I am now drawing a line in the sand and I put it to OZCT members to ban the use of sticky tape on Top Loaders, I have a pile of useless Top Loaders that I have received in trades on here that are in a drawer and all stuck together. I now use them to send cards in on other trades on OZCT, it creates a vicious cycle.

I received some a few weeks ago that would not come out of the bubble mailer due to the sticky remnants on the outside of it, I think this particular top loader has done up to 10 trades on OZCT before ending up in the middle of my pile.

Now what I have started doing is wrapping the top loaders ready for postage in a piece of A4 paper, you can wrap them side by side in pretty big piles if need be, then once wrapped, go to town with the sticky tape.

Who is with me? I have had enough of this deplorable action of covering top loaders in tape, wrap them in a team bag or paper before taping.

PS: apologies for the rant but just spent half an hour peeling back tape on a heap of cards, but seriously it does drive me crazy and a waste of top loaders, and no I am not going to bother cleaning them with oil etc.

You're 100% spot on here.

The sticky tape is a hassle.

I do exactly what you said. I place card in a toploader and then wrap it in a piece of A4 paper and then tape that.

Does the EXACT same thing as taping the end of a toploader so cards don't come out.

It can be scrap paper which most should have around the house.

I know the traders I've sent it to have appreciated it.

A toploader taped at the end isn't the best IMO.

Like Jaames says, I'm the same, as long as the cards gets to me safely, but this is a much better way of doing things:thumbsup:

I have about 20 crappy toploaders with tape all over them, I don't send them on though, I may do if I get desperate, ha ha.

Heaps of sticky tape that go around and around the top loader in not needed. However i would prefer that a piece of sticky tape is placed over the open end of the top loader to form a seal and that the top loader is then put into a team bag.

As Aleksandr from Compare the Meerkat puts it

SIMPLES

My Two Cents...

when i buy cards the are normally taped.
the old crappy and taped toploaders i have here are then the ones i use to send cards out to others.

I dont charge for toploaders, so am not going to by you a shiny new one every card sorry..........
i make sure the card is SAFE that is all...

i even just recently bought a BULK lot of the toploaders for the long cards (forget what they are called sorry)
and have begun using them, and to make sure the cards are safe from bending and moving i cut them to size.
Why.... because the were CHEAP, still PROTECT THE CARD..... but they dont look pretty sorry,
this might sound blunt but deal with it...
you are buying the CARD.. not a toploader.

I understand the use of the top loader and to ensure the card gets there safely but why ruin a top loader? i just re-use the skanky old sticky ones, but damm they are terrible.

i never ruin a good one.
but if i already have "crappy" ones i will use them...
I even stick the toploader to the inside of the bubble mailer...

how many of you have had mailers torn open and arrive empty?
that little bit of tape might make sure it stays where it is meant to if it is torn open....
TAPE IS YOUR FRIEND!!! :)

Iv got a draw full of top loaders new and used dont care bout the stickyness pull it apart get it ready to send and send it dont bother me aslong as the card aint wrecked im happy most the time i get cards that dont have sticky tape on the top loader at all and i get a card thats fallen out but luckily aint damaged

I put it in a sleeve, top loader, paper on top of the opening sticky tape that to the top loader protect it with cardboard and put it in a bubble mailer i get great feedback everytime how well protected etc i even had one person say it was over protected but wateva

Point is who cares :D

Or, as demonstrated by another member on here (who we shall call 'anonymous Bru', why don't you use electrical tape? Leaves less residue than all the others and if you fold back the end of the piece, it is easy to remove too!

I do hate sticky tape on the top loaders that is why i use a team bag keeps the top loader in good condition and can be reused, the reason why i hate sticky tape is because i have had it taped up where the card is not going to fall out but have a bad time tring to get the tape off because they dont want me to get to the card.

has anyone tried using a standard pencil eraser and rub off the sticky???

thats what i do to the good condition ones. the scratched/old ones i send off to others :)

it can be annoying yes but at the end of the day if u want the card in a good case buy a 1touch or top loaders. used ones are good for the outers of cards to protect them..

I do agree the tape is anoyying but u gotta take whatever u can get these days

Its not about keeping the top loader for displaying your card, but imagine these two scenarios:

1. You get home from work and there is a bubble mailer in the mailbox, you grab it and run inside with anticipation, you rip open the bubble mailer and find a piece of paper wrapped in sticky tape, you rip open that paper to find a clean top loader with your new prize possession gleaming like a pot of gold, your wife and kids come over and bask in its glory.

or

2. You come home from a shocking day at work and find a bubble mailer in the letter box mixed in with a few bills, you trudge inside and open the bills, get angry because electricity is nearly making you get a second mortgage, then you remember the bubble mailer, you open it and find inside this plastic case covered in sticky residue with 5 layers of tape on the end, you still cannot make out the card, you get through the third layer and there is hope you will have it open before dinner, but alas, that last little bit you tore of is stuck to your shirt and then you look down and find a little stuck to the carpet, you eventually get the damm thing open and check the prize out inside, but you say meh and throw it on the pile with the rest.

Which one would you rather :P

Im all for sticky tape on my top loaders. Would much rather have them secured tightly in the top loader by sticky tape than have the possibility that the card moves and the top edge gets damaged because the team bag is not secured properly.

Dont know about anyone else but i find the operation of a pair of scissors to open a top loader pretty simple.:p

LONG LIVE THE STICKY TAPE!
