I think this was inevitable once he got dropped to reserve grade. It is a real shame, he is a classic halfback in an era when there are not many and he only showed glimpses of what he is capable of!

Lockyer wasn't on a contract of $275,000 his whole career he was on closer to $500,000 most of it. His last contract was $275,000
