That trade has come out of Phoenix of course and is woeful! There is NO WAY that deal goes thru and with the power and spread of the net and media the rumours get more ridiculous each year. If anyone gets traded its the expiring contract of someone like Scal.
That would be a bad trade for boston, giving up an allstar and a future allstar point guard for a guy that gets injured every season about lol
For the past few days we've been hearing rumors that the Boston Celtics might be willing to part with Ray Allen before the start of the 2009-2010 season. HOOPSWORLD asked around in Chicago, where the majority of NBA executives were taking a look at most of the first round draft prospects, and managed to find out a few more details. We have now added to those, with the help of WEEI's Jessica Camerato in Boston.
Off the record, we have several sources telling us that Ray Allen is, indeed, on the block. It's easy to make the leap, as the Celtics have managed to develop some nice young talent around their Big Three while also managing to win a championship. They might have even repeated had Kevin Garnett been healthy. It's not a stretch to say the Celtics would part with Allen, who has an ending contract next season, if they could add another top young player to the mix.
On the record we have an added wrinkle - one that we thought to be highly unlikely until we found it reported with a quote attributed to Celtics GM Danny Ainge. It seems the Celtics are willing to package Rajon Rondo with Allen to make the right deal happen
"He's stubborn," Ainge told ESPN's Jackie MacMullen. "He doesn't always take direction well. He's very bright and knows what he needs to do to be successful. But sometimes he doesn't understand what the team needs to be successful."
Doc Rivers expressed similar sentiments, which he directed at Rondo himself earlier this season.
"Do you know your teammates hate playing with you? ... The point guard has to be the guy that brings energy to the team. You can't be the guy that sucks it away. Your moodiness is affecting us. Change it."
At the same time, Rondo has guys like Paul Pierce and Kendrick Perkins saying he's their leader and they believe in him. And while there is a great deal to be said for patience and seeing if Rondo will improve as much next season as he did in 2008-09, there is certainly a lot of negativity coming from the decision-makers - enough to fuel trade speculation.
The latest rumor making its way around - and we're not hearing that there is any truth to it, on or off the record - has the Phoenix Suns sending Amar'e Stoudemire (of course) to the Celtics in a package for Rondo and Allen, with Leandro Barbosa also included in the deal.
So . . .who gets benched? Kevin Garnett? Kendrick Perkins? You're talking about the best defensive front court in the NBA a season ago. Sitting Perkins removes a strong defender and replaces him with a true defensive screen door.
There is definitely some truth to the idea that the Celtics would move Ray Allen - and maybe even Rajon Rondo - if the right deal came along. As for the Suns coming up with the right deal, that seems highly unlikely.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that assistant Tom Thibodeau withdrew himself from consideration from the head coaching job with the Sacramento Kings.
Thibodeau, who also interviewed for the Philadelphia 76ers job, is expected to rejoin the Celtics bench next season.
Seems Rondo is chasing the money and Ray is still worth a bit so we are shopping him looking to the future. Thats not a bad trade at all but you can see whey the Pistons said no to it.
Rondo has come out and said he wants to play in Boston but I just don't know. It would be a huge shame to lose this kid so early on in career when we put so much faith in him starting him from very early on a vet team. Anyone that watched the Bulls series will see why clubs rate him in the top 5 PG's in the game.
Ainge knows our window is small and has said he wont sacrifice the now for the future. A healthy KG means a healthier PP come playoff time and we contend once more and a serious threat to the title. Ainge has also said he wouldn't take most 1st rounders over JR G and Walker so I don't think they are going anywhere especially with the impending delisting or trading of Tony Allen.
Rondo would be a HUGE loss but some players treat it as a business and others don't. Rondo should stay and Ainge said we want him. He would also know he will inherit this team when the big three moves on. The development of JR and Walker is crucial for the comming year. I hope both are in the gym as I type.
Ray I fear is gone but if we get something of decent value for Ray and his contract it may pay to be the right move. People are fickle and bag Ray but then jump up and down when he hits 51pts in the playoffs and many many many game winners each season. He played hurt in the playoffs and that didn't help his shooting as it took out his legs and every shooter knows the legs are the most important part of getting your shot on.
Ainge is great at smokescreens so we can't assume anything.
Rodo may or may not go.
Ray will prob go.
We may only draft at 58 or pull off some big draft day deal
We may just only wait for FA and pull out the checkbook to get help
Marbury?
Have we seen the last of Scal?
Who knows and the 2010 FA and economy makes it all the more complicated.
Chad Ford's Analysis:
Draft Projection: Late first to early second
Positives:
# Big-time scorer
# Very quick
# Good athlete with good strength
# Amazing getting the ball to the basket
# A good shooter with NBA 3-point range
# Has a good feel for the game and can play the point guard position
# Excellent rebounder for his size
# An excellent pickpocket, among the nation's leaders in steals.
Negatives:
# Turned 24 years old in August
# Has had very little exposure against top competition
# Turns the ball over a lot
# A bit of a tweener
Summary: His strong performances in 2007-08 against top teams like Memphis, Vanderbilt and Mississippi State had scouts wondering whether he can make the jump. The talent suggests yes. His age and a so-so performance at the Orlando pre-draft camp says no. Given his age, he's a likely second-rounder this season.
Like I've said already, another Eddie House.
Jr, Walker and this guy could end up replacing House, Tony Allen and Gabe Pruitt just nicely.
I assume a big man is coming via FA now we didn't draft size. Perk is one hug away from a career ending shoulder injury.
Trading for Amare is a risk with his body but can you imagine he alongside Perk and KG! It doesn't really fit the frontline though as all three aint a SF. Most trades have involved Rondo and getting a fair player back for Rondo and his potential is the hard part.
I can see JR and Bill Walker really developing this year though in Celts green rather than the D league just like BBD did. Good young core group of players despite with Laker fans think.
Perk
Rondo are already team USA type players
BBD
Powe are already proven and stand up
JR
Walker are both players and will have good careers
Marbury might be gone now with that pick if we sign him and want him to play and save cash. Not a big deal if JR contributes like I anticipate.
I'd say not wanting to trade Allen to an Eastern conf team is a sticking point. He being that extra vet on another foe isn't what we want even with a healthy KG and Powe back.
Amare might come in a package for BBD if Powe comes back alright. Scal is then expendible too with his expiring contract as well.
Well Powe and BBD play the same role and spot. BBD added an outside shot but Powe is a better rebounder. I know this for sure, Powe is cheaper to keep and is their game that different to justify a great difference in salary.
What else do we need to get this deal done? Ray Allen as well but Amare and more coming?
