2014 AFL Season - Spoilers Inside

Brent Harvey offered 1 week by the MRP. North Melbourne have announced that they will appeal the decision.

Also, Justice Middleton will announce his ruling on the ASADA investigation on Friday at 1:30pm AEDST.

It wouldn't be Prelim finals week without a touch of controversy!!

I still think the best is to come with this whole asada stuff.
I think a few players will walk out the door come trade/free agency time

So anyone else find it hilarious for Goddard of all people to pass judgement on other clubs for poaching players? :D
He was talking about encouraging players to break their contracts under the duty of care cause, in Essendon's case. Nothing wrong with poaching players via Free Agency, I mean, that's what it's for.

A situation they brought on themselves.
Still doesn't make it alright to encourage a player to go via this route, regardless of whether the club brought it upon them-self.

Like I said, Goddard was picked up via free agency, and he was making a comment on players being encouraged to break their contract under the duty of care clause. Two different scenarios.

So the club can do wrong by the players, thus activating the clause, yet you expect everyone to keep their hands off?

In a world where players will cast aside loyalty for more money at a bigger club, I see it as the same s--- with a different stink. Afterall, they wont activate the clause for less money.

And I can guarantee you the agents representing these players are putting out the feelers just as much as rival list managers are circling.

Why else have they not stated their commitment to the club?

The reason I expect everyone else to keep their hands off because they don't know the full financial and legal extent of the situation. I have no problems with players leaving for more money via trade or free agency, seeing as they have a limited window as an AFL footballer to make as money as they can, and to set themselves up comfortably for their family and the rest of their life. But in Ryder's case, there are too many factors to consider such as the current ASADA case which is ongoing, having to prove that his duty of care was breached (further legal and court processes) & his current contract status at Essendon. For a competing club to encourage him to go via this route, is very risky and negligent as it isn't very clear cut, whether he will be able to win each process and move elsewhere. I have no doubt this is a ploy in part, by his management to perhaps get better terms after a successful season.

Extra food for thought - Would players then be able to activate this cause under less prolific circumstances such as when they're rushed back from injury sooner rather than the expected recovery time? The Matthew Egan case is a very interesting one.

The All-Australian team is named tonight - I can post the team here as it is announced if anyone would like me to. The AA team takes on a "controversy corner" all of its own......I can't see what the fuss is about to be honest, as a supporter it is just a bit of a novelty.

How are the other supporters of Hawthorn, Port Adelaide, North Melbourne and Sydney feeling ahead of the Prelim Finals?

I said before that this is just a great, great week to be a football supporter - exciting, nerve-wracking, thrilling......and that's even when your team isn't involved!

As a Hawker I remember the last three Prelim finals vividly - a three point loss to Collingwood, a five point win over Adelaide and a five point win over Geelong.

After what happened to me this time last year, I have really enjoyed each of Hawthorn's wins this season - watching last years Prelim Final could quite easily have been one of the last things I actually did in my life. I can guarantee that there is far more to life than footy!

As a Hawthorn supporter Really Really excited but once it gets closer to the game i will be nervous. I will be cheering my heart out at the game!!!! Are you going to the game as well @Matty76 ? Prelim final weekend is the best I reckon, All the supporters/members of the club are there not just all rich corporates as it is for the Grand Final. Also it is just a very exciting time as you said. When we got up last year in the prelim, It was that loud, No-one could hear the siren!!! That was probably the best game I have been to.

I've only ever been to one game of footy @hawkstarcards15 - I am so short-sighted that I saw f**k-all, even when looking up at the big screen! :-)

You are spot on about last year, thank goodness Hawthorn were in front when the siren went as I think from memory Cyril Rioli passed to Buddy Franklin AFTER the siren had gone, obviously not having heard it.

Now I may be somewhat biased but...

How in the world did Eric Mackenzie get overlooked?! IMO easily the best one-on-one defender, never lost a contest. Very rarely had many goals kicked on him (in fact, most of his opponent's goals occurred when he was off the ground). Huge oversight, but it means he will stay unnoticed and underrated.
