ESP NRL Traders 2014 Thread - Checklist Added (Pg 18)!!!

Despite all the negatives that have been identified with previous ESP releases they are well & truly on the right track. Album cards, starter packs, the NRL mega pack have all been great ideas and the 2014 Traders looks really good from the limited info we have. I have had only good experiences with ESP in relation to replacing damaged cards and I know others waited for ages but my issues were dealt with quickly and efficiently. I liked Select and ESP do have improvement to do but they are well & truly on the way. At the end of the day I am glad to have something new to buy with a chance at a high end sig.

It because you have assholes like sportscollectorcards that are determined to discount the product to a point where no one can make money on it.

Dont know if anyone caught his rants on his Elite listings last year but he was promising to exact "revenge" on NRL sellers for refusing to sell him cases last year when he could not get any through his Newsagent contacts. Then he was running around telling anyone who would listen how he was single handedly going to make sure no one made any money on Traders this year.

So thats why we are not getting any info until the release date. ESP are looking after sellers (big and small) and trying to give them a chance against this clown.

So get out and support your local card dealer. Without them the hobby dies.

So, how is it one person can sell a product at one price and someone else sell the same product at a different price! Shouldn't it be the same right across the board!

As a collector, I like to know odds in boxes, simply because I would like to know if it is going to be cheaper to buy all the lower end inserts as a whole or cheaper to buy boxes/a case for me to get what I want. Buying sets straight out is pretty boring. I would rather open packets. Snaring signatures is just a bonus, and at the end of the day, I have no interest in signatures or higher end cards. Usually I sell them on ebay or try and sell them through here, so then I can put the money towards the next series.

Not really sure what you mean?
Ok,

Let's take 2013 ESP Elite Factory Sealed Boxes for example. Been looking at box prices recently on feebay, I have seen 6 different prices for a factory sealed box ranging from $100 - $140. So, how come one person can sell a box of these at $100 and another at $140!

Maybe some of the sellers are trying to sell in volume, say selling 20 boxes at $100 each opposed to only selling 2 or 3 boxes at $140

I think perhaps that sellers with an excess of stock might discount in order to move that stock so that they can maintain some cash flow. If they were to sit and wait for buyers at the premium price, they may get stuck with a lot of unwanted product by the time the next release comes out. If a seller only has a few boxes it's not going to matter much if they wait for a bite.
Excuse my editorialising, but nobody would want to get stuck with too many boxes of ESP's offerings thus far. :(
But cheer up everyone, Traders14 will be here soon and it looks (or at least sounds) pretty good. :)

Its really up to the reseller what they charge and how much profit is enough for them to make. If the whole sale price is say $100 a reseller can sell at 110 or 144 which is the RRP or anywhere in between. That is the beauty of a free market, prices can't be dictated and a seller can make what he or she wants to make.

Some sellers sell cheap and in volume to make there money ie they might more than 90 cases and making only 10 bucks a box, that is just their way. Other sellers may sell at a higher price and not sell as much but may make the same sort of profit. Shop around and it doesn't hurt to ask a seller for an additional saving if you are buying more than one item.

Does anyone feel with the large volume of cards (670 for 2014) and the rarity of some cards (limit of 100) it feels as though a lot of fun has been ripped out of card collecting and it is now a chore? Probably a reason why people now do team collections rather than series collections.

I feel the '94 and '95 series (other than there being three series in the year) had the right amount of base and insert cards with enough available that while it was a challenge to get them it wasn't almost impossible as the odds of getting 1 out of 100 are.

I haven't got a series since 2009 (before that 2001) but the jersey parallels where a joke only 1 per pack and 195 of them available (same as the base set) assuming no doubles that is 195 packs to get the series. In the end I only bought a few packs then went to ebay as I figured it would be cheaper to buy the full set (base, parallels, and other inserts) as sets of ebay than buying packs or even a box from traders.

Another thing to consider with box prices, especially on eBay is that some will come from searched cases hence the cheaper price

Good point, but this information is seldom (if ever) disclosed to potential buyers. Hence the importance of developing relationships with dependable and honest dealers, such as those found amongst the membership of Ozcardtrader.com.au. ;)

I was being a bit ironic too, since almost all my boxes from OZT sellers have been as if the cases had been searched.
But since they were from case shares, I know it was just my crappy luck. More hits for me from packets I'm afraid, but that's gunna change this time. ;)
