We were never going to win, were always going to come up short and be disappointed. Had to get England out for less in the second innings (some decent umpiring might have helped). However our bowlers did well, saving our arses in the batting department too. If not for them we would have been flogged and our batting is really a problem. Cowan must be dropped, and unless a couple of others start pulling their weight it's going to be an easy series win to England. Clarke is no longer in amazing form and we don't have Hussey so we are screwed. However, England didn't really bowl or bat so well either. Starc's figures flatter him too i think, bowled like shit a lot of the time.
I remember Adelaide 1993, Sydney 1994 and Edgbaston 2005 - I am just relieved that it wasn't a single-figure margin in the end, Indon't think my ticker would have coped!
Outstanding Test match, we are in this series up to our eye balls. The fight that was shown is true of the Australian teams I grew up watching and have loved ever since (until recent months!) and there is no doubt that Boof has had a great influence already.

Mate this series is going to be no cake walk for England. I honestly thought Australia were going to win this game at the beginning of the day. I think Australia are a great team. This game proved that.
Game 2 might see Cowan dropped and Finn for England
We have serious batting problems, without a ridiculous score from a number 11 on debut and fight from the tail in the second innings we would have lost by hundreds. Our bowling is pretty decent, not of so much concern and we have a couple of other great bowlers we could also play.
Ashton Agar could eventually become the joker in the pack batting-wise if we have a strong, consistent top five I think.
In an ideal world (or maybe fantasy land!) you could play the keeper/batsman at 6, Agar at 7 and the four quicks. However I agree with Kyle at the moment - we need a settled top five before we go down that path.
The days of Slater/Taylor/Boon/M. Waugh/S.Waugh or Hayden/Langer/Ponting/Martyn/S.Waugh were halceyon days where we used to ride roughshod over everyone and rack up enormous totals.

Absolutely. Impatience won't win you Test matches......Usual suspects chasing wide deliveries: Watson, Cowan, and even Hadds was going the tonk late in the game when the field was spread and singles were on offer almost everywhere - he was lucky Finn dropped that chance in the outfield - but no need to be playing like that. Get 'em in singles.....

Fair enough changes, if the story is correct, and I hear England is having a heatwave, with temps near 30 degrees - smirk - we'd still need a jumper down here at that summer temp, gee it is 23 degrees right now in sunny mid-winter Melbourne......
Least the game should go the distance weather-wise. Let's see how the Aussies bounce back considering all what's been going on - and will keep an eye out on Pup's/Watto's body language too!!
