My Year Long Paypal Experiment

Well I downloaded it into Excel (which I don't have but got it to work) and... I'm a bit shocked... admittedly SOME purchases were not for me, and I have had a couple of sales, but...

25/2/09 - 25/2/10:

-10867.35 ($US)

haha classic... i spent $15,000 but it was on a holiday for 3 months. i prefer the latter to cardboard.

Ah but my paypal expenditure is ONLY on ebay or for other card/memorabilia purchases, and generally funded by my credit card. I really really really would not want to know how much I have put on my credit card over that year... glad I have a high limit and get bonus points from it...

Ok, from scratch:

Log in to Paypal.
Click 'view all of my transactions'.
It must be on 'All activity' and click on the calendar which dates you want to range.
Click on 'Download CSV' on the right.
Select from the dropdown box 'Comma delimited - Completed payments'.
Let it do its thing for however many minutes....
Open with Excel.
Then (the fun part), manually go through and delete all of the positive amounts, leaving only the negatives which are what you spent.
Then, click somewhere and type =sum and then click on the first amount in the amount column and then click the last amount in the amount column, then type a closed bracket and it should give you the horrible total...

Sweet man, thanks. I don't have Excel but hopefully Benny can help me out ;)

If you don't have Excel, you should download Openoffice from openoffice.org. It is freeware Office suite that was made to challenge Microsoft office as an Office Suite. Just as good but free. You can open all the different Office documents with it.

I dare not announce to everyone how much I spent. A bit embarrassed.....I feel a bit foolish spending so much on cards! And Paypal is not all.....also have my credit card which I have charged all my Exquisite cases on.

Let me just say I spent between $4-5k in 2 months on Paypal........add a case of 09/10 Exquisite and a few cases of 08/09 Exquisite (don't remember how many now) and you'll get the idea.

Let me just say I am happy that the AUD did not stay in the US$0.60's for very long in 2008 when the GFC hit.

The worst thing is the majority of that was on Augustin's

And the sad part is that you have probably only gotten 1/6 return on the cards from those boxes, or maybe worse..?

With ebay thesedays, boxes are the worst way to try to get cards that you want, you can only open them for the fun/thrill and write off the money spent!!
