Puts us WAY over the cap and paying a load of tax.
House Will Continue To Call Boston Home
Celtics guard Eddie House, after a long deliberation that pushed his decision to today’s deadline, decided to exercise his player option and will remain with the team for next season.
As a result, the nine-year veteran will roam the 3-point line to the tune of approximately $2.9 million next season.
Marbury will be an unrestricted free agent beginning tomorrow and is excited about the possibility of making a title run again next season.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers has said he hopes Marbury will be back.
"I’m not trying to get a bunch of money,’’ Marbury said. "I know Boston doesn’t have a bunch of money. I’m not seeking out teams with more money. I want to play for a championship-contending team. I can’t play for a young team that’s not in a position to compete for a championship.
"I want to play in Boston. I’m not going to say that I don’t. But I know the way that business works. If I don’t come back it won’t be because of me.’’
As we told you last week on Sports Tonight the Celtics would love to get Rasheed Wallace to come off the bench this year. As we grow closer to the post July 1st NBA free agent signing period the chances of Rasheed wearing green this coming season are very good.
He is good friends with Keving Garnett and he has a great interest in coming here.
My gut tells me Rasheed Wallace will be come a Celtic soon.
Well Eddie House is back! Pretty cheap and when he is on he is just about the hottest shooter in the league no doubt. His defense improved and so to his ability to break a press.
Starbury will stay for a lower paypacket.
And the Celts are major frontrunners in the bid to sign Rasheed Wallace. Who would of thought that any team would take on Starbury AND Wallace but I guess this team is the only one that could.
Don't forget we get Powe 'The Laker killer' back also ;-)
So the 'new' Celts from last years playoffs have added KG, Powe, Wallace and up to scratch Marbury. Certainly a team that can play inside and out.
BBD isn't needed if we have Sheed. And I'm not putting my future hopes on BBD leading us to a title down the road like Rondo could with help. So lets chase that pot of gold now. All we need to do is get out of the East as then you only have to face the the Lakers not the Magic shooting the lights out and Cavs.
Not paying BBD 5M and up year after year will help. Of course we need to get the FA help to balance out. FA's wont get as much this year and of course taking a pay cut to play for a contender is always a sweetener
Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce joined president of basketball operations Danny Ainge and managing partner Wyc Grousbeck for a three-hour meeting with Wallace in Detroit yesterday, the Celtics offering a contract using their midlevel exception. But Wallace is apparently in no hurry to respond, preferring to weigh approaches from Charlotte, Cleveland, Orlando, and San Antonio, according to an NBA source.
Bill Strickland, Wallace’s agent, said in a text message that it was a “very good meeting; some contractual terms discussed, nothing agreed to.’’
Strickland added Wallace will be “meeting with a few more teams next week.’’
Here's the blurb from the Boston Globe:
The Boston Celtics have reached an agreement with Rasheed Wallace, according to a source.
Wallace is expected to get a two-year deal using the mid-level exception (expected to be about $5.6 million to $5.8 million).
Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce, owner Wyc Grousbeck, coach Doc Rivers, and president Danny Ainge met with Wallace last week. Wallace turned down overtures from Orlando and San Antonio to commit to Boston.
Garnett/Perk/Rasheed. Thats one mean back court.
Who would dare tread into the keyway now?
