The Australian cricket non-official thread!

Thought to myself last night how bad did the poms want to embarrass us. Declare 0/0 and send aussies in again, maybe if they wernt trying to secure the lil urn and the series was over....

He's was not alone last night, but was it Shaun Marsh's last Test?

Last night was his 7th duck in 26 Test innings.

He was impressive at times last summer, but he's 32, been playing first class cricket for 15 years now and doesn't average 40.

I don't know why Australia has gone to the well so many times with him, but surely no more.

A few heads are likely to roll after this misadventure. It will be interesting to see if the Aussies can deep dig and take the 2nd innings deep into day 4 and salvage some pride. It's almost as if they've forgotten how to apply themselves.

As Stuart Broad said at the first change interview, the key to batting on this pitch was to leave a lot of balls rather than play at them. I don't think I heard the commentators say "well left" even once :D

Aussies are going too hard at the ball with minimal footwork, but then again, the way Broad was moving the ball it would make anyone look like a novice. Some quality bowling there by Broad at his home ground.

It's been received well by the Australian press. I'd like to see half of them attempt to do better.

Xavier Doherty has joined Melbourne Renegades, I reckon that's big as I'm a massive Doherty fan.

I bleed Australian Cricket, and I will back them through anything but that declaration from the Poms is a real slap in the face... A stroke of awesome gamesmanship...A real commanding moment in English cricket, mark it down as one of the strongest statements said by an English team for many years.... Many will believe the Poms declared because they wanted a few overs before lunch but I say Cook was really saying
"you Aussies aren't good enough to bowl us out!!"

Test cricket is alive and well, it's cricket in its purist format, it's a battle over 5 days, with twists and turns and lots of strategy to come out on top. The brave win, they fight harder and win as a team.. It's no bash n smash and how many sixes can I hit... Or how much money can I make... It's what cricket should be, it's what we should teach our children in life, give it your best, when the chips are down fight harder. Train harder, worry about your weaknesses, not your oppositions and most importantly, respect your opposition but show them no mercy!

End of rant !! Lol

I'm a bit worried at the moment, but maybe we can salvage a draw (if we bat for the next two days)

Watching Wood bowl, and now hearing Lloyd's comments on the difficulty of the umpire seeing the bowlers' feet, why the hell is the calling of a front foot no ball hell still done by the umpire? How has this job not been automated?

Went to bed at 0/100 thinking things are starting to turn around.

England grassed two chances, where as previously they took anything and everything. Wake up to 7 for 200 odd.

Australian batting is simply not up to it at the moment. Even Steve Smith, who up until just recently was the best in the world is having a tough time of it. The worst part - the only one has consistently stood up and can hold his head high is Chris Rogers - and he is retiring at the end of the series!

England will win the Ashes back today, leaving one test for us to try and get some pride back and the head to Bangledesh for another big test of character. Hopefully it's not another meek surrender.

I think I heard this morning that Chris Rogers has passed 50 in ten of his last 14 Test innings - not bad for an old bloke :-)

I am pleased to see Adam Voges hanging in there, hopefully he will post a good score this evening.

Spare a thought for Michael Clarke, who will have played in four successive away Ashes series defeats (2005, 2009, 2013, 2015) by the end of this series and will end his career having never won a series in England. Of the seven Ashes series that he has played in, he will be a winner in only two of them.

It is worth remembering that from 1989-2003 Australia were unbeaten across eight Ashes series. English cricket has a much harder edge to it these days.

Test cricket is all about grit and some of the shots have shown anything but.

Sometimes you have to just hang in there even if it is ugly. Both Smith & Clarke (both innings) getting out to wide ones is hard to watch
