That’s not how a civil suit works in America . That’s a Thailand civil suit lol. Where you can buy your way out of a jail sentence.A civil suit is something that a victim takes out independently of court procedings ala OJ Simpson to the family’s of the 2 people he (allegedly murdered) . Which he never payed either .
He has admitted what he did, apologised , had treatment and counseling , lost money in the hundreds of thousands and embarrassed himself and family. I reckon he’s lost a fair bit considering what he did ?I think the question everyone has forgotten is where was the duty of care from the Wests Tigers when this young bloke was clearly going through some tough times mentally?
I am well aware of the difference between a criminal and civil proceeding however I think you will find that unofficially the proposal of settling the civil suit to that amount contributed significantly to the downgrading of the criminal charges and avoiding of jail. It doesn’t matter if it is Thailand or USA or Australia, this happens all the time, some places are just more overt.
Yes he has progressed with counseling and rehab, good for him, it is to be commended. Has he apologized properly, no. A written apology through his lawyer saying he was immature. Has he taken full accountability? No, he claimed he had no recollection and blacked out but then disagrees with the facts presented to the court.

All is needed is proper accountability and it is not just Lodge, every player when caught doing something illegal hides behind something. The bigger issue for Lodge apart from what I have stated above is the abhorrent nature of the offending and high level criminality. Unlawfully entering someones dwelling and then assaulting them, threatening to kill them etc is a very serious crime. The law has always protected the home of the individual by punishing those who unlawfully enter them properly but not in this case.
Ferguson cited mental health issues when convicted of sexual assault, the Titans players who plead guilty all had various excuses, James Roberts has every excuse under the sun and the list goes on, Papalii blamed a fight with his partner, Barba, he would just change clubs when things got tough.
The only players I can see who seem genuinely remorseful are Wicks and Packer who actually did their time, reflected on their issues and have come out as role models.
I would like to know what he is doing to try and pay the $1.6m compensation.
Keep hearing he is a poor footballer on on $80k, that's bullshit as the minimum contract is $100k. How much truth to the rumour the Knights offered $400k a season. If he has any intention of meeting his obligations why would take a substantially lower contract.
