The Demons 2009 season thread.

PJ will be lucky to keep his spot as he has been terrible this season. Spencer/Meeson might be the ruck duo.

Newts.....well we all can't stand the guy and his pathetic work ethic show so far in his career.

And Maric!!! Finally!

Put him up forward and drop Ricky P down back.

Just imagine the press if we actually beat the Tigers LOL

You bloody beauty!!!!

How was that for ya Ben!!! Being an away game I sat down behind the goals city end down the front on the boundry near the Pres Jimmy.

A TEAM effort today! Can't actually point out a passenger today. Everybody contributed and gave it a crack.

Looking at the 3Q time huddle and all the players on the ground getting attention we were always going to struggle to run it out but did enough to get over the line.

Brocky learnt today that if you get into the action and are accountable you don't have to run and chase exploiting your lack of pace.

Stef Martin was just brilliant and contested everything that went near him and often won the ball. I thought the omission of Maric was poor but Jetta showed some today more than last weeks. A few like PJ stood up on the verge of losing their spots.

Miller bugs me when he doesn't just mark and line up for goal. His mindset is just not adjusted to a forward rather than a leading CHF looking to kick to the square. Still he was the leading mark getter on the ground and led all day.

Juice coulda shoulda kicked 4 goals....

I'd be here too long listing all the positives and great play if I pointed them all out. Great win and out in front all day. Was VERY worried about how this team would play with a lead. Its been a LONG while since we have been in that position and Bailey had to call the matchups accordingly.

Green will be out for a fair while by the looks of it but we can't rely on Greeny forever despite him being a trooper for the club. Some good ins to come in the next month with Robbo, Wonna, Maric, Garland, Grimes, Wheats, Buckley?, Valenti??

And the Messiah plays in the VFL firsts next week as well.

Ahhh what a pleasure it was to see so much Red and Blue in the stands today and here and see the passion that is often joked about.

Damn West Coast are playing too well to cost us a better ladder position but its nice to not be on the bottom :-D

Well I haven't been around much lately Chad, so sorry for not replying to the above! Was a great win :)

Just wanted to report, in case you haven't seen the news, Sam Blease's injury...apparently he was playing footy at lunchtime at school and ended up in a bit of a wrestle where a mate fell accross his leg = Broken Leg. I'm not sure which break, but by what I read (which wasn't much) it sound slike it could have been a Nathan Brown leg...he's not having surgery until this thursday because of the swelling and they have had to re-align it in the meantime. Great work young kid...way to kick off your career!

Yeah but what are we going to do? Wrap him up in cotton wool? Just plain unlucky and if anything his mate should feel the guilt.

As for the current team last Sunday wasn't good enough. People seem to think because we got within 100pts of the cats we played out of our skins. In fact the pressure was only a % of what we have been doing for most of the year. IF we had of kicked the easy goals we should of especially early we would of led. Not sure if an earlier closer game might not of resulted in wakening Cats and bigger loss though as they were flat.

FINALLY we see Martin up forward. He has been training with them and he provides a strong pair of hands and applies great defensive pressure when the ball threatens to rebound outside our forward 50M. Two goal assists as well.

Petterd is only a forward when the matchups say he can.

Maric had an absolute nightmare! He looked like a mouse in a cat show. Play him this week and give him another shot especially in the wide open spaces of Subi.

In a few weeks time we will have some selection issues to deal with. A few pushing for selection like Wonna, Wheats, Wheels, Valenti etc

Valenti should of been named for the cats game. As usual he tears up the VFL and we could of done with another over/under player against the cats. He is too slow for Subi though imo.

Will be interesting to see the ins and outs this week.

Yeah not his fault...but still not a great way to start his career! Bugger.

I missed the Cats game :( Was so annoyed about a family thing that popped up suddenly that I couldn't avoid

And the turning point was losing two KEY defenders from who's direct opponent was the difference. And you get up by 8pts at home....

If the tables were turned I'd be asking Q's of my own team and be rather dirty if you ask me.

How bout Maric huh Ben....MUCH better! Bennell is getting better and better every year and PJ has his first breakout game when we need it as a team with only one ruckman after doing little all year so far. But WHY is his the guy that kicks into 50 just about th emost when his disposal is so poor? Dumb luck or poor set up.

We get to play at the MCG next week on a SATURDAY! WOW how rare is that! Not relegated to a sunday afternoon.

Could be some interesting ins this week. Take a few chances and name the likes of Macnamara down back and Cheeney back in for eg. Spencer might push for a spot.

Losing Wonna again really hurts but in the long run it clears up room for Jetta and co to get games and improve but also gain us picks 1, 3 and 4.

Maric was great! He didn't show much last year I thought, but then he was a school kid  Looking forward to a Saturday for a change, despite being buggered from being out bush for work all week :D

Heading out the door myself to the game. Footy on a saturday, what a strange feeling.

Jimmy sms'd all members telling them to get along so we can get more Sat games so I hope they turn out. The weather is a bit threatening though and might turn away a fair few of the softer set.

Yeah got that SMS...save your money dees! Sheesh!

hhmmmmm i reckon us hawks are gonna have some demons for dinner on sunday... hopefully the real hawthorn begins to turn up from here on out and start to seriously turn things around

dees young fellas are very impressive though... with watts to play later in the year and if they can pick up 2 or 3 good young guys next yr in the last uncomprimised draft, the team might turn the corner quicker than some other teams eg richmond, freo

id be excited for the future if i was a dees supporter

I thought, unless Melbourne win less than 4 games this year, the Gold Coast get #1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10 and 12 in the coming draft?

i thought that was next year ben? maybe im mistaken... im pretty sure i heard garry lyon talking about this on weekend radio

can anyone confirm this for us?

either way even if theyre not the top pick or 2, there is plenty of talent on the board even up to pick 20-25... geelong picked up selwood at 7, hawks cyril at 12 i think and there are plenty of other good examples

Ah! Right you are Branko :)

Yup I don't mind the losses as unlinke Carlton we actually try. But a win every now and then especially when we deserve it so much like we did on saturday hurts.

3-4 top picks in this draft will certainly put us in the top 4 in the coming years and with 31,000 members already when we will prob finish last for the second time in two years its promising for the club.

We have more members than the Doggies, swans, north, Brisbane, port and even the saints!

Hope to have Bennell back this week after a weeks rest. Will be some selection problems this week with possibly Frawley, Rivers, Jamar, Bennell and even Green all putting their hands up. To go along with some other kids like Mcnamara, jetta etc etc.

And how good was Wheels in his first game back. Anyone that wants to know what AFL footy is all about should watch how this guy goes about it. THAT is leadership and toughness, the sort of thing Nick Maxwell gets confused about how to do.

wow 31,000 members... really? i didnt realise they had so many... that fantastic
i also didnt realise the saints didnt have as many as the dees

btw nick maxwell is garbage... prob the worst captain in the league... he's not even in his side's best 10 players

dees have looked quite competitive so far this yr, im liking the look of them
