The OFFICIAL 2009 AFL Finals Thread!

saints on their merry way to prelim... saint nick was phenomenal today

many of collingwood's guns were really held well by their saints opponents, didak, leon, o'bree, swan, daisy... none of them gave a yelp

wow what a day 1st of all saints won and 2nd of all i didnt get stabbed :) whats the odds of that? Nick Riewoldt you are a legend

Yes! that would be a dream come true, pies pizza delivery guy really struggles today, our man zac did a good job on him :)

Pies performed as expected. Saints performed as expected. Good game had by all. Go Crows and Doggies next week :D

Well all 4 tips this week and I'll put my 140 winnings on the crows to beat the Pies, and the doggies to finish off the Lions. Reiwoldt is great when not kicking for the win after the siren from a set shot hey?

Yes well done Saints, but settle down, yes Collingwood was well held (scorewise) and played poor footy, yes Riewoldt and Kosy smashed us in the forward line, yes Saint held many of our guns well, but when you really think about it, and I ask you to think about it. Saints did not play a Grand Final winning performance, In fact there were more fumbles and mistakes by both teams than I can ever imagine in a previous finals game. Presty was beaten for only the 3rd time this year by Riewoldt. You forget we lost our 'Dal Santo' in Pendleburry in the first minute of play and Collingwood played a gun down and 3 on the bench for the rest of the game, which in today's game is crucial to have full rotation to allow players to be rested quarter in and out and you could clearly see them struggling for pace after half time. Without Riewoldt putting his hand up and Montagna finding his game halfway through the second quarter, the Saints would have seen a very different result combining a few of those factors.
Will Saints win the flag, probably yes. Will they win it playing the way the did on Sunday against a full strength Geelong or Doggies. I'd say no. Will Collingwood lose to Adelaide? Most Likely due to momentum and losing such a key player in Pendles and Rocca most likely out (Kicked 2 in a game that saw low scoring and first time he's played since round 7). plus we only get a 5 day break between the game. So big loss, but I wouldn't write the pies off for a pre-lim against Geelong just yet as the game will be played on Pie turf. And we did play strongly at your home turf this year.

Yeah well said, we did play alot better then you when me got the momentum etc. We shouldve probley won by 10 goals but just did what we needed to do to win. This also shows that saints players over the last few weeks have been playing very self conscience as they had nothing really to play for and didnt want to injure themselves.

Broken leg won't keep Pendlebury from finals

Broken leg won't keep Pendlebury from finals - AFL.com.au

COLLINGWOOD midfielder Scott Pendlebury could still play in the finals despite confirmation that he broke his leg in Sunday’s loss to St Kilda.

Pendlebury underwent surgery on Monday morning where he had a plate inserted to repair a cracked fibula but Collingwood chief of football operations Geoff Walsh said he could be in line for a recall if Collingwood’s season extended beyond this week.

“The reason we’ve done that is while there’s life there’s hope and there is some chance we can get him back playing in a timeframe a bit less than normal. Maybe two weeks or a bit beyond he will be available to play hopefully,” Walsh said.

“Our medical advice and surgeon’s advice is that we won’t affect him long-term by doing that which was obviously a major consideration. He’s had that repaired and plated. Fingers crossed he recovers quickly.”

Another Magpie who could be back quicker than originally expected is forward Anthony Rocca. The veteran injured his ankle late in the game but Walsh said he was still a chance to play against Adelaide.

“Anthony gave his ankle a decent tweak yesterday but he has improved a fair bit today. The swelling was up a bit straight after the game. It came down considerably today,” Walsh said

“It will be a day by day situation but it looks a bit better than last night.”

Walsh said Ryan Cook and Cameron Wood were in the mix for selection after impressive performance for Collingwood’s VFL side which defeated the Casey Scorpions by 115 points on Saturday.

“Ryan’s been very good for a number of weeks in the VFL. He is a midfielder with a good defensive slant. He played very well against Casey on the weekend. Ryan will be in contention as he was last week and as he’s been for the past couple of weeks,” he said.

“Cameron’s always a chance to play given his form and given the situation that he has faced most of the year where he has been just in or just out. If Josh has been unavailable he has been the no. 1 ruckman and performed that role pretty well. He dominated the rucks on Saturday in the VFL so he again didn’t do his chances any harm. He is certainly in the mix with or without Josh’s knee problem.”

So he's gonna recover from a broken leg in a week?

Shows courage from Pendalbury. great stuff, I'd rather play him than Rocca. Well done Ablett, he is a master. Can he finally win a brownlow though?

Hopefully, but the Brownlow isn't all that important. I'd rather him to win the MVP (which he did) or the Norm Smith Medal (we can only wait and see ;))

Rumours are he'd rather a Norm Smith than another flag...but that doesn't surprise me greatly.
