The Official BOSTON CELTICS thread

Puts us WAY over the cap and paying a load of tax.

That's where the problems lies, the Suns trying to make room for the big free agency run, in turn are sheding big contracts and trying to dish them off via trades. Mind you, a healthey BBD on the Suns woould be better than having Amare imo. at the same time, wouldn't mind seeing Barbossa with the c's!

Well Eddie House is back! Pretty cheap and when he is on he is just about the hottest shooter in the league no doubt. His defense improved and so to his ability to break a press.

House Will Continue To Call Boston Home

Celtics guard Eddie House, after a long deliberation that pushed his decision to today’s deadline, decided to exercise his player option and will remain with the team for next season.

As a result, the nine-year veteran will roam the 3-point line to the tune of approximately $2.9 million next season.

Starbury will stay for a lower paypacket.

Marbury will be an unrestricted free agent beginning tomorrow and is excited about the possibility of making a title run again next season.

Celtics coach Doc Rivers has said he hopes Marbury will be back.

"I’m not trying to get a bunch of money,’’ Marbury said. "I know Boston doesn’t have a bunch of money. I’m not seeking out teams with more money. I want to play for a championship-contending team. I can’t play for a young team that’s not in a position to compete for a championship.

"I want to play in Boston. I’m not going to say that I don’t. But I know the way that business works. If I don’t come back it won’t be because of me.’’

And the Celts are major frontrunners in the bid to sign Rasheed Wallace. Who would of thought that any team would take on Starbury AND Wallace but I guess this team is the only one that could.

As we told you last week on Sports Tonight the Celtics would love to get Rasheed Wallace to come off the bench this year. As we grow closer to the post July 1st NBA free agent signing period the chances of Rasheed wearing green this coming season are very good.

He is good friends with Keving Garnett and he has a great interest in coming here.

My gut tells me Rasheed Wallace will be come a Celtic soon.

Good to see house back! Lights it up off the bench, great perimeter scorer, and for less than $3m a season, a bargain! If Starbury can get a full preseason under his belt, he also will be dangerous, and might gain some valuable confidence that he's lacking. Sheed would also be awesome, huge front court of KG, Sheed and Perk. They have also made a qualifying offer to BBD, not sure of the amount but can tell you it's more than the $711,000 he's currently on! If he stays, and they get sheed also, the c's will be stacked up front!

Don't forget we get Powe 'The Laker killer' back also ;-)

So the 'new' Celts from last years playoffs have added KG, Powe, Wallace and up to scratch Marbury. Certainly a team that can play inside and out.

And very atheletic might I add! Should make an interesting playoffs next season!

BBD isn't needed if we have Sheed. And I'm not putting my future hopes on BBD leading us to a title down the road like Rondo could with help. So lets chase that pot of gold now. All we need to do is get out of the East as then you only have to face the the Lakers not the Magic shooting the lights out and Cavs.

Rondo is crucial imo, and I pray that the C's do not let him go any time soon! Pg's like him are priceless, and he can only improve imo. If he improves next season, even by just 10%, he will be phenomenal!

Not paying BBD 5M and up year after year will help. Of course we need to get the FA help to balance out. FA's wont get as much this year and of course taking a pay cut to play for a contender is always a sweetener

I think the C's should take a look at Alex Acker, played in Europe for a year or so after being drafted, think he was signed by the Clips but hardly got any time. The kid is loaded and reminds me of PP. A bargain and should be considered!

Can't beleive I'm bumping the Celts thread...

From Hoopsworld.com

HOOPSWORLD

Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce joined president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and managing partner Wyc Grousbeck for a three-hour meeting with Wallace in Detroit yesterday, the Celtics offering a contract using their midlevel exception. But Wallace is apparently in no hurry to respond, preferring to weigh approaches from Charlotte, Cleveland, Orlando, and San Antonio, according to an NBA source.

Bill Strickland, Wallace’s agent, said in a text message that it was a “very good meeting; some contractual terms discussed, nothing agreed to.’’

Strickland added Wallace will be “meeting with a few more teams next week.’’

How long does it take 3 superstars to beg another superstar to come to Boston? 3 hours, that's how long. And even then, nothing is certain.

I'm guessing it involved more pool, beers and finger foods than 3 hours of face to face negotiations ;-)

The thought of Mike Sweetney to fill BBD if he leaves or Powe is even more disturbing AND Ainge's man crush of ALL TIME Robert Swift looking for a roster spot too...

Here's the blurb from the Boston Globe:

The Boston Celtics have reached an agreement with Rasheed Wallace, according to a source.

Wallace is expected to get a two-year deal using the mid-level exception (expected to be about $5.6 million to $5.8 million).

Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce, owner Wyc Grousbeck, coach Doc Rivers, and president Danny Ainge met with Wallace last week. Wallace turned down overtures from Orlando and San Antonio to commit to Boston.

Well that's a huge signing! =D>

Also read this morning they are eager to sign Grant Hill!

Good work by the C's signing Sheed, they're gonna have a killer lineup next year, and with Ron Ron in LA, gonna be very interesting next season! Can't wait to see a healthy Powe back too, really like the way he plays!

Massive Celts fan here.

Excited by the signing of Rasheed should be a great fit especially on the defensive side of the ball and as said above with Powe, Davis and Garnett all healthy that makes for a heck of a rotation of big men.

man i hope this was a good move. hope he can fill the role they want him for.
at least it shows faith from KG/Pierce/Ray if they all went round his family's place or whatever to try to get him to play
