not all) out injured

In my opinion, New York screwed up big time...

This is not a matter of Jeremy Lin bringing NY a championship, it should have been all about money... Jeremy Lin is a brand, he brings more than just chemistry and 5 turnovers per game. He had major positive financial impact on the team beyond his salary whatever it maybe.

1. Overpaying on player salary has always been the case with the Knicks... why not overpay this Chinese guy? There is potentially massive returns on this investment. Think about the entire Chinese population watching all 82 crappy games of the Knicks for the next 3 seasons, having that international appeal, selling millions of Lin jerseys to Chinese all around the world...

2. What about the rising share prices of Madison Square Garden when team was on his winning streak? Jeremy Lin can work his magic beyond basketball, he is a winner on and off the court.

3. So what if his salary is 14.9 million in the third year... what does Dolan think he is doing? putting together a Championship team? with Carmelo and Amare? is he kidding himself. By the third year, he wouldn't have to worry about these massive contracts because they all would have been traded or bought out.

What I don't understand is why people cannot see how valuable Jeremy Lin is off the court. They hit the jackpot when Linsanity exploded, now they just threw it away... Houston is so lucky to get an Asian star back on the team. They are back to where they were with Yao Ming on board.

Talking about people getting injured after signing a big contract and Lin not having proven himself over a 82 game NBA schedule. Did Tracy McGrady/Grant Hill prove anything after they signed 90 million contracts? they are great players when healthy, but anyone can get injured, any contract is a gamble. Besides, Lin's contract is only 8 million a year, not that big by NBA standards.

I felt that New York didn't really want Lin that much coz if they did, they would have put an offer on the table for Lin to sign before he went out and tested FA. And I don't think its all about the money. I think its got more to do with other players' input to the management. I don't think Melo and Stat support Lin being there 100%. There are talks that other players are uncomfortable with Lin in the locker room which I don't know maybe some discrimination going on in there.

And who knows, maybe the Knicks have already decided that they will not bring Lin back in the first place. Maybe they just pretended that they will match any offer and when it gets too high they now have a valid reason not to re-sign Lin. And instead of thanking Lin for helping them make the play-offs, Jim Dolan expressed feeling betrayed that Lin pushed Houston to increase their offer. And after signing all those $$$ to players that didn't play to their expectation now they let Lin walk away for nothing. If they have matched Houston's offer, Lin could have at least bring some $$$ back in revenues if he turns out to be a failure. What a bunch of losers...

I hope that Jeremy Lin succeeds in Houston.

I hope for Knicks fans sake, Melo and Stat get them to at least the 4th seed in the east come play-off time.

Melo's words about Houston's offer - "Ridiculous Contract" - thats funny coz he should be looking at a mirror.

It is a 100% stupid decision by Dolan, no matter which way you view it. Hence, the only justification he had was that he felt betrayed... which is totally driven by emotion, with no logic involved.

The Knicks have done some serious retooling, by adding Kidd, Camby and Felton... but question remains if that will work out. Kidd is really old and he will really just be part of the rotation and play a mentor role. Camby is still good for his age but how long can those legs hold out with his history of injuries. Felton is alright, but really a difference maker. I am just disappointed with the Knicks management, there seems to be a choice between Carmelo Anthony or Lin. And they chose the whinger.

I have expressed my views on some American forums and I am surprised that a lot of people there don't like Jeremy Lin. They still have this image of him being overrated and how Linsanity is long gone, so he is not worth a penny. I am just surprised by such short sighted views.

This Knicks team is a 2 year team. We need to win something in the next 2 years or completely rebuild again. I see this team winning 52 games this season and making it to at least the second round of the playoffs.

To be honest after thinking about I'm glad Lin is gone, I only wish we got something out of it.

I say closer to 41 wins. This is not a team that fills me with a lot of confidence. Especially in regards to consistency. They will get in some hot streaks and some deep funks over the season.

This team looks a lot more solid then last years in my opinion.

Starting 5 at the opening of the season

Felton
Smith
Carmelo
Amar'e
Chandler

With Kidd and Camby getting some good mins off the bench.

are you kidding me? your disappointed that ny picked one of the top 10 players in the league in melo over lin?

I am just disappointed that New York showed so little care with their money on almost everybody in the NBA, but they have limitations on an Asian athlete who made their shares rise and sold tickets and jerseys all around the world. They even let him walk away for free, at least do a sign-and-trade for future draft picks/expiring contracts if they don't want financial burden in the next 2 years.

And on top of that, I don't like Carmelo Anthony. He can surely score and rack up the stats, but his teams are never winners. Anyway, we will see how the Knicks go this coming year and that will have the last say.

Can't do sign and trades on ristricted free agents.

Not sure how that works. Lin showed he was to greedy to wanna stay at the Knicks. Woodson and everyone at the Knicks said they were gonna re sign him. Then he goes and signs an offer sheet so the Knicks would have to give him even more money. I'll be happy to see him fail with the Rockets

But wasn't that the point? Knicks wanted to test his value before laying an offer on the table, so he went and found his worth and signed an offer sheet. From what I can tell that's what Knicks were expecting to happen. It's not lins fault ny wasn't happy with the price.

No, NY said what price they were gonna pay, Lin want and spoke with the Rockets and came back saying he wanted more. I'm not against anyone getting extra money if that's what they want. But don't go to the press saying you always wanted to stay at the Knicks.

Interesting reading, totally understand the point on the $$ lin would have brought but personally I thought he was a product of diatoni's offense so could maybe understand why they didn't sign him. The Knicks front office should be all sacked, they make such bad decisions. Melo is a cat, stoudamire was done in Phoenix, Camby is well and truly cooked and j Kidd. Would love to see the Knicks average age. Just can't understand their direction, the players they have are not going to win championships and a lot in their twilight. Melo has the game to dominate but his head most certainly is on another page!!

Lin has no doubt benefited from D'Antoni's system but everybody is the product of someone's system too. Would Michael Jordan or Kobe Bryant score 30+ points a game if they were not Phil Jackson's number 1 scoring option in the triangle offense? Amare Stoudemire is also a product of D'Antoni's system, the Knicks had no issues paying him $15 million a year. What's more important is when any NBA player is given that opportunity to play major minutes, they would capitalize on that chance and show that they belong. That is what Jeremy Lin has done, and there is nothing wrong in cashing in because ultimately that's what these players are playing basketball for. As if any of them will want to play 82 games, put their bodies on the line if this is all for charity.

Fair call. What I was getting at was Lin probably would not have done so well under the current coach, I guess maybe they should have kept him over a pg almost eligible for a pension!!!!
