Official ESP 2016 NRL Traders Thread (Sell Sheet Page 14)

Different player images on base v // v insert cards is only expensive because of current obscene charges/royalties. I understand people have to make a living but the photographers/organisations that set those prices REALLY need to start thinking hard. Sooner or later they will be told to shove their charges/royalties, THEY WILL GET $0 and there will be NO cards for collectors. Lose-lose-lose - image owners, card makers, card collectors.

Back to the 1:3 or 1:4 ratio for a single set of //s question, to do this they would have to totally disassociate the // design from previous releases. eg 2014/15 Traders Blacks and 2015 Elite Golds were a similar ratio yet they can be picked up for $1.50 (Traders)/$2.50 (2015E). So if a higher ratio single // set is to be made available and it was a similar Black/Gold style, then those cards are INSTANTLY going to be associated with a $1.50/$2.50 price in collector's minds based on previous years, regardless of current year "rarity". So there's not going to be much incentive for someone to spend $12 (1:3 at $4/pack) for an ~$2 card. Make it a 1:4 ratio and higher pack price and that equation only gets worse.

Further, if you can't get a parallel set from a case - like Elite Golds - then the current situation will continue to suk. The bigger the set number, the worse that situation gets as well.

Regards
Mike

The mojo set I thought was a great initiative this year in the Elite. I would prefer getting rid of a parallel per pack and chase a mojo team parallel pack that is numbers. This could be in the traders release too, i.e. emerald mojo in traders and a ruby mojo in elite.

In regards to 2016 Traders I think I sit in the boat of keeping the 1 per pack parallel and the same $3.99 packet price. I am definitely not a fan of decreasing the commons to 9 in fact I would lean to increasing the number of commons per team to 17 + logo and a 17 + logo parallel set and remove the 2nd parallel set and also a low end insert set like faces of the game. You could probably remove another insert set or two from this release as well in my opinion e.g. Galactic Hero's could be moved to just a 3D album card.

This could at least allow 1 set per year that you could get a Master set.

Select always managed to have different pics on their parallels, so it's not impossible. Maybe the prices per pic have gone up since then making it nonviable, or ESP spent too much on the license meaning their budget can't stretch to it.

But anyway, at least a different design for them please! If that means we can't strictly call them a parallel set anymore as people seem to love to point out, so be it! Although again that means Select never produced a parallel card. But just call them something else if it's that important to you!

I'm just totally sick of about five versions of exactly the same card with the only difference being what colour cardboard they are printed on.

I agree! A mojo parallel pack would go down definitely well in the traders! I believe a mojo pack being an Emerald edition along slide the low-end traditional silver and black parallels would be a ripper should it replace this years highest end insets (excluding Legend signatures and yes they're to stay in this context I'm discussing) such as the Dynamic Duos from last year and the Triple Brothers signature from the year before. So players printed on green foil board a might ripper and each card with of course the nrl certification laser sticker on rear plus the serial number individually numbered to this time 20! Yes twenty!

I like the idea of an emerald set, but I dont like the idea of a parallel set. :)

Back to the Future signature series

One per club, dual auto, players with previous signature cards

My choice for Canberra would be a Wighton / Belcher dual auto

I'd like to see an ongoing series called Generations or something similar, with two cards each year - a current father/son pair and a retro pair. Eg Kevin & Jackson Hastings, and Steve & Mat Rogers.
Plenty of options coming up - Sironen, Spina, Coleman, Woolford...

I think you might be onto something there, the mojo pack would be ideal in the traders series I think, remove the 1 per pack and maybe do 2 types, green at a ratio of 1:1-2 boxes and red at 1:case.

doing some quick math:

1 per 2 boxes & numbered to 500:
500 x 16 teams = 8000sets
@1 per 2 boxes = 16000 boxes

From memory there are more than that in the traders release ~24,000 maybe, so maybe they go to 750 or 675 or unnumbered @ 1000+.

Personally, if traders are to have any meaning, the total number of boxes produced needs to be cut at least in 1/2.

Look on eBay now - flooded with 1:72 pack cards that can not be sold - Retirements and Club Leaders at $10 or less.

Bit bored so thought id have a crack at the sigs for each club for traders, a few ive heard the usual rumours for the rest ive gone with who may get it given past cards and in some cases just who id like to see have one. Bring on the discussions :)

Broncos: Boyd, Thaiday
Bulldogs: Reynolds, Graham
Raiders: Vaughn, Croker
Cowboys: JT, Morgan
Titans: Bird, Roberts (late transfer so maybe)
Manly: Stewart, T Trbojevic
Storm: Slater, Harris
Knights: Uate, Gagai
Eels: Norman, watmough (semi would make sense given recently signed ult coll)
Panthers: Peachey, Whare
Sharks: Ennis, Feki
Rabbits:Keary, Johnston
Dragons:Widdop, Nightingale
Roosters: Evans, Friend
Warriors:lillyman, Henry
Tigers:Lawrence, Woods

Legends:...... .........

Hoping it's not Nightingale for St George, he is without doubt the worst signer at the Dragons, will sign one OK early on and then scribbles like the age / number on his back after that.

What about Jennings for the Roosters and Copley for the Bronco's?

A few names on that list which are being bandied about. I reckon these will fall about one a case.....

So bank loan needed?

I feel sorry for any team that gets a crappy player - chasing a 1 in 16 cases (League Sensations type) signature card. Imagine chasing a David Simmons for several hundred dollars

Even dropping from a master set collector to a team collector this hobby seems cost-prohibitive these days. Still nothing confirmed and nice to see signatures.

Can get previous legends sigs for only $250 so hard to imagine several hundred dollars being needed. Be interesting to see how this years legends go
