The OFFICIAL OLYMPIC MENS BASKETBALL Thread

111-104 with about 2 mins left, US should have the gold in the bag now...

Wade without a doubt the MVP, hes been great every game for the US, especially this one.

And the Logie for ****test coverage goes to 7

Damn they really tested this USA Team, great to see. The last thing anyone wanted was a Gold Medal Game Blow Out.

Flawless Record for this team, are they up there with the original Dream Team? At least success wise? Dare I tread on sacred ground...

I still can't beleive they went to an AFL match during the bronze medal match....

Channel 7 should have done this: show all there normal tv stuff on normally on normal TV....and show all the Olympic coverage on digital (and HD as well)
if you want to watch the AFL...switch it over to normal TV..if you want to continue watching the olympics - switch over to digital.....SIMPLE!......god.....

i think that gold medal game would have to be probably the worst coverage of any matches in the olympics....by far...

yeah that's true. they switch to the news in the 4th quarter.

best gold medal match for the basketball we've seen in quite a few olympics though the execution on both teams was seemingly flawless for a lot of it, Spain did a hell of a job to stay in it and composed, not break down by the US pressure.

great game by Wade he was just disruptive, he was the game changer, regardless of what anyone says. if you saw him picking off the steals getting to the line and hitting the big jumper, without Wade this game Spain would have had it by 10.

Yea channel 7 should be fired from hosting the olympics for ever after that performance.

One of the best international games i have ever seen, let no one knock either spain or the USA, both teams played hard and were extremely entertaining, i think most of us could have happily watched another quarter or two!

The one thing that bugged me about FIBA rules is that it does not reward good post players, most of the big guys in international play just rebound and try and tip the ball and play defense, hardly useful to have the best centre in the NBA in that aspect :S

I really felt if amare did not opt out of USA basketball commitments due to recovery his knee, the USA would have dominated more.

they dominated big time anyway though - the gold medal match was their closest game of the whole thing.

also - i heard that the international 3 point line is moving out (not sure what distance - im hoping NBA range) so hopfully that will spread the floor more and allow for more post play

yea im not a fan of collapsing zone defense, anytime bosh or howard got the ball in the post or in the key they got swamped, international game is too much about 3 point shooting :S

used to love malone vs rodman in the post, we dont see that under FIBA rules :(

That was one of the worst pieces of sports coverage ever...for Channel 7 to go to news updates and then follow it with an ad break DURING ON COURT ACTION showed complete contempt for their viewers. I mean wait for a time-out or break in play FFS...I understand the need to go to news, that can be difficult to avoid and a nightmare for scheduling if it is moved but to come back and cram 10minutes of action in to round about 30 secs was simply ridiculous!!!

Let's hope Ch 9 cover the London Olympics smarter....they normally lift the bar with their sports coverage and they've got the 2010 Winter Olympics to practice on!!

as if you would go to an AFL match during the last day of the Olympic Games while the Olympic Gold Medal Game for Mens basketball is on the line!.....
honestly i think that was the last peice of basketball coverage to free to air australian TV.......there is NONE now........

lets not forget the Bronze Medal game........i would have liked to have watched that game......but 3 minutes into it the AFL came in. No affence to AFL....but if they wanted to watch that it should have been on paytv or something...

plus we didnt see the men get their gold medal, we REALLY had to watch "the heros of the games"...Channel 7's attitude - "your not good enough for us unless you win a Gold Medal" a Sliver might scrap you in...but its not gold so channel 7 just seem dissapointed when they come second in the OLYMPIC GAMES.....unbelievable

there is a funny little bit bout how bad 7 covered the basketball on the handle website, here it is
25/08/08 web editorial words: handle magazine

CHANNEL) SEVEN WAYS TO F--K UP YOUR OLYMPIC BASKETBALL BROASTCAST.

Appropriating David Lettermen’s style is never easy but we thought we’d celebrate the pathetic broadcast of the Beijing Olympic with a count down dedicated to Channel Seven…

THE TOP SEVEN SIGNS THAT YOU KNOW CHANNEL SEVEN IS BROADCASTING THE OLYMPIC BASKETBALL….

07.
Channel Seven skillfully avoids the use of actual sports commentators, making their hoops coverage more painful than hearing Mark Bradtke dropping sideline comments during NBL games on Fox Sports.

06.
The live broadcast is continually interrupted by endless replays of old medal coverage while they take unnecessary commercial breaks during live action but keep the cameras rolling when there is a timeout on the floor.

05.
One quarter of the Men’s basketball between Australia vs. Croatia is shown between “so-called” swimming highlights, while the entire Iran vs. Russia game is broadcast uninterrupted throughout Australia.

03.
Standing out as the Opals biggest threat, the US Women’s basketball team are completely ignored by Seven despite remaining undefeated in their preliminary round play. In their quick witted, best George Bush attempts to prove that “if you don’t see it, it doesn’t exist” Seven helps the Opals secure their first Gold by pretending the other good women’s teams aren’t in Beijing this year.

02.
The same Channel that refused to interview CJ Bruton and the members of the gold medal winning Commonwealth Games Boomers, despite promises made, are now all over the Boomers (and basketball) like they’re fans from way back.

01.
Kochie and Mel commentate the Boomers v USA game.

(Special thanks to William Hardie, Will Cowie, Benjamin Funnell and Ben Carthy for their input. Game recognize game, Channel Seven recognize the foot). Want to complain about Seven’s broadcast? If you live in Sydney, make sure to stand outside of the Channel Seven Sunrise window in Martin Place when Mel and Kosch return from China and make sure to hold up your sign that states “Your Olympic coverage can kiss my a--”.)

haha thats pretty funny...
lets all just not worry about it now and look forward to the upcoming NBA season...should be a good one.

I wonder how the USA players are going to play this season, they will be tired...especially Kobe and Pau going deep into the playoffs/Finals and all through the Olympics, then training camp coming up..should be interesting..

1 more thing i realized during the olympics is how much of a hard ass carmelo thinks he is.

didnt he learn after gettin suspended for slapping that he isnt a great fighter?

him and boozer pissed me off from the USA team.

boozer was exposed in this olympics in my opinion, as being slow, and not being athletic. He can get away with that in a slow paced NBA team, but he was clearly not up to scratch as a top level NBA power forward.

worst team usa selection imo, they should have taken al horford or shawn marion
