The Australian cricket non-official thread!

If Cummins is fit, I'd pick him ahead of anyone. I don't care if he hasn't got SS behind him...a X-Factor, match winner any day of the week. If fully fit, first picked ahead of Starc and Hazlewood in my books.

Coming back from an extensive run of injuries I think it would be a bad idea to throw him straight back in to full time cricket for Australia. He'll most likely pick up another injury very quickly.

DAY NIGHT ASHES TEST FOR NEXT SEASON CONFIRMED!!!! HERE IN ADELAIDE WOOHOO!!!! :woot:
....and I don't suppose you'd have ANY interest in going? :-)

Well done to the ECB for agreeing. You could see how they might have dug their heels in, if so inclined. Is it me, or has the Test series against Pakistan snuck up really quickly?!

Matt Renshaw just said in a press conference that Steve Smith said himself that he 'smashed' the nick through to the keeper when he was on 97... Captain Cheeky!!!! :p

Was lucky enough to work in the players tunnel. Good chats to Nathan Lyon & Matt Renshaw. Lovely blokes, Lyon is very funny, refuses to face Starc in the nets, just looked at me when I asked and said, 'do you think I am a stupid?'

Matt Renshaw is a big kid, give a couple of more years to fill out and we have a Matt Hayden clone. With that height and reach he handled the short ball well. Lyon coined him 'turtle' which I assumed was because of his slower scoring rate but it is actually because he only pokes his head out of his shell to chirp when Warner & Smith leave the room!! Gives everyone cheek aside from those two!!

Gees Handscombe looked good again, quietly optimistic about out stocks at present, couple of really well regarded kids coming through the Bulls 2nd 11 store sent also

Cool experience!

I can't see Nic Maddinson playing on Boxing Day.

Bravo to Handscomb.

Shows if you're patient, play your own game and have solid technique, you make runs, a la Smith and Renshaw too.

The T20 hitters just skin it. Wade...LOL. Picked for his batting. Must do it on red tube.

How long before we see a push for all test matches in Australia to be day/night games if the crowd numbers keep increasing for these fixtures. Excluding maybe Perth due to Tv times

I don't know if the traditionalists would allow that Rob!!

I think it would be excellent for the game. The most exciting time of the day when wickets are likely to fall on prime time!

I spoke for a while with fourth umpire Mick Martell yesterday, interesting to hear his thoughts on the game and players etc. Indications that the pink ball may replace the white ball in ODI fixtures in the future.

i hadnt even given a thought to pink replacing white in ODIs

i have loved players scoring at a strike rate of 10-20-30 region and really knuckling down which is much more traditional than scoring at 80-100 SR

The wear on the pink balls is so much slower than the white. Even if only in use for 25 overs the white balls look like a piece of turf but the pink ball after 80 overs was in very good shape.

Simple.

Can the ODIs. [[Contractually we can't - so play them in-between Tests]]/

Play the BBL and SS.

Spread 6-8 tests across 2nd half of Nov, Dec and Jan. Manuka is pushing for a test, Hobart always want one.

Get England, South Africa and India here for 5 tests a summer (England maybe 6?). Then rotate NZ, SL and Pakistan for 2-3 tests. The 4th summer is a mix of WI, Bangladesh, SL, Pakistan and NZ.

People will go to Tests if scheduled right. Adelaide didn't really have a lot this year. But put it in holiday season and I bet they get 30,000 days 1 and 2.

What do you mean we 'didn't really have a lot this year'...

Day 1: 32,255 - this was the highest ever attendance for a single day against South Africa at Adelaide Oval.

Day 2: 37,932 - The highest ever day 2 attendance at Adelaide Oval, eclipsing the 25,100 in 1932 on the day Don Bradman commenced his innings of 299*.

Day 3: 35,897 - The highest day 3 attendance at Adelaide Oval outside of an ashes series, and the third highest day 3 attendance of all time at Adelaide Oval.

Day 4: 19,909 - day 4 never sells as many tickets as the first 3 days.

So not only did we get 30,000+ on days 1,2 and 3, but we also overall set the new record for the highest ever test match attendance outside of an ashes series at Adelaide Oval, 125,993.

Really? Bloody hell. Didn't look it on TV. Everyone hiding out the back at the convenience tents? LOL.

I take it back then. But that said, I thought there were more for NZ. Turns out there 123,736 across 3 days.

So sorry, next time I'll double check the crowds. But I watched the whole test and didn't think there were as many or more than last year.

If the NZ game went to a 4th day then it definitely would have been a bigger overall crowd than the South Africa one.
