Official 2012-13 Offseason thread - trades, rumours, etc

I was just reading about the top amnesty candidates and I think it was Scotty that was saying that Haywood was valuable to other teams cause he could be amnestied; seems he can't, only by the Mavs..

Here are the ground rules: Amnesty is a one-time opportunity, so the seven teams that used the amnesty clause in 2011 (see sidebar) have to sit and watch this time. To be eligible, the player must have been with the team continuously since day one of the current CBA. In other words, a team cannot use the amnesty clause on any player it has signed or acquired via trade under the new agreement. And once he is waived via the amnesty provision, the team cannot reacquire the player for the life of his waived contract.

Oden is back, who wants him?

Injury-riddled Greg Oden could be returning to the NBA this season. That’s the word from Oden’s agent, Mike Conley, who got a call earlier this week from Oden. He said his client has changed his tune from wanting to take this season off. “(Oden) called me, and he was kind of excited,’’ Conley said in a phone interview with FOX Sports Florida. “I think he’s motivated …. He wants to play. He had said he wanted to take this season off, but he’s backed off from that …. He’s open to playing this season. I think he will play this season.’’ FOXSports Florida

^ bit more on the Amnesty...

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q67

For a player to be eligible for the Amnesty provision he must be on his team's roster continuously from July 1, 2011 to the date he is amnestied, without any new contract, extension, renegotiation or other amendment to his contract in the meantime. Players who were waived prior to July 1, 2011 and are still receiving guaranteed salary are also eligible. Teams cannot amnesty players they sign, receive in trade, extend, renegotiate, or otherwise amend after July 1, 2011.

And it's official, B-Wood is gone via Amnesty.

http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/mave...avs-officially-use-amnesty-on-brendan-haywood
ESPN.com's Marc Stein reports that the Dallas Mavericks have made it official: Brendan Haywood will be waived courtesy of the amnesty clause.

Haywood's $8.3 million salary this season and $27.2 million overall will be wiped off the books, however he will still be owed the full amount left on the next three years of his contract. Haywood will now enter the amnesty bidding process. Teams under the cap will have first shot to bid for him. The team with the winning bid will pay that amount of Haywood's annual salary with the Mavs responsible for the balance.

If there are no bids, Haywood will become a free agent and can sign with any team. In that case, Dallas would be on the hook for the full amount -- but again, with no consequence to the salary cap or luxury tax -- to be paid over a number of years courtesy of a "stretch provision" in Haywood's contract.

and Plan B on Elton Brand...
Tim MacMahon‏@espn_macmahon
Source says if Mavs don't get Elton Brand, they'll go after Luis Scola via amnesty waivers process.
