2013/14 Ashes non Official thread !!

Didn't take long for us to show out true colours...though i guess when your number 11 saves your skin with 98 it's not really like our batsmen improved. Gotta say we have got the worst of the DRS and England have benefited from it greatly. It's such a stupid system.
 
I've got a problem with it in general. A ball given out LBW, reviewed and it is clipping leg stump so it remains out. Same ball, given not out, reviewed and it is clipping leg stump and it remains not out. How can the same ball be both out and not out? It's a serious flaw. And then you get a howler like what should have been a wicket to Agar and you have no reviews left...
 
The problem with the DRS (well I think, anyway) - comes in three parts.

Firstly, it is being used as a tactic by the batting and bowlng teams - it was never intended to be used as a tactic, it is designed to lessen the number of incorrect on-field decisions.

Secondly, you can't have an international-standard competition where one cricket board can actually CHOOSE not to use the system whenever it sees fit.

Finally, the creators of the video technology have stated that LBW reviews through hawkeye follow a "predicted" path and that therefore the accuracy is not 100%. I just cannot cop that a ball can be shown flicking the outside of the top corner of the leg bail, and because it is doing so by two inches either side of the stump, a decision can be reached either way.
 
Why don't they allow a review not to be deducted in the not out LBW cases where it would have still hit the stumps on 'umpire's call' for the fielding sides' challenge or if the batting side was out in the first instance, and is still out on their review, even with the ball just grazing the stumps - currently the decision still stands and they lose a challenge to boot.
I also fail to see why there isn't an automatic check on no balls when there is a wicket; the third umpire could have a quick look before the batsman is off the ground. Remember Warne getting out for 99 against the Kiwis - was a no ball....
The side-on cameras look to be too far away in the current game; I'm sure that with a closer/clearer view that Agar was stumped the other day - edge of his boot looked to be on the line - which is out. I didn't see clearly any part of the boot behind the line.
What chance the Aussies tonight?
 
the DRS shouldnt be in the captains hands in the first place, if there is a bad decision the 3rd umpire should indicate to the adjudicating umpire to call the player back, mainly for obvious this like Mr Broad hitting the cover off a ball and not walking. As far as the game goes Australia have no chance of winning, Agar will fail and its not looking good for the rest of the series.
 
I give Australia a chance. haddin, agar, siddle and starc can all score runs ive seen it before. 90 overs left there's no rush. yes the new ball is available in 9 overs but it has it's cons. i'm not writing off the aussies
 
Just saw that Broad edge. OMFG that is terrible umpiring. You can't blame the batsman for not walking but you have to think that is some questionable umpiring though
 
Getting pretty tense :P Have a feeling Australia can pull this off, as long as Pattinson can hang in there and Swann doesn't deliver that special ball.
 
This is unbearably tense hey? I honestly have no idea how it is going to end up, hopefully with Stuart Broad dropping a skied hook shot and us running 3 to win :-)
