ESP NRL Traders 2014 Thread - Checklist Added (Pg 18)!!!

I think there is a divide between people who have talked personally to Terry and those that haven't. He seems to have allayed the frustrations of some members who were previously critical of the way in which things were being managed. Most of us here have collected for years and are equally addicted, yet some are privvy to information, some are not. That can only breed resentment. I still can't fathom why there is no dialogue between ESP and the collectors. I read through the 2013 Elte forum the other day and someone mentioned that Terry does read the forum. It had about two months of collectors talking excitedly about the product, ratios, no 1s etc and yet no indication was given to us to clarify some of the misnomers we had about the product despite it been very clear that we had the wrong end of the stick for a few things.

Forget resellers, nothing will hurt the small business owners more than collectors feeling as if they are getting minformation or getting nasty surprises when they bust. I would normally buy several boxes on a pre-purchase arrangement with those dealers and then a few more after release. Without that information and trust in the product, small business are just not going to get that money I would have spent prior to release; full stop.

From what I gather, Sportscollectorscards did not receive wholesale product for the Elite release, I would be interested to hear what impact, if any, it had on small business to have had him less active on their market. It feels like an excuse to me and I'd love for someone to educate me further on this. (Perhaps by PM if people are concerned about protecting their wicket) Do our sellers rely on much business outside this site? Being out of the Sydney I don't have the face to face connections to know how it all really works. Surely prices are more affected by how much product is released onto the market.

I will always buy my boxes off this site or through the NZ distributor and fully support the sellers here. I'm not sure there is really anyone on this site that wouldn't.

I agree Owen that we all should support our card dealers but I don't understand how withholding a sell sheet will be disadvantageous to only people like sportscollectorcards.

I would have thought these actions would be detrimental to all card dealers including the ones we all support here on OCT. I have not pre-ordered any boxes/cases as yet and I am sure there are plenty of people like me waiting to see what we will receive for our hard earned. Because we have not pre-ordered it must be difficult for dealers to order an accurate quantity of stock. If they under order they may lose sales to other dealers. If they over order they may be stuck with unsaleable stock from a crap series. At least if they already had rough quantities they could, to an extent mitigate their risk.

If ESP were confident of their product I don't see why they wouldn't want to advertise and promote their cards and get them moving as soon as the release date hits.

If they were selling any other product they would already be out of business. It is lucky for them there are some "crackheads" amongst us who will do anything for footy cards.

Good points Mark and I dont disagree - but if you have a clown making the threat of "im going to make sure no one make money from this release" then you have do something to protect the other 80% of sellers that buy your product.

Look i think ESP have been pretty upfront with Traders about what information he was going to release and when. Im not really sure what misinformation has been doing the rounds with this release.

I still find it funny how everything seems to remember Select being so great at talking to collectors. Plenty in here have spoken to Terry in the 18 months he has been in the hobby. How many of you have ever met Grant Copley??

Personally, I've been getting emails from ESP.

And the person I've spoken to has been pretty cool.

It was tough last year for everyone. Here's hoping 2014 is good for ALL of us!

So far this product looks great and there hasn't been misinformation. I'm talking about the misinformation (numbering, 1s, (lack of info around packaging)) on previously releases and how this has now damaged the trust that some buyers have in the new product - hence my decision to wait and see before I purchase. I do accept that collectors have made assumptions at times too. I think this product will be good and ESP are moving in the right direction for sure. I'm sure my posts are viewed as been overly critical and that is not there intention - if we are not candid with them as key stakeholders in their industry then how are things going to improve? Sometimes a devil's advocate is needed to ensure that dialogue is had and being removed from the scene I am in a good position to do so.

I never mentioned Select and believe your point is moot. To my knowledge they released detailed information prior to their products hitting the shelf and their product was as stated. Not been a member of this forum before 2011, I may be showing my ignorance on that point. I acknowledge that Terry attends show etc which is great, there is a very large market outside of Sydney though.

This is very true, if you are not one of ESP's select chosen few, then you are pretty much left to scavenge around for any scraps of info that those who are in the know choose to hand out. Doesn't exactly leave average joe collectors with a great taste in the mouth.

I don't see what's stopping them from setting up a facebook page where they could release the info, and answer a few questions now and then.

Even Select's infamous sneak peaks now look like extremely generous information sharing!

In saying that, I'm happy with ESP's releases so far, Elite was great and they are improving with every release. I don't even particularly care about the lack of a checklist until release date. But their communication to most of us just non-existent.

You have to admit by the end of their NRL run, Select did do a pretty job of keeping in touch through their facebook page, and Jo was always very helpful with emails, etc. Even if they released some pretty average stuff and never listened to anything the collectors said ... communication was their strongpoint!

So is sunshine collectibles just guessing that the common team sets are 12 per team and common set is 198 cards, Cause if i was to prepurchase, and these were different i would be negging him all day

Wasn't it sunshine collectibles that got caught out on another release with sigs?

Would not know mate. I got banned from their facebook page for defending Justin after they banned him.

I agree. from my conversations with him, Terry has taken the feedback on and learnt some lessons from last year. Time will tell.

It was Sportscollectorcards that got caught out selling those Young Guns for $40 if thats what your referring to Dave.

Glad someone is getting a response.

I sent ESP an email about a month and half ago and still haven't got a reply. =D>

I Have been critical of esp more than most but i will say i Have found Terry to be Very Approachable when i have have Attended any of the shows'and he was always Happy to answer my Questions and like owen said no Grant Copley or any Representative from Select at any shows.

I remember the sportscollectorcards saga from last year.
What i remember the most was that he Actually Honored my sales.

Lots of good points from everyone on here but still ESP should bloody just release a shell sheet so us collectors can budget and get excited about new releases more. I'm one of the now many collectors holding off buying boxes until I know what's coming.
If I wasn't so lazy I'd just start making my own Raiders cards and just collect them lol

I don't think it would hurt to release the odds and quantities of each card. It'd then raise a bit of interest trying to work out who's going to get each card from your club. And I don't see how sellers could presale on ebay without knowing who the players are that are being released.

Obviously it'd help a lot of people in deciding whether they want to buy a box/case, though.

Couldnt ESP tell Sportscollectorscards to go F himself and not sell to him wholesale and problem solved?

They don't so I have been told, he had to buy at retail for the last release. There are several members that traditionally presale on Ebay, some in large quantities. I can't see why ESP would focus on him alone (YG issue aside)?

Anyway this issue has been done to death and is not really getting us anywhere, all I care about is that I'm sure I'm getting value for money before I spend it.

I'm curious to see what the odds will be like. Although we are getting a heap of inserts included and it's being put across as a lot more value, a whole 16 sigs have been taken out of traders which last year there was a fair bit of value to each of them.

Be good to see the legends (high end sig inserts) at least one per case as if they are not theres probably not much incentive to buy full cases of this product.

Keen to see this checklist to see whether it's worthwhile getting cases or just boxes. For once I am holding off preordering also.

I don't think they understand that the "team" collectors far outweigh the "all in" collectors these days...
We like to know exactly what (and who) we are in for, does make it easier on the budget.
At the end of the day, I can (roughly) gauge what I am going to be up for, I do care what's in it for me...
But to be honest, I'm gonna by it anyway... So it really makes no difference to me if I know numbers and names.

The not knowing does annoy me though... But that's no different to any other human in any other situation!!
