Suggestions to Select!

busy??? Producing the same junk every year i thought that Select Offices would be bludge central
Just to throw in what i think, they need to aggressively pursue other Cricketing nations to make a Internation/Worldwide release. That is the one thing Cricket has over the other codes Select cards cover.
I drool at the thought of some sick international autos.

Imagine if you had a Sachin Tendulkar signature redemption in your hands with 20 million people in india are classed as millionaires!!

even now i don't think it was a bargin!! Are they rare or valuable i think not, not even well produced!!
Maybe you can tell i'm starting to have negative feeling towards select, they still haven't had the decency to address our suggestions, i think i will email an enquiry once more then ........Insert verb here........Them!

Well i have emailed them a couple of times and the only reply i have got is 'Its in the pipeline' so i don't think i will bother from now on! And hopefully wait for the Futera UK series next year!
Thanks for all your help in putting together a submission to Select but i fear it has fallen on deaf ears, feel free to take up the challenge and continue the quest!
thanks guys!

im over putting suggestions together for an improved Select Cricket series. they just dont listen, for a collector its very frustrating. i wish select would have a look at the nba stuff more. all the ideas of the nba brought into afl and cricket would be a best seller straight up and sh*t all over anything else they have done lately.
i brought 2 boxes of 07/08, one box of 08/09, see the pattern here folks lol. im with mamboblue72 here, bring it on Futera, select are no competition for Futera.

They definitely need numbered inserts and some variety in the designs (most inserts from recent card issues just look like base) Have a look at the 90's for some nice cards (94 elite XI- my personal favourite, bat2ball, freshman, and retrospective- second favourite)

I think they need to put some international stars in there as well. Who wants 5 or 6 cards of each player in sets. Bit of variety please. Who wouldn't like to get an auto of say Lara, Flintoff, Sangakkara and even Tendulkar (personally i'd just sell it cause i've got no respect for the liar anymore)

Would definitely love some game used cards. Glove from a ponting 100, piece of stump from game, match used shirt etc. (has anyone ever seen the Gilchrist gamed used from 2002- i've never seen it. Does it exist?)

Just my 2 cents.

Ed.

here are my absolute non negotiables for the next Cricket series
*MUST BE an international series
*Each box must contain 1 sig card (not too sure what type of sig card, last years state player sigs were on the money i think)
*Redemption cards of atleast 2 past legends and 1 current player (say for example Hayden and Gilchrist limited to 100 and a Mitchell Johnson limited to 200)
*All cards in the series must be better quality, not this thin crappy cardboard being used lately
*Leave sketch cards out, they have been done to death and everyone is over them.

possibly additions to make it a real killer series and get everyone hooked on them.
*GU cards (haddins gloves, pontings bat, a piece of ball from the match, anything would work perfect, just something to keep people excited) GAME USED IS THE WAY OF THE FUTURE FOR TRADING CARDS.
*Numbered inserts (not just the sigs but all inserts except maybe the lower end stuff)

pretty basic stuff really, its all commonsense when you think about it.
id buy a case of the stuff if they looked anything like this.
if Select want to compete with any up and coming cricket release from Futera or anyone for that matter then they had better lift their game to a way higher standard.

what do you guys think of my ideas?

like eddy griffs point about all numbered inserts yes!. i have been saying that for ages now. And darrens point on signatures. Good!

like in footy series 2 how they have the draft sigs and then another type of sig :)

every cricekt release has just 1 type of sig. Maybe one sub set 1 per box and a more limited type of sig.

I have to agree that this is more on the money, this is the type of stuff everyone wants to see.... I just dont understand why they cant get off their asses and do it!!!

G'day Guys,

Tony from Select emailed me this morning!

He highlighted a few issues concerned with the production of an international set. It seems that there are great difficulties in signing overseas players and indeed keeping the costs down to even sign our own player, do to the fact that intellectual rights are now a prohibitive cost. This was not a problem in the 90's, It seems that everyone wants a cut! Some larger than others!
"In some cases without naming names some of our most elite past players will not even consider being part of the collection without a multi thousand dollar payment which makes it very difficult for the set to be viable."

He was also good enough to explain that the quailty of past prints( For classic photos) have not been cared for and are therefore difficult to use.

He did not address other issues such as card stock or inserts but did mention that there will be a 4,800 box release later this year with the line up still to be finalised!

I think it is a step forward that he emailed me and we have a means for adding continued suggestions and i thanked him for getting back to me!
Cheers Guys

very interesting.
well if thats the issue they should do an exquisite style set. maybe have 5 packs per box with about 2-3 decent hits in each. and charge about $120-$150 or so. id love that!
