I'm playing terrible online ball at the moment. My 'D' is very average & my shooting is way off.

On 'D' I can defend the outside shot really weel but in the paint I suck. My opponents can kill me in the paint & I can't do a damn thing about it. Same with fast break to. I can't stop it.

Anyone got any ideas how I can improve all of these areas or any of you really good guys happy to give me some pointers online? (Headset would be good to talk to me through it). ITS COOL IF YA DON'T WANT TO. I don't play for sheep stations, so i don't care if I win or not. However I am getting frustrated with my shots not dropping & getting beaten by 10+ points a game.

I go through stages of it Wiz... I find it goes with my confidence!! I had that mass bad run in season 2 then all of a sudden I went of and went in to training mod and just shot around with my players and found their range again and just went rom there. D, well, that seems to be an up and down weak spot for me too! Sometimes I dont have any trouble keeping people to under 80 points, other times i get blown out! I swithch between man on man, 2-3 and 3-2 zones and full court man to try and freshen things up and sometimes play off ball D with the guy seconded closest to the play!

Defense just has to be reactional. There is no one way to play it.

When you play guys who like to drive from the perimeter, play pressure D because it sticks on them. If not that then try a zone and test whether they can hit the jumper or not.

The hardest players to defend are gamers who are not afraid to pull up when the defender is on them. Often players in the game can make shots even when defenders are on them, as long as there is no hand in there face. Those are the hardest to defend.

Maybe some advice for the draft, try and get a good shot-blocker. Both seasons I've had Sam Dalembert, who has ranked #1 overall in shot-blocking both seasons so far. That helps a lot, keeps guys out of the lane etc.

Cheers for the advice guys. Maybe it's just a run of bad form. My shooting comes & goes but my 'D' needs work. I rely on my shooting to save my poor 'D'. So i'll focus on defending better. See if I can turn things around.

How's the OCT S1 finals looking guys? Who's gonna win it? :o)

I've found in aus nz league i can't hit shots either and i've figured it out. The guys your playing dont defend they let the game defend and they defend off the ball! Check it out next time you're playing Wiz and check who they are defending when you have the ball.
I've punished a few guys for doing this by attacking near the guy they are defending with because they almost always try to move in and help guard against you then just pass one to the free man ;)

True off-ball defenders are pretty annoying. I try to defend on-ball majority of the time unless there is a guy I need to stop e.g. Dalembert defending Dwight before he catches the ball to try and get good position.

Yeah i mostly play the ball holder unless like you said there's a need to guard off ball. It gets annoying trying to play against off ball guys but once you figure them out the points can pour in. I've got some nasty 3 point shooters in this league too so they'll pay if they keep it going all game.
Im only just figuring out now what D to use against teams too i'd usually just stick to man to man but im venturing into trying new things to see how if affects the game.

Majority of guys don't want to risk getting beaten by the point guard. Something I don't care about because I have a good shot-blocker at the ring.

Even in season 1 I'd always guard the point guard, even when guys like you (with Westbrook) would throw all kinds of crossovers and spin moves and get to the rim for a jam!

Yeah i hate off the ball defenders...only time i switch is to try cut off passes otherwise 95% off the time im defending the ball handler

I'm an off ball guy, so looks like I'm the hated! I do take the ball handler at times, and I don't actively avoid defending the ball, I just have the habit of being the center on D cause of all my time playing My Player as a big. But if guys take at me with their Center or run plays for him or put a perimeter C on the court, I'm still defending him out there, not sagging to the hoop. Ah well, guess I'll just be hated!

:lol: my post wasn't directed at you in anyway Ben. In the Aus NZ league it almost becomes cheesing defensively i don't know but its different to the way you play they almost actively look to not defend at all! Its hard to explain, i don't have an issue with the way you play ;)

I defend the ball most of the time but when Im struggling I switch to off the ball D but normally just play the next guy closest to the play. Im finding the guys that play off ball D and constantly try and double team, im just smashing with the open guy... Just a pity I try to force stuff so much when Im struggling otherwise my record would be so much better!

I used to do it but I've learnt my lesson from S2 about defending off the ball. It just always leave a guy wide open & it kills ya in the long run. My opponents would always have a really good shooting percentage cause of it. I only use it now if i'm playing a guy that pounding the paint. I still don't do a very good job but most of that is cause I don't have a good low defender.

Funny thing about off ball defence is ive never thought or never played it until nba 2k9, back on live series from like 2000 up i always played man and never even thought of off ball defence. But yeah ive tried it dint like it mainly because i didnt feel involved and felt like the cpu was playing and not me so i saty man on.

Welcome back!

Got two more games done today from the Eastern Conference Finals. Games were split 1-1. Game 3 saw me murdered on Fastbreak points. Lost the game by 19, lost fastbreak points by 22 :( Nelson 1 point and 1 turnover off a triple double :)

Yeah you stopped my fast break game in 2 i only scored 10 points off it compared to my wins where i had 21 and 31...drawing Howard out off the paint with Wallace is working well for me aswell. Rondo was 3 steals off a triple double aswell :razz: Liking this tussle so far, good series!
