The Demons 2009 season thread.

Yeah and unlike North we haven't got non Dee's fans buying memberships to boost the numbers for that one year and then drop off and we haven't rattled tins and been as public as Richmond in the past.

An exciting list of young kids and the history of the club along with Jimmy running it pretty well so far compared to past presidents.

As for this week I think we are a great chance with our zone and run if they allow Martin to help out on Buddy and Roughhead matchups. Having him, Rivers as extra men if we can helps that a lot. Bennell to Rioli to eliminate the crumber and I like our defense better than our offense.

Last week the key was the tap outs. PJ killed the dogs around the ground but the dogs got nearly every tap out and we had to win the ball. Thing is we did win the hard ball as we wanted it more. IF Jamar is in thats huge for us with his tap work and frees up PJ to run with the ball. As always the key to our game is the quality of our insdie 50 and turnovers. We run really well but always with numbers ahead and if we turn it over its one, two Buddy/Roughead.

The Hawks better turn up coz if they think they dont' have to, to get the W we might knock them off with a better forward line of Green, Robertson, Miller, Bate.

Going to be interesting to see the final ins for the week. Bennell is a certaintly as are Frawley and Rivers. Wtih Wheels, Martin, Davey thats a lot of defenders. Disapointing to see Valenti go out as he a good tough kid and just can't crack the rotation despite doing all he can to get a spot by putting in the hard work in the VFL and dominating there.

We may be last but as shown already there isn't a lot of room for top teams to take the bottom teams for granted.

Hawthorn perspective of this weeks game? Well mine as a fan? Danger game. Dee's are playing with spirit so they will have natural intensity... Hawks MUST keep the intensity from last week if they are to win.

some fair points there chad about where the dees are headed... good to see the club moving forward... many other afl clubs have been where the dees currently are, but not all of them have gone through it well (etc north, richmond), while others have used the draft cleverly and have flourished (eg st kilda, geelong, hawthorn, carlton)...

as for the game against the hawks, i dont we are taking it lightly at all given the way the dees have been playing of late... hawks on the other hand havent really hit their straps and a fast start against melbourne would do us no harm at all and getting buddy and roughy involved early and often would be key to winning that game... hopefully a blow out in favor of the hawks is on the cards ;)

Did anyone see the Scorpians on Saturday??

They would of surely noticed the freakish and outstanding Liam Jurrah! What a great game and this kid is banging hard on the door for selection next game against the Dons after our break. Especially if he plays well next week in the VFL. Great leading forward, great mark and good kick on him. Just like a lot of the indigenous players in the league he has the bit extra speed and ball sense. I can't wait to see him make his debut for the Dees who took a risk on the young guy who had a few question marks about his attitude and its working out so far.

Both indigenous players Jurrah and Jetta who already has had a few games in the AFL under his belt this year in his rookie year kicked 4 goals each.

The Dee's lineup COULD include Jetta, Jurrah, Wheelan, Davey, Wonna and Bennel. Six indigenous players just short of the league record. That surely is a team that would be great to watch from a spectators point of view and surely a great thing for the clubs exposure to the media and fans. Its no secret the footy public loves them.

Jurrah will get a cult following in a way Farmer did but for all the right reasons and less of the wrong ones I'm thinking.

Put him alongside Watts, Butcher, etc etc and give these kids a few years in them and the Demons could rock the footy world!

A win today would give us 32,000 members too for sure! A club record in an economic gloom and doom and looking at two successive wooden spoons. Stuff those that say Dee's fans don't care about the club. About .1% of them would be the sympathy memberships from non melb people too like North got.

Lets smash those pies today and sing the song with Captain Jack in the middle of the circle covered in gatorade. What a great front page photo and exposure for the club that will be.

The Pies, HUGE membership, most bias draw in the history of the game, best facilities in the country, talked about every year blah blah blah.

And ONE premiership in the past 50 years to show for it. If not for the one off win in 1990 they would have to look past the Demons GF win OVER the Pies in 1964 ALL THE WAY back to 1958 to remember another. Great output!

Some juggernaut!

And for a club that trains at the junction oval, trains at casey and gets done by the AFL for exposure in the fixture every year nothing would please me more than to knock off the mighty magpies.

I highly doubt ANY fan of a club other than these two playing today would be upset about losing out on a pick in their footy tipping to see the Dee's carry off a win today!

GO DEMONS!

Time for an 'honourable' win ;-)

Disgrace??

I would of leant over the fence and tapped him on the shoulder too for the sake of the club no matter how much I have loved the guy over the years and his service to the club.

Truth is next year with Wonna back, Watts in, possibly Butcher if they draft him, Davey going forward and the emergence of jurruh, Robbo isn't needed.

His attitude and effort this year at times has been deplorable and really the time is up for Robbo.

That said he has given us dee's fans many many highlights over the years. Good luck to Robbo but the fact that he wont get drafted says we have made the right decision. And remember we saved his footy career as a mature age player in Tassie.

I'm more upset that Wheelen the Wrecker is finishing up, he gave 120% each week in and injury has robbed us of his best footy.

That's what was reported to the press - fair chance the between the lines is that he was tapped on the shoulder

Maybe there was, but where's the difference in that compared to Joel Bowden, Adam Simpson...any number of other veteren players from the past couple of years who have been dropped to the 2s nearly all season and put back in for farewell matches. At least we were playing him while he had form and was fit.

robbo seems like he's taken the news as well as a player possibly could under the circumstances... nobody wants their afl career to come to an end but they all know that they cant play forever. robbo has been a loyal servant and bleeds red & blue... the speech i watched on the footy show when he addressed his teammates should tell you everything about robbo that you need to know, the guy is passionate

i reckon as a player, whether you get tapped on the shoulder or whether you leave on your own terms, its a privelige to play afl and any of these guys that dont appreciate that are in fairy land... robbo genuinely appreciates the opportunity he was given i reckon

and gee it irks me when ppl in the media call him russell robinson!!!!!!
