TLA Traders 2021 Official Thread

The options really are endless. TLA should run a comp and have a prize for best idea of a subset.

Looking at images from GCTC, the Wildcard and Rising Stars look nice but gees there are a lot of parallel versions.

- Rising Stars and a parallel version as an album card
- Group Wildcard and a parallel version in the priority (you could argue that the Group WC is a parallel of the three singles also)
- Startoons - 5 variants !!
- Street Art White and SA Black
- Club Heroes and a parallel version in the priority
- Three Authentic variants (I really don't get why a low end release needs a /58 on card signature version)
- Retirement and Retirement parallel as a case card
- Legends signature and Legends case card. I am actually on board with this one but it has been stuffed by not having earlier years numbered and then not producing the CC at all in 2019. If you are going to have an ongoing series like this, it makes sense to keep the production run the same every year. I think they were /325 in 2017 and last year were /50.

One image that I saw last year that was done as a mock up by a designer was this one featuring Nathan Cleary.

These look like the Fleer Metal Universe cards but even something like this as a case hit would be cool.

Have them on a refractor type board stock and I think they would be great!

Not hard to come up with some new and fresh ideas is it?
Hows Tyson Beck doing the designs for AFL team coach?

Other than the Dally M set in elite, TLA rarely designs sets around playing excellence. Perhaps Wild Card offers hope as the player selections are pretty good, they could drill down so many areas:
- bomb defusers (great def FBs)
- offload threats
- 40/20 masters
- try assist kings
- fan favourites, with crowd banners etc in background
- set of 5 best “spines” (admittedly not the best for 9-card pages) but how can they not have zeroed in on The Spine! They could even have fun with an actual spine X-ray effect on the card.
But no, we get concepts like elite “quads” 🙄, a term that has never been used in the history of rugby league except when a player strains one.

2017 elite had Elite Impact which was a spine focused set tbf, they've had things like Return to sender, custodian, run&gun that have seemed to be somewhat positional focused

Yeah, startoons are played out. Such a random selection of players at times too. At least if they focused on a position each year or captains or something

I reckon most of us would agree that some kind of Dally M, Clive Churchill, etc medal predictors with maybe a sig version of the Dally M one would be a set that would be welcomed year after year in traders.

Let’s say Dally M, 2 players per team and a wild card, numbered to 250 of each. Then a signature version (one per team) numbered to 50.

I forgot about Impact set to be honest! But more my point was a set of the best 3 or 5 spines, not every spine. Like Custodians, it was a set that featured every team’s fullback, it didn’t showcase the best fullbacks. I know what that could mean for collectors of clubs that are running poorly, but I’d rather there be more smaller insert sets of great players than large inclusive sets. Still reckon the 94 Dynamic gold and top ten were among the best executed sets and there wasn’t a Panther in sight. Cool designs, great players and small enough a set to complete without spending a fortune.

Probably one of the better ideas I’ve heard . Almost a no brainer now you say it . The Dally M and Clive Churchill medal winners with auto cards could be done up real nice with the medal as part of the background and the player wearing them . The Churchill would look good with a pic of the player on the GF stage 👌

Just saw the back of a predictor. Only the premiership winning team predictors are redeemable for a ‘special card’.
On the one hand, it’s less confusing. On the other hand, is there a certain limitation on how many of these predictors can be redeemed like previously?

Without knowing for certain, I would say all 230 of the premiership winning predictor are redeemable. The premiership winning predictor has always been redeemable as a single card with the limitation on full sets.

👎

Pretty explicit wording too. I wonder if they'll get backlash and change their minds. It's not like they haven't changed it before on predictors. Last year from 20 sets to 50 for example.
Or 2017 where there was nothing in place aside from the premiership winning team (like this year) and they then allowed 20 full sets for a gold parallel version of the premiership set.

After viewing diggaz break last night, and seeing what is available from other groups ie. topend i must say i like some of the cheaper inserts. They do look very nice.I will chase the retirements, but not at the asking prices at the moment.Good luck to everyone in their chase to get what they want.☺

Some of the low end inserts look like high end inserts and the high end ones look like low end inserts!

The Wild Cards and Rising Stars look really nice, as do the Season to Remember.

I managed to grab the Panthers Base set, Parallel Set, and all the Panthers Wild Cards, Rising Stars and S2R for $30 last night.

Think I'm done for Traders this year.
