The Watto situation is bloody hard hey....I think the selectors have to either say a. you are an opening batsman/No. 3 who won't bowl or a No. 5 or No. 6 who will bowl.

The only issue I see with him batting between 4-6 in the order is that he will often have to start against spin, which I think he is better at playing once he is set. Seems like a bloke who likes to pull out the cover drive, cut and pull early to get himeself going and then settle down.

That's something Warner needs to figure out too... His two Test 100s came against NZ without Vettori and India without Ashwin. I think we'll see more spin early agains Australia, especially as Marsh and Ponting both don't start well against spin either.

Back to Watson. He averages 38 with the bat and whilst he averages 28 with the ball, he averages 10 overs per innings and a solitary wicket. He's a batsman who bowls a bit, a la Kallis, rather than a bowling all-rounder. He needs to bat between 4-6 IMO, and bowl his 12 overs, otherwise he's just a batsman who averages 38; I'd rather have Phil Hughes because at least Hughes doesn't make awful ads.

Shane Watson is averaging 38 as Opener which isn't to bad and i think if he comes lower down the order he will only get better. But in ODI cricket i'd want him to open any day!

Just unbelievable honestly if you look at it, Sharma was the batsman and not the night watchmen he barely face many deliveries!

No it was slightly different,
Because Hughes still has a career in first class cricket
Unlike Marsh, who is a poor performer at that level.

Anyways you said that "he never fails at state level", where as he's horribly inconsistent and average in first class matches. He averages 37.5 which is not good enough and has 7 hundreds in 125 innings.

He doesn't do that bad, 7 100's in 125 innings isn't to great at all but to still have an average of 37.5 in that circumstances is not bad but he definitely needs find more consistency.
