2014 AFL Season - Spoilers Inside

I am really interested in people's views - and let's just assume for the point of the exercise that Sydney win tonight - on the controversial Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) that the Swans are allowed in their salary cap. Although it will be phased out and replaced with a "rental assistance" type scheme, it does currently allow the Swans to add an extra 9.8% in their total salary cap.

It of course has caused enormous controversy (mostly in Melbourne) but as a member or supporter of a footy club, what would you rather?

An extra 9.8% in the cap and 10 interstate games each season (as Sydney have)

or

13 games in Melbourne, 4 in your Tasmanian stronghold and only 5 interstate trips (my beloved Hawks).

My point is that the teams that finished 1 and 2 on the ladder did so by completely different means.....so is the COLA really THAT big an advantage?

Your thoughts, ladies and gentlemen?

Personally I just think its unfair on the other teams. An AFL team these days does not need a special allowance because the cost of leaving is possibly higher. A player will go to the club they want to for money, more senior chances and chasing a premiership, and I don't think the cost of living would even come into their mind, and with a pay packet of anywhere between $200,000 and $700,000 why would it. Its not like they would be struggling to put food on the table. Sydney has been the AFL's love child for years, its time they were all on the same level.

Last of the big gamblers I'm not.......I have put $5 each way on Dyson Heppell (with my head) and $5 each way on Jordan Lewis (with my heart!) for the Brownlow Medal. Joel Selwood is the raging favourite it seems, probably fair enough too.

Crazy game, should have put the game to bed but credit to Port who fought hard and refused to quit. Can't help but think the Swans will be red hot favourites, a contrast of the 2012 Grand Final.

Have to say it but that holding the ball decisoon was the worst decision I have seen all year. At the stage of the game, with the time left on the clock I just cant believe they payed such a dodgy free kick

At the game last night and certainly the umpires were poor both ways in the last quarter!! A few dodgy/dubious free kicks paid to port in Q4. btw free kick count 21-17 ports way - Take nothing away from Port they were fantastic and the supporters were very loud indeed. They certainly Never ever gave up! But My HAWKS are into the Grand Final for the 3rd year in a row. Aiming for back to back but it will be very tough against a quality opponent in Sydney. But I believe Hawthorn can definitely win it!!!!!! GO HAWKS!!! #always #everymoment #backtoback

Did you watch the replay? The player being tacked made no attempt to try and get the ball out, just laid there. The worst decision I've ever seen was the free against Gibbo right in front of Ports goal, eyes on the ball, Port player ran into him not the other way round, just not sure what the umpire was thinking. Swung the momentum of the game. But Hawks won so that's all that matters.

Have a look at the 2:20 min mark of the video....just after Hodge smothers the Ebert kick......should there have been a free to Hodge for holding anyway (eg before the holding the ball against Jonas?).....

Spanger didn't have the ball but got done for holding the ball, Roughy didn't have the ball and gets tackled to the ground but no free, and the Gibbo free against was an absolute shocker. But no point getting angry at these decisions, just need to look forward to another chance at the big one.

(Port Adelaide Prelim game) Spangher and Ceglar really needed to stand up and take a few marks in the last quarter especially or at least make a presence. In the last quarter when Port were coming back we just couldn't keep it in our forward half. They will learn from it though and I'm sure if they play in the Grand Final I know they will try their hearts out!

Got some info today that the dees have offered dangerfield a massive contract and are willing to part with picks 2+3(frawley compo) to get him how do crows fans feel about that

I think crows might trade to saints for pick 1 or something like that.

I also heard a Threeway trade which sees Brisbane get Dwayne beams Collingwood get dangerfield and Adelaide getting pick 4 and Aish

I think Adelaide would prefer pick 2+3 to pick 1 pretty even draft not sure what else stkilda has that Adelaide would want, ahh I love this time of year

Melbourne could really use Dangerfield, might give them their first talented player since David Neitz :p
