Captains Signature Set - released in approx 2 weeks

Wang = Steve Wang, owner of Card Zone (biggest card store in Australia in Melbourne) and exclusive distributor of Select products.

I just had another look at the checklist of this signed set. It is a very good concept......HOWEVER:

a) The first 8 personally autographed captains (Morris, Craig, Benaud, Harvey, Simpson, Booth, Lawry & Jarman) all signed in the 1995 Futera Heritage set ALONG WITH 4 other captains - Bradman, Bill Brown, Ian Johnson and Ray Lindwall (3 invincibles and another legend of Australian cricket!).
b) Both Chappells + Border, Taylor, Waugh, Gilchrist, Ponting & Clarke have all previously signed with Futera and/or Select.
c) That leaves only Yallop and Hughes as the only ones in this set not to have signed cards before (and Yallop only captained in 7 Tests during the weakened era of WSC)

So I am really struggling to justify dropping $1400 on this set when I already have 16 of the 18 autos.....especially when I can pick up the fascimile set for $150. :( :-k

The value is in the set of all the same cards not various signatures from different series also apart from the Heritage Captain Signature set All the other signatures are out of 1000. This is out of 200 & their is how you justify the value. Also the current signature cards are of better quality than the Futura Signature cards(which in my opinion looks cheap)

Then again I could be wrong, previous releases were limited to 500, this is limited to 200. So realistically there is less of a chance of finding these at half price in the future.

I forgot about Wang, if his is holding on to 100 then he will be controlling the future value.

That's very true Raj. Although i can see Wang trying to sell these for $2000 in 5 years time (unsuccessfully!).

You would think that the 100 going on channel 9 during the test would sell pretty well.

Also I think the facsimile set of 700 is way overpriced and wont sell well. I think that will be going on ebay pretty cheap in the future.

I've got a fair grasp on the value of a set over individual autos - my point is that any serious collector already has 16 of these 18 autos - the first 8 already in a set also signed by Bradman, and the other 8 (except Clarke) have all appeared on signature cards numbered to 150 or less, not of 1000 like you said. only Yallop and Hughes are new autos.

Fantastic research, i was kind of thinking the same thing in which players had or hadnt signed.

A true collector collects all signatures from varoius series. They don't stop collecting a signature because they have it from a previous series ALL the FUTURA signatures are from 1000 ie: 94/95 6 set signatures. Select signatures are 100 or 150. Even if you don't count the printed captain cards in this release you still have 18 signed cards works out at $75.00 each & you get the folder & other cards for free. VERY CHEAP for a LIMITED Edition of 200.:woot:

Has anyone worked out how they are numbered?.

According to Cardzone's listing:

"Individually numbered Certificate Of Authenticity
Each card and album set is individually numbered to 200."

No pressure guys. Just letting you know, I'll be placing an order for these Monday AM. If you want in on a set, PM me today/tomorrow. If you miss out, I'm sure we can go back for more later on. Just concerned that they might go quick if it's true that Steve Wang has purchased 100 sets already.

I will be breaking a set to sell on Ebay. They should arrive here Wednesday, hopefully, and I will scan the individual cards and list them by Friday all going well.

Cheers Glenn

Good luck mate, i think they will be worth more individually, will you be auctioning them or selling them BIN?

In cardzone again today to take another look at this set and I must say that the box and album are presented very well, top quality and Steve says that he has already sold his first 20 and his second shipment arrived today.Did overhear him on the phone to the person who ordered box #50 0f 200 and it had a small crease on the front of the box, guy said he would still take it though. I guess being #50 of 200 he thinks its worth the risk having a "milestone" box set. Also noticed that he had sold box set #100 so if you are hoping for one of those for anyone thats ordered one sorry to disappoint. Heard him also say that he got a special price for the first 20 sets thats why he could give the guy on the phone the set for $1200 instead of $1395(Is $1200 around the price you were told Nazim). He later told me that because they were selling so well that he would probably be putting the price up to $1800 sooner rather than later. Good old Steve doesn't seem to know when to just leave the price where it is.:)

if this is true then its the very reason i hate steve and cardzone. the price should stay exactly where it is until sold out. he is a disgrace.

God he is a f*cking d*ck.

This is why he will be sitting on a heap of these in 5 years time.

Given he is still trying to sell the Futera Heritage sets he bought after 15 years you would think he would know better.

Thanks for the info Matthew, very interesting to hear how Steve is managing the sale of this set.

I wonder what price Channel 9 will be selling at? Probably $1395 if that is the price on the website.

I agree with you Daz he should just leave the price as is. His pricing strategy makes no sense at all.

Obviously he hasn't learnt. He did say that who produced the cards wanted them to sell for $1800 but the market was soft at the moment and suggested $1395 would be better now he has sold some he is already looking at the extra $$$ that he can make. Definitely won't be able to jack the price up until channel 9 have sold theirs.

the company that produced these have marketed them at $1395, so what makes Steve think he can up the price? its just crap. if they are selling well then leave them and they will sell out and be very hard to come by later down the track, this would be good for the hobby and make Steve some quick money. lets hope that because he's not the only one selling these sets that if he ups the price he will get no sales at all and be stuck with a heap. he can do this with Select crap because he has the most dodgy deal going to completely control the market by only selling small amounts to other sellers and the rest to be kept by cardzone. the more companies that produce trading style cards the better, footcards.com are having a good go at AFL which is good, Futera have been planning more cricket for the future, all these plus a little bit more competition is great and should start to push select and cardzone out, or atleast make them realise they dont own the card world here in Oz.
