Telling Someone not to bid on an Item on Ebay

For once Shoes makes sense

If they found out about the auction by you telling them (although it was foolish to do so) I'd be majorly pissed.

Thats like you pointing out a hot girl at a bar and then he leaving the table and going to chat her up and taking her home

And if a card like this is bought and then flipped straight away to the other collector for an unreasonable profit THEN Admin would have something to say about it.

If it stays in his PC then its just he being a 'not nice bloke' and I doubt he will be on the recieving end of any ozcards Karma in the future and we all know that can be VERY rewarding.

aww chad I feel all warm and fuzzy lol

Remember the Pau gasol you got Nanda Linn Aung I was gonna have a bid on aswell good on ya got it cheap , I told you another one would come through and so I got it aswell , ive seen ozballer23 bidding on a card (gerald wallace 3 colour auto patch rookie) I wanted but I bid higher and I still lost I would of rather him win it then the guy who did some times im happy people win it from Oztrader. Least you still get to see it and there might be an off chance you can get the card another day.=D>

Hi,

yes, i remember that...

the funny thing is, that package was one of the mails i lost recently too :(
actually, i lost another important card for set from that package as well.. maybe i didn't deserve it...

for me, i am okay with anyone outbid me.. so please feel free to do so, if you didn't, i also appreciate it, there are many guys who didn't outbid me for the cards i bid, but i am collecting autos, so i usually cross bid with fellow members... and i hardly have any problems or usually it's all sorted out...

but i am happy if anyone from here won the card, it basically shows that there's someone who value more than i could afford... i even got outbid my pc cards from members here, and i never once felt bad about it, coz they could pay more, meaning they deserve it, i will always pay what i can pay too...

my perception with ebay is, if i don't win, there will always be a better card out there, so i am not so serious about it, unless someone does this to make profit or conditional trade bait....

I agree with a lot you have said Linn but having more money doesn't mean you deserve something more. it just means you've got more money....

Lol, its all about how much you want it. If someone wants to buy and resell they can. But If they can't resell it then that person has a card they don't want. So sucked in.

In answer to the thread title, you can "ask" anyone to do anything (within reason) that you like, as long as you do it politely. That person can either agree or disagree with you. As far as "telling" someone to do something, that is less acceptable in most circumstances.

In the case of placing a bid on a public auction, there should be no problem with someone "asking" another person to hold back on bidding, but as far as "telling" goes, that may only be OK, for example, for a parent to do to their dependent child. You are more likely to oblige in holding off on a bid if someone asked you politely anyway, if someone tells you to do something against your will then the rebellious aspect of human nature dictates that you will be more likely to do it!

Not sure if this point has been cleared up yet, but the "karma" chadjaja was referring to was the goodwill of ozcard members to help out other members with their PC needs. He was saying that people who intentionally setback the PC collections of others for personal gain will be less likely to be on the receiving end of this ozcards goodwill.

It does suck when peoples collecting hobbies clash.

I know for one, being an avid set/theme collector, I cross paths with many individuals on my collecting goals.
And the only reason I don't get a million and 1 questions on why I got a card, is because my fellow hobbiest know I don't sell cards often and only buy for sets and player PCs.

In the end, e-bay is all fair game and highest bidder wins.

I hear the story goes something like this...the member contacted u to aquire your card..and he told you he was also watching one the same on ebay, then within a few mins u had bid on the one he told you about on ebay ....

Well done =D> =D> =D> =D>

I wouldn't expect any members to be sharing auction links or thoughts with you again though  Now you have two of them and the other member none :v:

I hope you feel good about it too buddy....good way to make a first impression here

So we got half of the members sayin "Bid what u want Ebay's fair game" and the other half saying "Don't rock the boat"

Lets be fair

Those of you who don't like being outbid, PM me your ebay ID and I will not outbid you?

Will that suffice?

I think you're reading what you want mate. The only conjecture here is that you outbid the guy whom showed you the auction. If someone shows you a link and they are clearly wanting it and that is the only way you even knew about the auction, it's just common courtesy not to outbid the guy. If you have both found the auction and want it, bidding wars will happen and doesn't matter, this one was different because of the way you found the auction (going by what I can gather, and you haven't argued about at all, were the circumstances)

I'd argue against that, I have bid on other cards of the same player (non patches) and I have bid on other patches. Pretty much I have been taking a close look at "anything" UD Black of late. If the other party says that I am, let them contact me directly or say so here and I am sure we can sort it out.

Not talking about others, we're talking about the 1 that you started this thread for. Apparently you only found it cause the other member showed you, then you outbid him?

Thats pretty much what happened Ben...The other person involved sent me a PM telling me what happened and thats about it....and i tend to believe the other guy as he's a trusted member as Shoes pointed out earlier in the thread

Thought so, was just trying to get his thinking down to the point at hand ;)

Ok well to resolve this, I will offer the card to the party in question for no more than what I paid and apologise right now.

I think that;'s fair?

All he has to do is PM me, and it's his.
