The Official LA LAKERS thread!!

Ron Artest / Metta World Peace Is awesome ... He's always had a screw loose, do you guys not remember him jumping Into the stands and beating the crap out of everyone ??? ... Then he really turned himself around and people love the guy now ... that was HIS doing. He could of went the other way and stayed hated or even leave the NBA ... He's a krazy guy, that USUALLY means well. He's great to have on your team, and even better to have on your side In a scuffle ! ... There's not TOO MANY guys In the league that you KNOW will mess you up.

He's getting older, and doesn't score 20 points a game like he once did ... but that's not his role on this team. He still locks down players. Still a hell of a defensive player. Couple weeks ago he matched up with Durant, boy that was something to watch. You gotta watch the games and watch the players, you don't get stats for guarding a guy like he does, or tapping the ball loose constantly ... or even his defensive presence alone. ... So he changed his name, oh so what ? It's still Ron Artest. ... You can't name too many non centers that can play or DO play defense like Artest ... Artest, Tony Allen ... who else ?

"Dead weight & Okayish defense when he feels like It" ... you gotta be kidding me. Not everyone can be a Rodman !

... Had to stick up for my guy.

... Didn't think LA would trade Fisher ! And It seemed like Walton had been there forever ! ... They did good on keeping Gasol too.

The game where Durant goes for 33 points on 12-22 shooting? Damn, imagine if Ron wasn't locking him down! He'd have 60 points! :)
Hey I give credit where it's due, and he was a huge reason for the championship ring a couple of years ago. But when your averaging career lows in every single category...man, it's time to cut him lose.

Definately DO NOT cut this guy loose. He's a veteran now yes, which means he coasts a bit through the season and gets up for the playoffs. He also keeps the defensive assignments off Kobe Bryant. Career lows??? So what, means nothing when you're on a championship level team.

Lakers looking like they're in with a chance, only the Spurs or OKC could beat them in the West.

okc are not going to beat either the spurs or lakers in the west. The spurs were home in the west until the lakers off loaded fisher. shattered...

Of course I'm backing the Spurs over the Lakers, But........ That would be a very tough series. Kobe wants no. 6 bad, T.D wants no. 5 bad!!!

Could be both of their last chances at another ring before these young bucks start putting them on their fingers.

For the more statistical minded users, some food for thought:

Out of 59 of the qualified small forward positions, Ron is the 7th lowest rated in terms of player efficiency rating and out of 338 of the qualified NBA players, Ron is ranked 26th lowest for PER.
Yes, there are 312 players with a higher efficiency rating than Ron.

Ron makes one steal a game, and turns the ball over once a game. No contribution there.

He grabs 3 rebounds a game which ranks him 143rd out of 196 players qualified and the 6th worst rebounder amongst small forwards.

The argument is that hey, defensive specialists have a place in the NBA. However, they all did something that was not just off the stats sheet, but tangible statistics that were recordable. They were league leaders in rebounders (Rodman, Ben Wallace), they were shot blockers (Mutombo, Ibaka), and made steals (Mookie Blaylock, Gary Payton) and if all else failed, at least they shot the ball well by taking sensible shots! Rodman 52 percent shooter career, 47 percent for Ben Wallace. Ron? 34 percent from the field (career 41 percent) and 25 percent from three, and 55 percent from the free throw.

Food for thought anyway.

Maybe that's this year but Ron Artest when he's on is TOUGH as hell. His 1 turnover probably comes in a meaningless 2nd quarter whereas his 1 steal probably comes in the last minute against the best scorer on that team.

If Lakers don't want him, Spurs will take him. Oh wait, we just got our own Defensive bad boy back in Stephen Jackson :) Where is he ranked??? Probably next to Ron this year.

Bring on the playoffs, where 280 of those players with the higher efficiency will be watching Ron and Jack go to work from their couch.

What about Danny Green!!! Unbelievable defender, that can put up the 3 ball too!!

I'm starting to think we need to make an 'Official Spurs thread'... we seem to be talking more Spurs in here than Lakers!

Sounds like a job for you Adam. Spurs Thread, do it!!! :)

Kobe needs to stop thinking about getting HIS 6th ring and play some team ball, that is all....

lol if u think about it its kinda a stupid comment. Kobe will never get close to a 6th ring without playing team ball. I really think even Kobe knows this, i do agree that he needs to slow down his shooting tho.

Wow, this thing has'nt been bumped for a while.

exzibit3 may want to watch how Artest is playing game 4. SEASON STATS MEAN NOTHING, ask Lebron the MVP.

Kobe shoots 2-10 in the 4th and then blames his teammates. He'd be a pleasure to play with...

Yeah tough call. I mean, when you sort of rely on 1 guy, they get caught watching him a bit, then he gives it up and they make a mistake.

Kobe was going 1 out for alot of the 4th, took some average shots. But he hit some tough ones throughout the game.

I thought Artest hit some massive shots and he was very pesky on D.

OKC just look so strong mentally, they really were'nt playing well and then Durant and Westbrook got it done. Awesome team.

Artest is shooting 32 percent and averaging 11 points in the playoffs. His counterpart Kevin Durant is shooting 54 percent and averaging 27 a game. Wasn't he meant to be the premier lock down defender? The Lakers are down 3-1, enough said. You can continue thinking that he's an asset to the team, I beg to differ.
