Bootleg Cards - your thoughts

There is a lot of things produced or made without a copyright or license from the nrl. Are we going to bag everyone that has had a go at produced items that has pictures of the nrl or cards. Even if it helps the industry.

I think this is appalling that the players don't get any royalties from these bogus cards, this should be Taffy Smith's No. 1 priority to stamp these bootleggers out of the game for once and all.

The players still do not get royalties from the cards that are released today. The only ones that get paid are for the signature cards

How on earth does it help the industry? It helps line the guys back pocket that makes them, that's about it.
It is good to see more that the run of the products available. More choice more competition. If you think these guys are making loads of money. I have to ask you how much would it cost you to produce these cards. Please add your labour in to the cost. I dont think these guys that produce cards books and other products that are not the run of the mill are making much after there cost.

 I'm sure it's breaking the bank!

So are they legitimate or not?, the seller is from the UK so I would assume that the Pommy fans share our passion in card collecting and that these have been produced by a professional outfit.

There are a number of these sets and they are backyard jobs. I do not classify them as being licensed cards and will not be putting them in my next book edition. There was another couple of sets which I bought believing they were licensed from aus and they proved to be fakes. They were the limited edition tigers ones. Who cares if they is only 50 sets produced, they are still rubbish.

This is only my opinion, cards to be worth collecting need to be endorsed by the league or club, not by someone doing them at home. I am noticing more and more of these copyright infringements which seem to be allowed to sell on ebay. Other noticable ones are the envelopes with dodgy printing on them, the fake stamps, the fake notes.

Are you planning on making some or have you made some...
What they're doing is illegal(images of players in jersey, NRL/Club badges etc are all the property of the ARLC), they're motivated by making some money, they can see a market and they're exploiting it until they get caught...

I'm the same, I bought the 2002 and 2003 Knights sets back in the day, and felt like I'd been ripped off. One of the cards even had an image that obviously hadn't downloaded correctly, coz it was blurry as hell.

If he wanted to produce his own cards and actually grow the hobby then there are legal and effective ways to go about it - just look at the Footycards AFL set from last year.

I felt the same with the two tigers sets I bought. I contacted the seller who assured me they were official cards from Topps produced overseas after I asked a few times. After finding out later through other channels that he made them himself I felt like I was robbed. It is not right.

Again Select and now ESP pay a lot of money for their right to produce cards. Why should these people be allowed to get away with it. Most of the cases seem to indicate they are immune from the law because the cards are being produced overseas.

As a mad Tigers fan I bought a set of the extremely rare TOPPS cards 'produced' by ebay seller Goldenpointautographs, when I recieved them I was sceptical enough to look at the TOPPS website to see any evidence that they were a genuine product, couldn't find anything, had a look at the feedback left for the seller I noted that another 'customer' felt the same way in his feedback.
Thus when I saw that Goldenpointautographs has produced another bogus set I declined to bid on them, it makes even the signature cards he sells to be of dubious origin, won't be going back there.

Here's a link to the Topps website where you can get cards made.

Making cards for your own personal use I don't have any issue with, but when you then market them as something they are not and take advantage of people that is an issue.....its that simple!

They are not limited because I could print the same cards and number them as well....
