Yeah that makes sense. But I’m talking about ones where lots of people post pics (without prices) and try to start discussions and no reply.

Some of mine say “PM me if interested”.

So I guess of course they just might not be interested.

So maybe it’s just a courtesy thing.

If someone bothered to post in reply to something I ‘wanted’ I’d give them the courtesy of a thank you message and advise them I’m not interested in taking further.

So maybe that’s what bugs me - the lack of common courtesy.

Happens way too much in this hobby.

What's more annoying is when you get a response and they agree to purchase the card(s), only to ghost you when it comes to actually paying for them. Whilst being very active buying/selling with other people at the same time.

I'm planning to put on here soonish some "Wanted" posts.
Asking for card at your best price (I wont haggle), PM me and after 4 days
for example I'll get back to all replies with an answer.
So everyone knows where they stand.
Issue can be you put a list out of high end cards of say 5 but only have enough $$
for a couple of them.
In the end communication is what's it's all about, simple.

I think I just did my last ever grading submission period. I've seen the chatter on forums regarding the inconsistency and harsher grades at PSA but this took the cake. I sent in 18 cards. 8 of them were Upper Deck Young Guns cards which have a high Gem rate generally - especially the Canvas YG's. The other 10 cards were a mixture of pc cards.

I took extra care with the Young Guns part of the order - my seventh with PSA - because getting a PSA9 on a Young Guns card is as good as raw( maybe worse) which means 25USD flushed per card. I generally get between a 60%-75% Gem rate on the Young Guns card. Of the Canvas Young Guns all 8 cards I have submitted across multiple orders have received a PSA10.

This order I only got 3 of the 8 to Gem which is 38% roughly off the top of my head and the rest got 9's including the two cards I thought were the dead set certs of the bunch. If I take out the 2 canvas Young Guns cards ( 1X10 and 1X 9) I got 2 out of 6 Young Guns to gem which is 33% on a card that should have around a 70%+ gem rate. That is a joke when you consider that I took the most care with this order and got the worst ever result.

In short. I'm pissed off with PSA.

I will not do another order with them. And therein lies the problem. It was the best way to offset the financial damage done by breaking diluted overpriced wax.

Not a happy camper.

Edit - I believe PSA are trying to control pop reports in an order to combat the reality that were are in the middle of a 1990's like junk wax era. Panini have done their bit with horrible QC but clearly that is not enough.

That'll do. Had to vent. Bring on Thursday night "footy'.

I just looked at my last sub. I had 11 of 14 Young Guns cards Gem. I'm even more pissed off after seeing that.

From nearly 80% Gem rate to 38%. That is F...........d

And that on top off pulling a $4 auto last week from a $300 hobby box of 2022 Bowman - base pitching auto of a guy who hasn't played for 2 years and was pitching in relief at low A! The worst auto I've ever pulled from a box of Bowman.

And then yesterday two autos out of a $360 box of SPA Hockey which wouldn't be worth $15 combined.

I honestly feel better losing all my money at the races. At least you have some chance at success.

I often have this argument with my brother. The price for boxes are so high, you might as well just buy the card you want from that set.
I found a cool looking box the other day for roughly $700 or $800 AUD.

Then did my research to find the cards I’d be hoping to pull (at very unlikely odds of course.

The 2 main cards I’d love were $75 and $140 on eBay.

Ummmmmmm

I spent a bit of time today looking at my next box to buy.

Really struggling to find anything I’d consider to be decent value for money.
It's a real dilemma because since 2019 there hasn't been any value in American sports - especially NBA and NFL which went 5X overnight in 2020.

Box prices are coming down but they are still nowhere as low as they should be because print runs have at least tripled in the last 4 years making it much harder to hit anything decent.

When I watch NBA being broken I'm still shocked at what people are paying for Court Kings and similar products. If I were buying an NBA product, which other than a couple of 2020-21 Donruss blasters for $70 each!( I haven't bought hobby boxes of NBA since March 2020) I'd buy a retail box of 2021-22 Prizm. It's about $180 which is getting close to where it was when 2019-20 first released. It has a limited ceiling, astronomical print run but you're a chance to pull some silver rookies of the better guys. It's still likely to be a waste of money though.

Like others have said it's way better just buying singles. No where near as much fun but at least you are getting some value.

It's a no brainer really. I'm really keen on getting a Tim Stutzle SPA Future Watch auto. I'd really love to have one as I think he's an awesome young player. They go for around $450USD which is alot of money for me. However, I just spent $660 on two boxes of crud which netted me maybe $70 worth of cards all up.

Like a lot of folks I'm somewhat addicted to opening wax but it's getting less and less enjoyable as the value keeps dropping. I'll try to save my money and the next time I'm thinking of buying $600 worth of wax hopefully I'll buy a Tim Stutzle FWA.

P.S. The box that Stutzle's FWA is found in goes for $240USD and the chances of hitting him are about 100-1.

Have you bought cards from Canada off eBay? I used to buy regularly from a couple of dealers until they jacked up their shipping price. Would only charge like 8-10 AUD for shipping. The conversation rate is almost on par with the AUD so it makes it a lot easier.

How good is Stutzle. I've started collecting hockey the last few months as I get as much enjoyment pulling a YG and canvas from retail. The flagship hobby boxes for $70usd during sales are value I feel. True YG/Rookie cards I can come back to years down the line without the 100s of variations needing to chase. I've got a stack of top YG cards from last 3 years too waiting to send off but I might reconsider after reading this post.
How do hockey cards look in SGC slabs?

I’ve started doing this the past couple of years. Opening boxes can be fun, but if you hit rubbish it just leaves you feeling flat. I just buy what I want and let the breakers buy the boxes.

Seriously. I'll let someone else pay through the nose to open product and also end up with all the fodder on their hands, while I just buy the singles I want AND save a shitload of money at the same time.
