The small part isn't the worst bit, means you can store them easier. The main thing to remember is these are designed with kids and their families in mind, so they went with the micro figure aspect because they're compatible with the Legos most kids already have, they're affordable and they're able to be played with as opposed to the Select figures that are basically mini statues. While i agree that some micro players look nothing like their real-life counterparts, others (Sam Burgess comes to mind) are freakishly accurate. And yes, I agree they may have overstocked the past 2 years, but having 2014's lower stock and high promotion doesn't work. There needs to be at least enough to go around, and some people do choose to wait because they know they clear out at the end of the year.
The thing with the Select figures is they just weren't affordable. Most blind box figures have maybe 24 maximum in a set, and you can tell what you're getting due to the way the box is layed out. With these each set has double the average maximum not even including the golds, had no indicators of who you were getting, so completing a whole set would've been a pain, also considering the postage costs of online swaps.
They're nice figures and I wouldn't mind getting a few Rabbitohs ones at some point but a set like that only really benefits a small sector of hardcore collectors as opposed to the Micro Figures which have appealed to a majority of collectors with casual and regular collectors.
I personally would try and pick up a few if they did a new figure series like Select's (ESP said last year they were considering bobbleheads made with the assistance of face-scanning technology) but the Micro Figures just seem to have more advantages over the Select figures.

Sounds like a good time to stock up. From what I could see they would look goo in albums.
Never had any interest in them but seeing album & now figurines now only $0.50 might buy a couple of boxes. Are albums for one series or for all?

The album will fit all 3 series, which includes 4 golds, 12 young stars and 44 commons (3 from each team except Sharks, Dragons, Tigers and Raiders who have 2 each)

I usually do anywhere from 2 to 4 classics for Young Star. Depends on the other person.
Man of the Match I'd say $5-$10 ($15 is a little stretch but doable), Young Stars $3-$5 and your Classics anywhere from 50c to $2.
Do you have Corey Oates - Jake Trojevic - Ethan Lowe -Junior Paulo - Dallin Watene-Zelezniak -Sione Mata'Utia all Young Stars..
They are the only ones I need to finish off my set. Have heaps of Classic Players from all 3 Series

I have all the figures I need, but I do have Oates, Paulo and Mata'utia. Only Young Stars I have spare though.
I'm going away for the next few days but I can still hold them, but a few out-of-the-way Coles like Toronto still had a fair bit of micro-merch left. If you check those you might be able to get more cheap figures
