Tmac a Spur?

Spurs getting desperate now. They need to accept the fact they are finished. Played Shyte of late and banged up. Wrong time of year to be adding a piece to the puzzle. Jeff van gundy famously quoted he would be one of the best players of all time if he had a basketball iq. Throw that into the spurs system and what's going to happen?? I'm praying for a miracle but he is playing in china for a reason.

all of those basketball pages on facebook are going crazy about his return...i really don't think he is going to do much. you dont just sign a player a few days before the playoffs. i hope he does well but i cant see him scoring at least over 12 points in a game.

I don't think it's the same thing.
T-Mac has not played well in the NBA for years.
That would be like giving Penny Hardaway a hard time for his team being on the bottom of the Chinese League.
Not the same players.
T-Mac could also be playing with the worst players in the League? He seems to be getting his ok.
I'm just hoping to see him get a few mins with the mighty Spurs AND produce a little.
Never been massive on T-Mac but the guy could flat out go in his day.
Everyone loves a comeback.

Well, I beg to differ although I do agree it would be great if he came back and contributed to the Spurs' winning efforts.

I actually watch the CBA and guys like Shavlik Randolph, Quincy Douby and Pooh Jeter are tearing it up.
Donnell Harvey and David Harrison are almost as old and they are doing fine there too.
The truth is, it's a very low-level league and a guy like McGrady should dominate it blindfolded with his left arm amputated and a 300-pound gorilla on his back.

His teammates are sh*t, it's true, but most of the teams there are, and the bottom 5-10 teams are equally worthless.
No reason at all why a team with T-Mac should finish last with the general lack of talent there is.
McGrady is expected to carry his team, he's paid more than all his teammates and coaches combined so I think the basic expectation is that he would lead them to the playoffs at least.
And 20-5-5 is not really okay in the CBA because they play iso on every single possession and there are crappier players averaging huge numbers there.
The team Marbury led to the title last season was also a perennial doormat before he started working his magic :D

Cool bud, thanks for more info. You're right, ANY import should be taking their team to the playoffs, especially Mcgrady.

I saw he was getting 27/7/5 though? That's a little better stats.

I just hope he can give the Spurs something. A few boards here and there and a couple of 3's or a drive.

They'd only need what Jack gave them, 7-8 big points.

I'm keen to see how this plays out though.

I've seen a few people jump back on the Spurs bashing again. Finished is a little strong. They certainly can't rely on Manu anymore, Parker's just unlucky.

They do need more youth though.

There's also NO guarantees who gets to come out of the West anyway. My pick has been Memphis for the last 2 months. Even if the Spurs are at full health.

Don't underestimate that Popovich is scheming here also, the T-Mac is a sign of desperation but it's also a smart move.

Loads of teams have done the exact same thing just before the playoffs. Didn't the Celts pick up Sheed very close to playoff time a few years back when they lost to L.A?

OKC has now grabbed Fisher TWICE.

The Spurs are now counted out, which is 100% exactly where they want to be.

If the Spurs get through the 1st round (which will be tough) and they play the Clippers, then I'm backing the Spurs:thumbsup: I think the Clips have weaknesses.

Haha no prob mate! Usually nobody wants to hear about CBA stories :P

Any import might be a bit unfair, each team has two except for the Army team which has none and the bottom teams which can have three, and basically the play revolves entirely around the import players while most Chinese guys just stand around and watch.
I do think McGrady is an incredible talent though, so I guess more should be expected out of him. He didn't play badly by any stretch of the imagination but he's so good and so popular that there were fans predicting a title run for his team initially.

I do hope the Spurs take this playoffs in the name of team play haha, and I think McGrady should still have some magic left in his bag! :D

Don't forget that role players don't need to make an impact. They're there to provide an option if/when needed. The Spurs are loaded with vets, so adding another one doesnt hurt.

I'd imagine he'd be a defensive liability these days. It'd be hard for him to have lost his shot, once a scorer, always a scorer (heck, even Starbury was averaging well overseas, and he's a spud!).

I think it's really good for him, could open the doors to another roster spot next Season (either as a Spur or elsewhere), we just need to focus on what he WILL bring, as opposed to what he CAN bring.

Maybe because Carter is with the Mavs and it will be just a duplication of their roster spot.

Carter is more of a 3 than a 2, and we (Mavs) kept boasting about these 10-day contracts for "combo" guards, when they only played minimal minutes in scap time. Anthony Morrow was traded for, and he's barely played an hour of game time.

Just the way you worded it sounded like you still thought he was in the CBA, that's all!!

I'm not sure if you know this, but the CBA season has already ended. That's why Randolph is on the Celtics' roster.
Just for Boston alone, Terrence Williams and DJ White were playing in the CBA this season too.

Playing well in overseas basketball team = scrub in NBA. Renaldo Balkman is currently averaging 25ppg and 13 rpg in Philippines league, while his career NBA averages are 4ppg and 3.5rpg. TMac isn't going to be some sort of miracle waiting to happen. He is far far far far far worse than Stephen Jackson in terms of basketball ability at this point of his career. I feel sorry for Spurs fans that for the past few years, the Spurs dominate the regular season but just can't stay healthy enough in the post season. This move is clutching at straws. You've got old guys being banged up and you get another old guy with a history of injuries and doesn't even know the offense/defense as well as Capn Jack?

Is he allowed to still play basketball!?!??!?! Thought he'd be expelled after choking his own team mate!

The Spurs have made a LIVING picking guys up from foreign Leagues. No one expects him to bang in 20pts. Go back and look at the box scores of the Spurs NBA Finals wins, I have a 16 game box set with all 4 wins from each Championship. Even S. Kerr only scored about 5-6PPG and Horry only had a couple of games over 10pts.

The Spurs need a guy that can some in and knock down a shot, Jack could do that and hopefully T-Mac can do it. It's a reach no doubt, but it's also a nice move to fill the 10-12 mins Jack was getting.

I'm looking forward to it. Hope gets some burn this weekend.
