Potential New Melbourne Trading Card Shop!

Overheads are a killer for a trading card business, especially for prime CBD locations. You're almost better doing a permanent online business and set up a temporary stall at the markets during the weekends to sell boxes, singles and supplies.
Yeah I've been looking into the finer logistics of the possibility of running such a business and the overheads are starting to accumulate I've found, I agree that a pure online business would be more feasible (at least in the beginning) but still looking into it.

Really sick of having to pay ridiculously marked up prices for boxes, packs, etc here in AUS and there's nowhere to gather with other collectors easily to trade, etc...My business partner and I will be meeting in a few days to discuss our findings and go from there.

Any further developments regarding the new store (if it goes ahead) will be posted here as soon as they develop! We're with you guys and are very appreciative and thankful for your support!

where about in the west burbs are we talking about if you dont mind me asking .

bring it on we need some good deals why should we pay $100 plus just for postage when buying from america not viable when i need a 40-80 doller box.

good luck in the endeavor.:)

to see if i can get more hits on this with just this many replys it wont go ahead its just not enough of a customer base

yeah but what we want is to have a place for people to come a trade buy and sell cards like the good old days

id love to visit a hobby shop with nba cards at a decent price, and decent customer service if you can get a place with cheap rent i think it would work.

yeah rent wont be a problem because it will be in my garage but it will be set up like a shop and if it takes off and we get enough money we will go into a shop front and from the start we will have an online store.

This seems like a good idea and you will save money by not having to pay rent to some landlord but have you also thought about such things as import taxes and gst that needs to be paid on any items valued at over $1000 coming into the country.

What about the fluctuating exchange rate, that is surely a big killer.

You would also need to seriously consider insurance both for the stock you have on hand and public liabilty insurance for people entering your property.

Love your idea, I think all card collectors would crave something like this.

Another issue you may have is running a business out of a residential property though?

Sorry not trying to bring you down at all, but you will need to get the low down on all of these little type of things. I'm sure all at Ozcards will hope you can get this off the ground.

there is a free trade agreement with the us at the moment so i wont have to pay the 5% duty but yes i will have to pay the gst which is only 10% now if i get $10000.00 it only $1000 more which will be spread across the lot.
The stock insurance wont be an issue because it will come under my contents insurance now for public liability insurance i can put up sign say enter at own risk.
Now to running out of a house my council wont mind as long as i ask the neighbours about the traffic and if it a yes to all then theres no probs.

mmmmm i would confirm some of that stuff, im no lawyer but it don't sound right....
Also if your prices are low as you say, you wont have a problem selling, but if your banking on opening a shop front soley on how many responses you get here, i would reconsider and just stick to online shopping, which would cater for all member on this site, i'm from Sydney so i may visist YOUR shop front maybe once a every 2 years others who are interstate may never visist, where as online i could visist daily...
