I don't think it's the same thing.
T-Mac has not played well in the NBA for years.
That would be like giving Penny Hardaway a hard time for his team being on the bottom of the Chinese League.
Not the same players.
T-Mac could also be playing with the worst players in the League? He seems to be getting his ok.
I'm just hoping to see him get a few mins with the mighty Spurs AND produce a little.
Never been massive on T-Mac but the guy could flat out go in his day.
Everyone loves a comeback.
Well, I beg to differ although I do agree it would be great if he came back and contributed to the Spurs' winning efforts.
I actually watch the CBA and guys like Shavlik Randolph, Quincy Douby and Pooh Jeter are tearing it up.
Donnell Harvey and David Harrison are almost as old and they are doing fine there too.
The truth is, it's a very low-level league and a guy like McGrady should dominate it blindfolded with his left arm amputated and a 300-pound gorilla on his back.
His teammates are sh*t, it's true, but most of the teams there are, and the bottom 5-10 teams are equally worthless.
No reason at all why a team with T-Mac should finish last with the general lack of talent there is.
McGrady is expected to carry his team, he's paid more than all his teammates and coaches combined so I think the basic expectation is that he would lead them to the playoffs at least.
And 20-5-5 is not really okay in the CBA because they play iso on every single possession and there are crappier players averaging huge numbers there.
The team Marbury led to the title last season was also a perennial doormat before he started working his magic

Spurs getting desperate now. They need to accept the fact they are finished. Played Shyte of late and banged up. Wrong time of year to be adding a piece to the puzzle. Jeff van gundy famously quoted he would be one of the best players of all time if he had a basketball iq. Throw that into the spurs system and what's going to happen?? I'm praying for a miracle but he is playing in china for a reason.
Cool bud, thanks for more info. You're right, ANY import should be taking their team to the playoffs, especially Mcgrady.
I saw he was getting 27/7/5 though? That's a little better stats.
I just hope he can give the Spurs something. A few boards here and there and a couple of 3's or a drive.
They'd only need what Jack gave them, 7-8 big points.
I'm keen to see how this plays out though.
Yes I do, what's your point?
Maybe because Carter is with the Mavs and it will be just a duplication of their roster spot.
Just the way you worded it sounded like you still thought he was in the CBA, that's all!!
Playing well in overseas basketball team = scrub in NBA. Renaldo Balkman is currently averaging 25ppg and 13 rpg in Philippines league, while his career NBA averages are 4ppg and 3.5rpg. TMac isn't going to be some sort of miracle waiting to happen. He is far far far far far worse than Stephen Jackson in terms of basketball ability at this point of his career. I feel sorry for Spurs fans that for the past few years, the Spurs dominate the regular season but just can't stay healthy enough in the post season. This move is clutching at straws. You've got old guys being banged up and you get another old guy with a history of injuries and doesn't even know the offense/defense as well as Capn Jack?

The Spurs have made a LIVING picking guys up from foreign Leagues. No one expects him to bang in 20pts. Go back and look at the box scores of the Spurs NBA Finals wins, I have a 16 game box set with all 4 wins from each Championship. Even S. Kerr only scored about 5-6PPG and Horry only had a couple of games over 10pts.
The Spurs need a guy that can some in and knock down a shot, Jack could do that and hopefully T-Mac can do it. It's a reach no doubt, but it's also a nice move to fill the 10-12 mins Jack was getting.
I'm looking forward to it. Hope gets some burn this weekend.
