John Ireland Caricature Trading Cards - The Eagle Has Landed!

I don't quite know where to begin. I'm guessing John's now retired publisher handled all the hard work of printing, distribution, handling royalties etc etc. All comes down to what a publisher can offer an established artist such as John. Can they just step in and look after all aspects, perhaps even financing, or do we go down the path of self-publishing by simply paying a printer to do the work and finding our own means to handle sales and everything else?

Some basic quotations via personal message for 1000 - 5000 copies, or even someone pointing us in the direction of someone who can provide some advice on how to go about this task would be really useful :)

Leave it with me mate

Don't get my hopes up here mate!!!

It's all in Phil's hands now :D If he becomes a regular member of the test team for the next 12 months, the odds are good, especially if we can get him to lend his signature to the project :)

By the way, the latest on this front is that we're going to put the book project aside for now and focus on the trading cards. It will take probably another 12 months for John to draw up the remaining caricatures and for me to organise signatures, if possible.

If I cannot get any of the current players to sign, I'm seriously thinking we'll go back to approaching the older/retired players and draw up new caricatures for them as "Legends", as I'd rather have their signatures in the set than not have any at all.

Brilliant idea Naz, I reckon the Legends are for some reason more easily recognisable in caricatures (like that one of Viv you have for example)..I think it would be a brilliant set.

I like the idea of the legends. Walsh and Ambrose to name a couple, they seem to have been good for signing at the card fair!

I did speak with the promotor who was working with them this time around. He said he'd be trying to get them back to Oz again in the new year and would definitely see what he can do to assist - so there is some hope on that front - we'll see what happens!

Just to whet everyone's appetite ....

The project is still on track. John Ireland has sketched out the 10-12 additional players I requested. Still needs to colour them in etc, but according to John, the hard work is done! Can't wait to see his Dale Steyn. Wonder if he used the "angry eyes" or not :)

Not having much luck with finding cricketers to officially sign some trading cards when they are ready. Have stuck these under the noses of probably a dozen cricketers so far, without much interest. If the signatures are a no-go, I will ensure we do something special with the release. Maybe include some limited edition cards that only a lucky few will get - maybe 100 / 1000.

The plan is to go to print mid-2014. Money has been set aside, so nothing stopping us but a bit of courage! :)

Good on Don Bradman for getting involved mate :-)

Wow, am made up for ya (as the Poms would say) - this could be the springboard to success Naz!

No Matty, it's not Dermot Reeve. If this comment puzzles you, google Reeve and his interaction with the Bradman Foundation ;)
Thanks for the good wishes fellas.

It's been very difficult to get someone on board and I'm absolutely stoked. Just need 3-4 more players to lend a hand, so the hard work is still in front of me, but I'm not giving up that's for sure :)

I scored a 50 back in my teenager days (concrete wicket dropped twice), would be happy to sign for no fee, hit me up
I was also a pretty good wicketkeeper (when I had a longstop)
Every deck needs a joker or wild card
