Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

Well as I said in the Nets thread, I'm still iffy if I want Dwight on the team or not. If we keep Lopez and Hump then I'm pretty happy with that for the most part. However, having Dwight WOULD be great - just don't think we NEED him and I am a bit worried about his back, don't want to go another season without a C.

^ I guess the "friendship" between Allen and Rondo kinda helped Allen sign with MIA...

It sucks that the good teams are getting better right now, but then again, some of the badder teams are getting good too. Just not sure which one of those two the Mavs slot into, LMAO!!

I STILL don't understand Brooklyn's trade packages. Seriously, and I'm sure someone else, ala OKC or CHI, etc, could package a better deal than anyone out there, have a serious run at the championship, let Dwight go if his arse won't re-sign, and spend the $18m on someone big in the off season. It's certainly do-able, and IMO, a better plan than to ship him to the Nets for Lopez, and a bunch of picks. They still need to lock up Lopez, which is most likely via S&T with Brookly, and in which case, does ORL get a say in the contract? What if they're not happy with the $ value?

Just doesnt make sense to me!

I read on that form Andy posted above, that apparently the Cavs GM was one that opposed the CP3 trade, as they were against good teams getting better, which are doing the same thing right now, in helping Brooklyn load up on stars... D-Will, JJ, Crash & Dwight is a solid 4/5. I don't imagine their bench will be nicely filled out, but role players don't have to play big minutes to be successful. Just ask MIA.

I'm not really sure what you "don't understand". If you have D Will, Crash, JJ, Dwight, you don't NEED much else. Guys fill roles down the line easily. Just like Miami did. They had "nobody" on the bench, but when you get given a defined role to focus on you can play off those All stars around you.

I can't see the Nets winning the chip next season, but they'll be up there, then they'll attract some more guys, veterans and go real close the next season.

Good teams are allowed to get better. The owners just have to pay even more luxury tax now. The Nets owner is crazy rich and apparently does'nt care how much he pays.

Why would OKC package any deal? They are still on the rise and have level headed guys that don't act like spoilt brats which is how Dwight acts.

The bulls could've packaged a deal but no-one wants Boozer and they would'nt send Noah, then Rose said he does'nt want anyone to be moved.

Well if you want to just stay in the playoffs and maybe make the 2nd round. Sure, you don't need Dwight. But, if you actually want to challenge, THEN YOU WILL NEED DWIGHT.

im with you man id rather Brooklyn without howard.

I read somewhere on Twitter

That in the 3 Way Deal

We get Humphries and Marshon Brooks or the Nets 1st Round Pick

Not sure what year but I'd Rather Brooks easliy!

well looks like hinrich will be a Bull again and CJ watson (and maybe brewer and kover) won't be renewed. Seriously this the best the could do, I would rather keep the other players?

on another note,

for those who dont know, the cap rules have changed under the new CBA. probably explains why the Free agents has seen some major overtime this year.

There is a hard cap of 74million (meaning can't go into luxury tax) and a soft cap (that allows you to go into luxury tax). Something to do with midrange contracts of 5million plus 8% increase per year vs 3million plus 4.5% increase per year will depend on which cap you go under.

That is all i know if anyone wants to expand for me that be great.

Mavs making moves

The Dallas Mavericks have had talks with Rafael Hettsheimer but haven't made an offer to the Brazilian center, a source close the situation said Monday. Website Basketeria.com.br (in Portuguese) reported that the Mavs have made an offer to the 6-foot0-10, 260-pounder who has been playing in Spain, similar to the path taken by San Antonio Spurs forward Tiago Splitter. The source said the Mavs have had talks with the Brazilian but reports of an offer are premature. ESPN.com

Another one wants to go to the Heat

After agreeing to a contract buyout with the Utah Jazz, guard Raja Bell wants to explore the possibility of signing with his hometown Miami Heat, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Los Angeles Lakers also could emerge as a potential destination for Bell, sources said. Bell, 35, played his high school and college basketball in Miami. Bell chose a three-year deal with the Jazz over less money with the Lakers two years ago, despite a hard recruiting sell by Kobe Bryant. With addition of Steve Nash, the Lakers are in the market for defensive-minded guards to play off the bench. Bell has been considered one of the NBA’s toughest veteran guards, but his skills have declined as he's aged. Nevertheless, Bell could still bring significant value and presence in limited minutes for a contender. Yahoo! Sports

Mavs looking to sign a non-NBA experienced international big... hmmm, not something they're usually doing... pfft... ridiculous.

So many talented, and already experienced FAs still looking for a home and we want to talk to Sessions and some dude we've never heard of!

woohoo camby a knick again :D

http://tracking.si.com/2012/07/10/marcus-camby-knicks-free-agency-sign-rockets-new-york/

Marcus Camby has agreed to sign a three-year, $13.2 million deal with the New York Knicks, Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported on Twitter Monday night. The deal is part of a sign-and-trade between the Knicks and Houston Rockets. In return, the Rockets will receive Toney Douglas, Jerome Jordan, Josh Harrellson and two second-round picks.

The Knicks had been reported as the front-runners for Camby after the Miami Heat signed free-agent guard Ray Allen over the weekend. The San Antonio Spurs and Brooklyn Nets had also expressed interest in signing Camby.
Because they executed a sign-and-trade with the Rockets, the Knicks can now sign point guard Jason Kidd, their other prized free-agent acquisition, to their full mid-level exception. The Knicks also intend to match the four-year, $28.8 million offer sheet that point guard Jeremy Lin recently signed with the Rockets.
The 38-year-old Camby played in 59 games last season with the Rockets and Portland Trail Blazers. He averaged 4.9 points and nine rebounds per game.

In the proposed deal, Howard, Jason Richardson and Earl Clark would be sent to Brooklyn, and the Magic would receive the Nets' Brook Lopez, Damion James, Sheldon Williams, Cleveland's Luke Walton and three future first-round picks, sources said. Cleveland would receive Orlando's Quentin Richardson, Brooklyn's Sundiata Gaines, Kris Humphries (on a one-year guaranteed deal), a first-round pick and $3 million from the Nets. Brooklyn also would send Brooks to a fourth team to get them an additional first-round pick to send to the Magic.

Just going up on ESPN. Clipoers will be 4th team in D Howard deal. They would take back MarShon Brooks in return for a lottery protected 1st

Pacers keeping Hibbert

Woohoo, I knew they would.

Wow, this Howard deal is getting more complex by the day, but realistically Nets r giving up Humphries, Lopez, Brooks and draft picks for Howard. Leaves them with a Fanastic 4 of DWill, JJ, Crash and Howard. Now they just have to see which remaining FA's want to sign with a 'chip contender for cheap, sign a few veterans to minimum salaries and they're set to challenge Heat.
