Mitch Clark has also been linked with Collingwood. Talks about Clark for Harry O. Harry wants out and pies need another big forward so pretty much a win win i'd say. If Clark cant hack it and bows out again then pies would just be in the same spot as the Dees atm and could ask for a comp pick for him leaving. But id say where ever he goes there will be a clause in his contract for situations like this 1 atm.

heh, totally forgot Freo chased him once before and blew it and now Ross is feigning ignorance.

The Lumumba/Clark trade does make a tonne of sense. Injects some stable experience into the Dees and Clark provides the Pies with the Q-Stick replacement that White is struggling to be.

Hawks now denying they were ever on the hunt for Clark.

Joel Selwood, ducking, diving and over acting since 2007. Can be a good footballer but god dam he's a cheat! Really makes me angry when I watch him play.

Cue comments about how players should tackle him properly.

Only thing better than watching Geelong loose was watching Lindsay Thomas getting absolutely disrespected by the umpires. All that over acting had to catch up at some time. Great stuff.

Great win by North Melbourne! I'm happy Geelong is out!!, sick of them being in the finals and the media, the coach and Supporters love to tell you how many finals/grand finals they have won. Even the umps seem to love them. They are an arrogant club to me.

I think in years to come Geelong will be remembered favourably for their last eight years.....their best football was thrilling to watch, arguably as exciting as that played by them in the Ablett Snr era from 1989-1996 (as a footy romantic, I still believe that Ablett is the greatest player I have seen).

The interesting question is where do they go from here? Is it a fall and a rebuild, or selective recruiting and another top four finish next year?

I wish Joel Selwood played for Richmond...forget his career, the toughness he shows weekly, along with everything he's achieved but his last 2 weeks have been bloody epic. Absolute champion.

im with you benj I wish carlton took selwood instead of yarran in that draft the bloke is all heart gives it everything and more week in week out he is an out and out champion very similar to Michael voss which I also loved watching play , the cats have been absolutely great to watch for years but Brisbane of the early 2000's still my favourite team they beat you up mentally and physically and won when it counts

I think as a rule people these days get sick of champion teams and players pretty quickly.....Joel Selwood and Geelong's success has gone hand-in-hand since his debut in their premiership season of 2007. He has pretty much been at the forefront of their achievements for the last eight seasons, similar to Vossy at Brisbane.

Regarding the shrugging/ducking - it is the umpire's job to simply call "play on" if a player ducks into a tackle, as Sam Newman said a few weeks ago. Tom Lynch from the Crows was extremely lucky not do do himself a severe injury against Brisbane in the Home and Away season and it really needs to be enforced as a "buyer beware" rule...YOUR action, YOUR responsibility.

What Selwood does and what Lynch did aren't really the same though. Lynch bent over and put his head down to truck through a tackler.

Selwood spots a tackler and makes minute changes to his body position - drops his shoulder, leans in, lowers his body - so a legal tackle ends up high. A lot harder for an ump on the field to adjudicate.

Opposition players simply have to avoid tackling him in the upper arm/chest area because he'll inevitably draw high contact, whether its the initial point of contact or if he shrugs the tackle higher. Go for the waist and if he gets the ball away, so be it.

tbh though I wonder sometimes if he does more harm than good for Geelong. Drawing a free kills their run and the opposition gets time to shift back.

If there's anything the umps can do, its a change of philosophy. Rather than punish high contact, punish high tackles. While the head is sacrosanct, any tackle that slips high isn't going to cause any harm, like a coathanger would. So any tackle that starts legal, should stay legal, even if it slips high. Similar Rugby League. You guys in League above the shoulders all the time, but its simply due to the nature of a physical game. They still punish high tackles and head slams though.

Even watching the replay I thought Thomas dropped to his knees a little too easily. I was happy for the ump to let it go.

Well.....what a remarkable win by Port Adelaide. From a neutral point of view, it was a thrilling game from start to finish. Port vs Richmond aside, we have been treated to a great finals series so far!

Kinda getting annoyed with this sentimentality that Boomer should be let off, because its finals. If the players don't know the law of the land by now, then get what they're given.

Harvey let's his aggression get the better of him, and its not the system's fault if he misses a final. You can't make exceptions as it undermines the whole process.

If Fyfe is ineligible for the Brownlow then Harvey sits next week.

This year's final 8 didn't quite feel like a true form guide, and its great to see it throwing up a few curve balls.

I sometimes wonder if Freo are on the path to where St Kilda are now. Ross didn't go as hard at sacrificing picks to trade for experience, as he did with the Saints, but ever since Fyfe and Barlow only committed to 3 year deals, on top of Pav, Mundy, Sandilands and McPharlin heading into their final years, it'll be interesting to see where they are in 3 years.

*Brent Harvey was off the ground when contact was made
*Brent Harvey had the option to tackle
