2016 AFL Season Discussion

I think we can. Judging that St Kilda is also coming back from trying so hard in Adelaide because it can take a bit out of teams.

It will be a close though

I believe we have a chance this year against the Hawks at Etihad. It's really hard to win in Tasmania or at G

Well as always I will be there, hopefully sitting with the cheer squad this week.

Hawthorn will be interesting next week, but we beat them & top 4 is a really big chance.

I watched the first half off the Bulldogs vs Fremantle game and the first thing I noticed was that the Dogs have added a bit of mongrel to their flair from last season. They really hunted the Fremantle players in packs - the gang tackle of Nathan Fyfe near the behind post being a classic example.

It always sounds a bit sugary and condescending to say that "team X is my second favourite team" but the Bulldogs brand of footy is really exciting and it is going to be damn hard to contain. I think this is why the first half of the season is crucial for the Bulldogs - the run-and-gun style might fatigue them towards the end of the season. As a Hawthorn fan, the round 3 game promises to be a ripper!

As a Bulldogs supporter I hope you lose !

But as I have said to others it is the year of the "FOURTHORN". I am really hoping for it anyway. Prayed for Brisbane, but they fell short. Need someone else to win four in row. They can't keep the record all to them selves.

With Nick Riewoldt on the eve (give or take a day or two) of his 300th game, I just had a quick look at what other 300+ game milestones are due to be reached this season. Select HQ will have their hands full for the 2017 footy releases re: potential case cards!!

*Nick Riewoldt: 300 games (this weekend)
*Shaun Burgoyne: 300 games (due in round 5)
*Drew Petrie: 300 games (due in round 7)
*Robert Murphy: 300 games (due in round 8)
*Sam Mitchell: 300 games (due in round 16)
*Scott Thompson: 300 games (due in round 16)
*Matthew Pavlich: 350 games (due in round 16)
*Jimmy Bartel: 300 games (due in round 18)
*Brent Harvey: 427 games - AFL/VFL record (due in round 19)

It might get a bit tight for Pav towards the end of the season, whereas with Mitchell, Thompson, Bartel and Boomer you can easily see them playing next season anyway.

Geez, a week is a long time in footy hey! I am so glad I don't do footy tipping any more. Last night Collingwood were a mere four seconds away from being THE story again - now the furnace has been turned on Richmond. I can't say that I gave Essendon a chance of beating Melbourne today, nor Gold Coast of beating Fremantle in the game that has just concluded at Subiaco. The Dockers face the real possibility of an 0-4 start, with West Coast next week and then North Melbourne at Etihad the week after.

I am finding the Monday-Friday "everyone's in crisis" thing a real grind this season - the actual games of footy are a release from the absurdity of the modern sports media, where sensationalism, manufactured controversy and self-aggrandising is the norm. I do notice with great interest that Collingwood have banned the Herald Sun (and by extension Mark Robinson) from talking to their players or officials, following the "up to eleven players" illicit drugs story last week. Not that they'd care a fig what I think, but I agree completely with Collingwood!

Very sad. It was good not to hear from them.

Will you be going to the Saints game ?
Sorry didn't see your reply. Yeah I was there! 2-0 start with both wins being by about 10 goals. We are going to have a good hard game with the hawks next week.

I only ask because I had half of the 2015 stars you needed, at the time of my message. You don't seem to need them anymore. Next time.

Fourthorn will be an interesting match, I'll be there to watch the match of the year so far. I hope it is, would hate for it to be a 1 side game.

Either way I'll be there at the end. Still have 30+ cards to get signed.

Good luck with them, looking forward to seeing where we are at

....I might have to go into hiding on Monday :-)

On paper, Western Bulldogs vs Hawthorn looks by far the most interesting game of round 3 - a lot of the others might be tight-ish but I am looking forward to a rare display of pristine kicking from both teams on Sunday afternoon.

Port Adelaide have suddenly been hit by a raft of injuries: Alipate Carlisle (wrist) for up to six weeks, Chad Wingard (hamstring), Hamish Hartlett (hamstring) and Jay Schulz (back) have joined Matt White (pectorial - three months) and Nathan Krakouer (jaw/suspended) on the sidelines. You would THINK they can get over Essendon tomorrow night, but it might be a hard grind.

Perhaps the most intriguing debut for 2016 comes away from the footy field - tonight is Rebecca Maddern's first episode as co-host of The Footy Show. As Sam Newman said today, it doesn't matter what they do or how they do it, the critics will be circling tomorrow morning anyway!

Dogs vs Hawks, wow, what a game! People wanted an epic game and they got one, but are still complaining. Umpires did this, dogs deserved to win blah blah. Can never please people who suffer from tall poppy syndrome. Great game and fight back from the Hawks. Sicily has arrived! Just hope Bob Murphy is OK after being helped from the ground with only 1 minute on the clock, looked like a knee injury of some sort, fingers crossed for him.

With the words "I think it's bad news. The worst, actually", Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has all but confirmed that we'll see no more of Robert Murphy this season.

Some footy injuries occur and you think to yourself "gee, that's bad luck", or at times you don't even know who the player in question is. This one hurts, though. As a Hawthorn man I'd gladly trade the win today for a fit Robert Murphy.

I'm not entirely sure exactly what this situation "sucks", but it definitely sucks something :-(

What a game!!! Unfortunate the doggies didn't win but it's not the umpires, both teams got bad calls. Can I ask why did stringer get that free to put us in front. Like yeah awesome we got a goal but I have no idea why.

Really upset about murphy. Hopefully I haven't witnessed his last game :(

I thought the game was over at this moment lol. Dogs just got 2 goals instantly and hit the lead.

Hopefully nothing serious with Murphy... it was a real nailbiter of a game!
