Suggestions to Select!

Thanks Mate but i have well and truly given up on Select!

Hope it is a half way decent set set for all those who are looking forward to it!
not me!!

Why cant select have classic catches??? There have been 100's of wonderful catches taken - they could get these autographed. The best catch (as voted by select panel or colectors) could be in gold, stamped, 3d or something completely different.

How about teams of the century, One day and Test. What about wisden winners??

There is heaps to choose from!!!

Cricket cox has some wonderful suggestions

Ye..im sure a few of the cricket lads can suggest something for him !!

Ide love to collect cricket but there just isnt enought hits out of a box for my liking...i guess we are spoilt with nba...

I agree with howzat! What's wrong with a normal photo background? It worked in the 90s and still works in 2009.

it costs more thats why! Companies always need to increase profits to please their shareholders ;)

I just think select are just geting lazy with there cards, The signature these days look like common cards, with a white background with the signature in it, (2009/10 master signatures) very very poor effort I think, I was very disappointed, it look very very plain. That's only an example, not to talk about AFL and NRL. I really like the signatures cards of select in the 90's AFL they look totally different from the common cards and that's what I think signatures and inserts should look like. I just hope that select read all our suggestions.

I am by far an expert on select products (dont actually own one), but for card companies in general :

Good quality cardboard not too thin etc (this might not be the case)

What would make me buy select is

Thinner pens for auto's, thick texta looks extremely ugly :yellow:

There a lot better than last years!!!!!

I thought Select did a superb job with the 09/10 collection - I was originally going to just get the autos but in the end went for the whole master set - I think they are back on track. Having said that I heard that 09/10 still didn't sell all that well, and there may be question marks over whether there will be a cricket release at all next year? I sure hope they don't drop cricket, surely Select are still turning enough of a profit to keep it running?

The box at the local convenience store next to my work was full when I bought 10 packs from it 2 months ago.....I went in there yesterday and there was a layer of dust over the top 2 packs - clearly I was the only one who has bought any. Disappointing...

good read, great thread, great idea....good on select for taking them on board...oh wait, no they didnt the useless lowlife pr!cks....that bullsh!t excuse about game used being easly picked is a joke, reduce the amount of cards in the pack that has the game used in it! or, put a filler card in each pack to make the same thickness..they could do it if they wanted to but they're too lazy...i wont even bother about putting forth a suggestion of game used autos and 1/1 patches....how sick would it be to see a 1/1 katich card ith the kookaburra logo, or an old 1/1 david boon with the gray nic logo...so many things select could do but dont have the drive to do it...they wouldnt make any more money than they do now with their cards so its not worth their while.

haha tell it how it is slobby  but yeah with the cricket they need to get it out there!
have it on the front shelves at newsagents, like what brad said about the 10 packs he bought and the rest sitting for 2 months, well I couldn't even find any packs in the main suburbs of brissy. I had shopowners looking at me wondering what I was talking about when I asked...
But yeah what could be slobby (I have gone off the 09/10 cards pretty quickly, except for the gems, punter and phil hughes cards....even thinking of getting rid of the rest!)

Imagine jumbo 1/1 patch cards that had the coat of arms and test cap numbers from game worn test shirts, and then there could be patch and swatch cards from the ODI and T20 jerseys, but sadly it ain't going to happen with select
Holding out for the futera cricket because they have all of that in their soccer cards :v:

Yeah Howzat, I know what your talking about i went to about 20 different newagencys at nobody had 2009/2010 cricket cards. I had 2 of them looking into getting them in and told me they couldn't despite selling league and afl cards. So i ended up buying 6 boxes straight from select. Now back on topic

Autos - i liked the limited number autos in 08/09 but i also liked the more common autos last year. So why not combine the 2. If you have 6000 why not do 10 state player autos of 500 each and 5 top players at 200 each. So get get a auto every box and every 6th box you get one of the big autos.

Parrellel Sets - which were worse 08/09 bendy foils or last years ugly looking die cut sheilds, personally i would like to see the foils if you could remove the bend. Also it would be good to see a silver and gold parrellel set. say 1:1 packs and 1:6 Packs

Inserts - Love the return of the Freshman last year, what else maybe a top runscorcers or wickettakers so we can get some cards from older players border, warne, s.waugh , mcgarth etc.

Memorabilia cards - would be awesome of course we can only hope.

I just re-read my post from April 2 above and must say I was surprised I was so glowing in my appraisal. Since getting a taste for NBA collecting in the past few months it is obvious that Select are 15 years behind UD and Panini and Futera UK - in fact the rest of the card-producing companies outside of Australia are light years ahead of what Select are producing right now.

GU cards are the norm now - they are a MUST in any card set, they are a non-negotiable. It is like Select are still making VHS recorders while the rest of the world are using Blue-ray technology.

They need more greats of the game, and to become more relevant I would like to see a more premium product. The hobby set they made in 98/99 was great, but that will be 13 years old by the time the next release comes out. How can they possibly say they have progressed or moved with the times when a 13 year old set is still their best???

I would love to see a premium release WSC retro set of every player who played WSC from 1980-1990 as the base set, with

1) a green parallel set (1 per pack) and
2) a gold parallel set (1 per 5 packs)
3) 20 player autos, each /50
4) a top 10 "classic catches/memorable moments" auto set each /50.

I would be buying them by the case!!

I'll only be buying the sigs in future or the high-end cards (if there are any!). The other insert sets are unfortunately barely worth the paper they are printed on.

 Well said! maybe even take out the VHS and insert BETA!
Foil sigs, I mean c'mon the 81 scanlens set had fascimile sigs on it and the gold foil sigs are basically just a tramped up version, some 29 years later...
